Chapter 978 It's Really a Genetic Disease
Julien had to know if Sydney had inherited Brandon's kidney failure.
If so, she could be diagnosed early and might be cured. If they delayed for a long time and could not get suitable kidneys, that would be troublesome.
After all, Brandon's physique was special, and no suitable kidney for him had been found until now.
What if Sydney inherited Brandon's special physique?
Julien did not dare to gamble, so the only thing he could do was to find out early and deal with it early.
Sydney did not know what Julien was nervous and anxious about. Looking at his serious expression, she said with amusement, "Although some people may have sudden illnesses, that will certainly not happen to me. Don't forget that I am taking medicine to improve my health. Every time before the prescription, Finn would give me a simple checkup. He did not say that there was something wrong with my body, which proves I'm healthy. I won't fall ill as Clarice did. She either inherited it from Brandon or suffered a lot when she was a child, which caused aftereffects. I don't meet either of these conditions, so I'm sure I'm fine. Don't worry."
She patted Julien's tense shoulder, signaling him to relax.
But she didn't know that even though she had said that, Julien couldn't stop worrying.
She was Brandon's daughter.
Julien looked at Sydney and said, "As you said, Finn only gave you simple checkups, not full body checkups, so in case there's something wrong he couldn't find out, it's better to go for a full checkup." Sydney knitted her good-looking eyebrows. "Why do I feel as if you are certain that there is something wrong with me? Do you really think so?"
She tilted her body slightly to his side and stared intently at Julien as if to see something from his face.
Yet Julien hid it so well that his face did not show the slightest hint of strangeness.
So Sydney looked for a while but didn't find anything.
"How could I possibly assume that you have a disease?" Julien put down his glass and took her hand. "I want you to be healthy more than anyone else does. I just saw Clarice like this, so I am worried that you will be like that too. Clarice really scared me." Julien lowered his eyes, his voice calm.
He was really frightened, not by Clarice, but by Sydney's words.
If Sydney hadn't just talked about genetic diseases, Julien wouldn't have realized that she might also be genetically predisposed.
Sydney looked at Julien fixedly for a while and suddenly smiled, "You were scared? When did you become so timid? You don't look like your usual self."
"Because I'm worried about you." Julien tenderly touched her face and looked into her eyes with an expression that she couldn't understand.
Sydney was silent for a while before she said, "Is it true that you can't feel at ease until I have a full body checkup?"
She believed that his request was due to Clarice's sudden illness, which caused him to worry that the same thing would happen to her. However, for some reason, Sydney had a vague feeling that something was wrong.
She felt this was not the only reason for his request.
But she couldn't tell from Julien's face if she was right.
After all, there was only worry on Julien's face, and there was nothing strange about it.
Perhaps she overthought it, and he was just concerned about her health.
Just like she was worried about his health.
Sydney was relieved and smiled at Julien, "If so, then we'll go."
Hearing she agreed, Julien nodded and smiled, "Okay, we'll go tomorrow morning."
He could not be reassured until he knew her health condition as soon as possible. Looking at Julien's anxious face, Sydney was amused and touched.
After her parents passed away, there were few people in the world who cared about her.
The three of the Chase family, Grandma, Cayden, and Grandpa were among them.
But these six people all had their own families, lives, and things to do. It was impossible for them to pay attention to Sydney all the time, and they might not contact each other within half a month. Therefore, compared to them, Julien, who had been accompanying her, moved Sydney the most.
Thinking of this, Sydney suddenly hugged Julien's waist and curled herself into his arms.
Julien did a double take, hugged her with a smile, patted her back, and said softly, "What's wrong? Why are you suddenly pouting?"
"I'm not pouting," Sydney grunted in Julien's arms, her eyes closed but her lips curved. "I'm just thanking you."
"Thanking me?" Julien raised an eyebrow. "For what?"
"For your concern." Sydney's head rubbed against his chest. "I don't think anyone but you would think so much of me."
Julien's face turned tender. "I am your man. Of course, I should do all this for you. As you were just worried about my health, I am also worried about yours, so you don't have to thank me. Now, eat some more."
With that, Julien pushed her gently away from his arms.
This was the first time he took the initiative to end his embrace with her.
He had never let go of her so easily before, especially when she acted intimately.
So it was really surprising.
Sydney laughed, picked up her fork, and continued eating.
But Julien no longer had any appetite, holding the phone and kept tapping.
When Sydney asked him, Julien said he was replying to Zach about some business matters.
Seeing him frown seriously, Sydney did not doubt his words. She quietly ate her meal without disturbing him.
It was strange that Julien didn't talk on the phone, but maybe Zach was busy, and it was not convenient for him to speak.
Seeing Sydney's attention diverted, Julien breathed a sigh of relief and checked the information on his phone.
Just now, he was contacting Finn, asking Finn about Brandon's kidney failure, especially about Brandon's genetic diseases.
When he saw Finn's reply, Julien instantly pursed his thin lips, his heart sinking. He clenched the phone as if he wanted to crush it. He looked depressed.
Finn said Brandon's kidney failure was genetic, and the transmissibility is quite high. Almost every three generations, there is one person with genetic kidney failure. The last one was Brandon's great-grandfather.
And this was what Brandon found out when he went home to look up information after he was first diagnosed with kidney failure, and then he told Finn's hospital about it. It was indeed genetic kidney failure, not acquired.
Julien gritted his teeth and felt angry.
He had never thought that the Madden family would have this kind of genetic disease.
