Chapter 214
Chapter 214: Saying goodbye to past feelings
"I still have a lot of unfinished business."
Mariana came to her senses, sat upright and looked at the driver in front of her. She smiled and said:
-Thank you. You're right, I have to say goodbye to past feelings!
-That's right!
Diana looked at the cold, stern man sitting next to her. He had complicated feelings, pursed his lips, smiled and said softly:
-Leo, what's wrong?
In fact, his words were a deliberate attempt to test him.
Leopoldo, who had been looking out the window, turned his head and looked at Diana. Her pupils were very dark, as if they were one with the night outside. His look made Diana nervous. She couldn't help but clench her fists tightly before slowly calming down.
He leaned lightly on Leopoldo and said softly:
-Leo, what's wrong with you? Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?
She touched her cheek and looked puzzled.
Leopold was still looking intently at her with a thoughtful gaze.
The atmosphere inside the car froze for a moment, causing Diana's smile to fade.
Although they stared at each other, they seemed very strange and distant from each other.
Suddenly, the phone rang and the music broke the unbearable silence. Leopoldo turned his head, pulled out his cell phone and answered the call.
Diana sat up when she saw Leopoldo's movement. She leaned back in her chair and moved a little away from him.
-Have you looked into it?
Leopoldo looked cold and strange at the time.
Lionel's gruff voice came immediately from the other end of the phone.
-I looked into it. As you expected, there's something wrong with Hugo.
It turned out that when Leopoldo arrived, he had already seen Hugo's burning gaze towards Mariana. At that moment he frowned and felt it was strange, so he asked Lionel to look into it. He didn't expect that there really was something wrong with him.
-I focused on investigating Hugo and discovered that the email that had been sent anonymously to all Elamorad employees was sent from one of his spare mailboxes. Previously, we had not discovered this because we were confused by the email registration information. But when I focused on Hugo, everything became very clear.
At this point, however, Lionel frowned. He felt so much pressure that he could barely speak.
-Sir, I still discovered one thing while I was investigating Hugo. There are two private folders in that email backup. I got someone to decrypt them. One of them is a detailed account of what happened between him and Elisa. It's also Elisa who asked Hugo to do it. Also...
Lionel paused, however, his voice a little shaky.
-What else?
Leopold's icy words made Lionel shudder violently. Finally, he said earnestly:
-The other folder is full of photos about the Lady.
Lionel gripped the phone tightly as he finished speaking, and his forehead began to sweat uncontrollably.
Diana, who was sitting next to him, also noticed Leopoldo's drastic change in mood. She felt the air pressure inside the car drop to a minimum in an instant, making her uncomfortable even breathing. She looked at Leopoldo and froze.
He looked so cold and somber that he seemed to be one with the boundless darkness. Diana had never seen him like this.
She narrowed her eyes slightly in confusion.
Moreover, in his coldness there was still great anger, which made him look like a demon out of hell.
-I don't want to see this man again. Take care of this.
After saying this, he hung up the phone.
Diana pursed her lips and finally said softly:
-Leo, let's go home.
He did not ask her about the call she had just made. He had a premonition that, if he asked, something would definitely change, and that change was something he couldn't face. Hearing her words, Leopoldo turned his head, looked at Diana and agreed.
The next day, as soon as she arrived at the company, Mariana realized that the company's atmosphere was not the same as usual. She frowned.
At that moment, Nuria saw Mariana. She approached her and said in a low voice:
-This morning, Mr. Castro received a resignation email from Hugo. And, coincidentally, everyone in the company received an email describing in detail how Elisa and Hugo set you up.
Hearing this, Mariana was stunned. She was still surprised by Hugo's sudden resignation, but she hadn't expected the subject to be related to her.
-What do you mean?
-That anonymous mail that slanders your character and morals is sent by Hugo, but the content is compiled by Elisa.
Mariana stiffened.
I did not expect Elisa to be able to continue meddling in the company's internal affairs even after she was fired.
"It seems that this issue is no longer just about Hugo. It is possible that the upper echelons of the company are going to look into the various relationships between employees, and even make large-scale personnel changes."
"After all, no one wants to risk having their company manipulated by others all the time."
Mariana pulled Nuria's hand and said softly:
-It's okay. We just need to do our job.
Nuria nodded her head. She thought the same.
After the two chatted for a while longer, Mariana entered the office. She had just sat down when she received a call from Leopoldo's assistant.
He felt his heart start to beat faster again. He had complicated feelings.
Mariana calmed down and picked up the phone.
Immediately, he heard the assistant's deep voice.
-Ma'am, the matters that Mr. Durán promised you last time have been resolved. Are you satisfied with the result?
Mariana pursed her lips, thought of Leopoldo's cold, stern eyes and couldn't help but feel a little nervous.
-What about Hugo Rios? He...
He felt his throat was dry and didn't know how to say it.
