Chapter 197
A few moments later, Yan returned with two plates of food and passed one of them to Shen Qi. “Here. Seeing how you exerted yourself last night, I’ve given you a bigger portion.” Yan was so delighted with herself. “How is that? Don’t you think I love you dearly?”
“You…” Shen Qi glanced at the extra chicken breast in her bowl with a sense of defeat.
“Have you thought about what you’re going to say? Tell me what’s going on with this whole ruckus.”
Shen Qi understood Yan’s concern for her; however, the matter at hand was just too complicated, and it was hard to relay everything on the spot. “It’s too crowded here, and it’s not the best place to talk about this,” Shen Qi said after giving it some thought. “If some conniving person caught wind of this, things will be…”
Yan seemingly realized something as well, and she nodded in agreement. “True, people are going to swarm you if they know about your identity. Forget it, and just tell me about it another time.”
“Thank you, Yan.”
Yan smiled and waved it off. “You don’t have to because we’re friends.”
“Oh, speaking of that, I think you should keep your distance from Han Xueyou. Did you hear what she told the dude from Zhao Group last night? I’d be inclined to remind you despite the fact that you two are besties, that friend of yours isn’t a goody two shoes. You better be wary of her.”
Shen Qi frowned with discontent upon hearing Yan bad-mouthing Han Xueyou again. “Yan, do you understand that talking behind people’s backs is a vice?”
“I know, but I can’t help myself. I hate the sight of her. The feeling did not vanish after meeting her. Instead, it intensified. Qi, do you know that my instincts are always spot on? Just be careful around Xueyou.”
Shen Qi rose from her seat as she couldn’t stand it any longer. Despite her surprise, Yan quickly held on to Shen Qi. “Okay, I’ll stop. Sigh, I’m just looking out for you, all right? She worked her *ss off last night for the first place, and I was the one who realized you were missing. If it wasn’t for me… Hmph!” Yan said as she chewed on a piece of rib angrily.
“I know you were the one who helped me, and I am very grateful to you. Let me treat you to a meal after my next paycheck comes in.”
“It’s a deal then.”
Both of them finished their meals and left after reaching an agreement.
Shen Qi arrived at her department only to find Ye Linhan’s assistant, Ye Zi, waiting by her desk. As Ye Linhan favored Ye Zi, plenty of people in the department were dead set on getting on her good side. There was a crowd surrounding Ye Zi when Shen Qi entered the room.
“How is Vice President Ye outside of work? He seems like a gentle person. Does he have a girlfriend?”
“Miss Ye, what types of women is Vice President Ye into? He—”
Ye Zi was extremely annoyed by the people around her, but she couldn’t blow up.There you are.”
Shen Qi did not move, giving Ye Zi a perplexed look.
“You have been transferred, so I am here to fetch you under Vice President Ye’s order.”
Shen Qi remained silent. Was it necessary to announce it to the public? The number of her foes had increased yet again because of that. However, everybody had already caught wind of her transfer anyway. Foes would be foes after all. “I’m good here. There’s no need to go over,” she pursed her lips and replied coldly.
Ye Zi walked toward Shen Qi and stopped right in front of her. “No can do, Miss Shen. This is a transfer, not a query. You will have ten minutes to pack up your things.”
Was that a threat?
“Hey, Shen. Since Vice President Ye has decided to transfer you, why are you being so difficult? Do you want Vice President Ye to personally come and fetch you?”
“Yeah. There’s a limit to it even if you want to act like this, okay? It’s already a blessing that Vice President Ye has allowed you to transfer. How dare you be ungrateful?”
They scrutinized Shen Qi as if she was a monster. They spewed words of disdain as if Shen Qi was being unscrupulous, and she would be the villain if she were to turn down the offer.
Shen Qi smirked at the thought of that. “You can take my place if you desire it so much. Am I right, Assistant Ye?” With that, she sat down at her desk to turn the computer on and showed no intentions of wanting to pack up her stuff.
“Assistant Ye, since Shen Qi is being very unappreciative, why don’t you suggest Vice President Ye to transfer us instead?”
Ye Zi glanced at Shen Qi helplessly. Ye Zi had been Ye Linhan’s assistant for a long time, so how could she not see through his thoughts and expressions? He told her to fetch Shen Qi in person, so she knew she had to tread even more carefully when it came to Shen Qi. For now, Shen Qi had no intentions to follow her at all, and Ye Zi dared not reproach her in any way. In the end, Ye Zi dispersed the crowd before she approached Shen Qi and bent down to whisper in her ear. “Milady, I came to get you in person. Why don’t you save my face, pack up, and leave with me?”
Shen Qi looked into Ye Zi’s eyes without a smile on her face. “Assistant Ye, please inform Vice President Ye to not make it difficult for me. I am doing great here. If he truly cares about me, just leave me be.”
“What good is there remaining here? Vice President Ye can take you under his wing if you come over. Is that so undesirable?”
Shen Qi shook her head. “That isn’t something that I wish for, and it’s definitely not something I should be doing. Please take your leave.”
Seeing her persistence, Ye Zi relented and left.
Shen Qi enjoyed an uneventful afternoon. When it was time to knock off, she packed her stuff and was ready to board the bus back to her house. However, she saw a familiar face in front of the company entrance—it was none other than Lin Jiang. Lin Jiang was snooping around the entrance, finally laying eyes on Shen Qi. He ran toward her but was intercepted by the securities.
Shen Qi‘s face blanched and avoided him by walking in the opposite direction, yet Lin Jiang pointed at her and shouted relentlessly, “I know that woman, and I’m here for her! Shen Qi, get the f*ck over here!”
A number of people turned to observe the commotion, and Shen Qi could only walk over to him. “My apologies, he is a friend of mine. You, follow me.”
Shen Qi led him away, and Lin Jiang followed with haste, stopping only when they arrived at a vacant spot. “What do you want? Aren’t we divorced? You have been harassing me non-stop. Aren’t you disgusted with your own actions?”
As soon as Shen Qi posed the question, Lin Jiang sank to his knees in front of her with a loud thud. The over-the-top action gave Shen Qi quite the shock. “What are you doing? Get up!”
“Qi, I was wrong. Please forgive me!”
“What are you talking about? Get up!” His sudden plea for forgiveness caught her entirely off guard.
Lin Jiang did not budge, instead he grasped onto the hem of her dress. “Qi, I am a mongrel, and inhumane. For old time’s sake, please tell your man to stop coming after me.”
