Chapter 141: Lost in your eyes
I get lost in your eyes and I feel my spirits rise. And soar like the wind is it love that I am in? I get weak in a glance. Isn't this what's called romance? And now I know 'cause when I'm lost I can't let go. I just fell, don't know why. Something's there we can't deny and
when I first knew was when I first looked at you~~~
-Debbie Gibson-
I was checking the latest sales on the computer at the counter when I heard Dana's voice behind me or should I say Dana's song behind me.
"I don't mind not knowing what I'm heading for... you can take me to the skies... It's like being lost in heaven... when I'm lost in your eyes..."
Furrowing my eyebrows, I turned in her direction as she sang the chorus of the song that's playing softly inside the coffee shop. Well, honestly, it made me frown not because of the song but the way she sang it. She emphasized every word especially the last line. "What? Am I not a good singer?" She asked, trying to hide the mischievous grin on her lips.
"Tss!" I rolled my eyes. "Such a clever question, huh! I wasn't born yesterday!"
But she just laughed at me. "Oh, of course, you aren't, but I saw you and you can't deny it." she winked at me.
"And what is it? What do you mean?"
And with the widest grin she could ever give me, she walked closer to me and glanced in Luke's direction who's currently having a meeting with his employees. He was sitting in the same spot he sat in the last time.
"I saw you staring at him. I saw the way you stared at him... so viscous---ouch!"
She didn't have the chance to continue what she was saying as I nudged her side with my elbow.
"That's not true!" I said narrowing my eyes on her and turning my attention back to the computer screen to hide my face from embarrassment.
"Haha... it's alright, I understand." She shrugged. "Oh, it's like being lost in heaven, when I'm lost in your eyes..." She sang again and was about to go back to the kitchen but I grabbed her hand and made her sit next to the chair I was sitting on. "Stay here for a while, I have something to tell you." I started with a sigh, but her eyes suddenly lit up with excitement.
"Yeah, sure, you can tell me anything and everything, I'm all ears, my friend!" She even clapped her hands.
"Actually, you're right, I was looking at Luke when you came---"
"See? I knew it!" She interrupted me.
"Wait, let me finish! I said, I was just looking and not staring!"
"But it's just the same!'
"No, it's not because I wasn't looking at him for a long time. It was just a quick glance that's just it!"
"Hmm?"
"Haist! It's up to you whether you want to believe it or not, but here's the thing." I straightened my sit. "Actually, it wasn't him I was staring at earlier but his secretary."
She frowned.
"His secretary? Why, what about her?" She repeated and her eyes immediately looked for the secretary I was referring to.
"She's weird, I mean, it's not the first time I've noticed the way she looked at him---"
"Wait---him? You mean Luke?"
"Well, yeah, but this is not about him."
"Uhuh...okay..." She said nodding and based on the smile she's giving me, I know there's something in there. But since I don't want to prolong the conversation, I decided to ignore her. "As I was saying, this is not the first time I've noticed the way she looks at him. There is a certain affection in her voice and her eyes sparkle every time she looks at him... and..." "And...?"
"And I shouldn't have minded about it, the problem is that I don't like the way she looks at me like she's going to eat me alive, duh! Do you get what I mean?" But the only response I got from her was a chuckle and she just stopped when I playfully glared at her.
"Fine," she shrugged. "Well, I know you knew based on your observation that she likes him--- in which I don't blame her as you once became like her in the past." "Dana!" I whispered yelled but she seemed not affected.
"That secretary likes your ex-husband and she's jealous of you because her boss is giving you more attention than her. In other words, he ignores her because of you." "Okay... but I have nothing to do with it and of course, he would give me that kind of attention not just because I'm his ex-wife but I'm also the mother of his kid."
"Uhuh, you don't get my point. No one knows you're his ex-wife except me and Caleb, darling, and what more if she finds out the truth."
I was just about to open my mouth when I suddenly felt her grip on my skirt under the counter. Even though there was a frown painted on my forehead, I still followed her gaze only to find the man who was just the topic of our conversation approaching our direction. "Oh, I remember I have something left in the kitchen. I'll go check it out." I heard Dana announce next to me and it's too late for me to grab her hand and make her stay as she hurriedly ran towards the kitchen.
So I was left alone at the counter and had no choice but to wait for the man who was walking gracefully (take note, gracefully) towards the counter.
"Hi,"
My toes curled inside my shoes when he flashed me a handsome smile. I held my breath for a while before deciding to reciprocate his smile. "Hi, is there anything you need, Mr. Williams?"
Upon mentioning his last name, he chuckled which made my traitorous insides turn upside down.
"Do you really have to call me by my last name?"
"I can't see anything wrong with that." I shrugged, pretending to scan the sales on the computer. You know, just to avoid his gaze.
"Sam, just please call me Luke. I find it so awkward when you call me Mr. Williams when we're friends... and we are now friends, aren't we?" "A-Ahh... y-yeah," I smiled, though I stuttered. "Anyway, where is your daughter---" "Luke..."
But I was interrupted when his 'lovely' secretary came into our view.
"Lucy..."
He turned to her and immediately flashed her a smile.
-'Tss! First name basis? I thought she is just a secretary?'- the left side of my brain screamed, but I tried so hard not to scream it in front of them.
They talked for a while and I turned around pretending to be busy. I don't want to see how she flirts with him and even more, I don't want to see how he responds.
"Sam..." I heard Luke call my name and I prepared my fake smile before turning around again.
"Yes, do you want to order now?" I asked but my eyes were focused only on Luke.
But before Luke could answer my question, his secretary took a step forward and brought her hand in front of me.
"So you are Sam... hi, I'm Lucy, Luke's secretary." She smiled and it took me a few seconds whether to take her hand or not.
I glanced at the man next to her and finally decided to take it.
"Hi," is the only word I mentioned. Nobody knows how much I've tried not to raise an eyebrow as I know it might offend the not-so-pretty girl in front of me. -'She didn't even wait to be introduced, jeez!'-
"I really don't get why my boss always suggested setting our meetings here, I mean, no offense, girl, but I can't see anything special in this place. For me, this is just an ordinary coffee shop and nothing else." "Lucy!" Luke grabbed her elbow, but I shook my head, motioning him to just let her talk and do whatever she wants.
On the back of my head, I also don't understand how he got such a kind of employee and why he's just tolerating the way she addresses him.
"Your menu is out of date and apart from being very common, there's nothing special about your drinks. They're just like in other coffee shops out there." She even flipped her imaginary long hair much to my disgust. -'I think this woman wants to bring out the lioness inside me!'- I smirked and made sure she saw it.
