Chapter 945 Am I a Product?
When Mrs. Chase asked about Sean, Sydney instantly tensed up. She had been leaning back in her chair, but now she sat up straight and replied, "Sean's fine."
"Really? That's good." Mrs. Chase went on, "I went to the hospital today for a physical checkup and I ran into her. I noticed her face was pale and she had a pile of bills in her hand. I thought she was seriously ill, so I asked her what was wrong with her. However, she told me she just didn't feel comfortable with her spine."
"You don't believe her?" Sydney bit her lower lip.
Mrs. Chase shook her head, "No. I've known Sean for years, so I know her well. When she answered me, she kept her head down. She didn't dare look me in the eye. She was obviously lying. Since she wouldn't tell me what was wrong with her, I didn't ask her. I pretended I believed her. After we talked for a moment, she left with an excuse. She left in a hurry, as if she was afraid I would stop her. I was wondering what she was afraid of me. I am not a tiger."
"Oh." After learning the story, Sydney lifted her chin and asked tentatively, "Did you ask the doctor what was wrong with Sean after she left?"
Mrs. Chase shook her head. "No. Since she didn't want to tell me, how could I ask the doctor? That's her privacy. I should respect her privacy."
"Oh." Sydney patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
'Mrs. Chase doesn't know Sean is pregnant.
'If she knew about it, she wouldn't be so calm.'
"Syd, do you know what's wrong with Sean?" Mrs. Chase suddenly asked.
Sydney's eyes flickered and she replied, somewhat sheepishly, "I know a bit."
"No wonder you were not surprised when I told you that I met Sean at the hospital. You knew that already."
"I knew a little." Sydney gave a wry smile, "She's my secretary. She needs to ask me for leave if she goes to the hospital."
"You have a point. I forgot about that." Mrs. Chase slapped her forehead and continued, "Syd, Sean won't tell me what's wrong with her, but I noticed she looked very pale, so I'm afraid she's seriously ill. She was in a hurry at the hospital. I guess she may not be able to handle it. I'm afraid she'll give up and not accept treatment. You are her boss, so you must encourage her and convince her to accept treatment." Sydney was amused at Mrs. Chase's words inside.
She hadn't expected Mrs. Chase to think that Sean was seriously ill, which was even incurable.
Sydney almost burst out laughing.
But to keep Mrs. Chase from suspecting, Sydney held back her laughter. She tucked her hair behind her ears as she replied, "Don't worry, Auntie. I'll talk to her."
"Okay. I'm done here. You have work to do, so I'll leave you to it." Mrs. Chase said as she looked at the time.
After hanging up the phone, Sydney found Sean on WhatsApp and sent her a voice message telling her what Mrs. Chase had just told her.
Sean was in the office next door at that moment. She listened to Sydney's voice messages on a bluetooth earphone. Learning that Mrs. Chase asked about her, Sean had mixed feelings in her heart and her eyes welled up with tears.
'Mrs. Chase is so kind. However, we can't be a family...'
After listening to Sydney's voice message, Sean replied with a text message: [Ms. Raines, please thank Mrs. Chase for me.]
After that, she put the phone aside, collected herself, and went on with her work.
She knew that although Mrs. Chase cared about her and it was heartwarming, she shouldn't have too many expectations. Otherwise, she would be disappointed and upset.
Reading Sean's reply that she only wanted to thank Luke's mom and nothing more, Sydney sighed and shook her head. She didn't send another message and got back to her work, too. Soon, it was time to go home.
After finishing the last paper, Sydney stretched out. Just then, there was a knock on her office door.
She thought it might be one of the assistants or secretaries, so she sat up and straightened her clothes. Then she answered, "Come in."
The knocking stopped, and the door was pushed open.
Surprisingly, it was not her assistant or secretary, but Julien.
"Done with your work?" When Julien walked in, he looked at Sydney and asked.
"Why are you here?" Seeing Julien, Sydney immediately stood up and showed a happy face.
But soon, she remembered something and the happiness disappeared from her face.
She let out a grunt, sat back in her chair, and turned her head away. She didn't look happy to see Julien.
Julien was confused. "I came to pick you up. What's wrong?"
He walked towards her, "Did I do something wrong to upset you?"
Sydney grunted again. She didn't look at him.
Julien came up to her, put his hands on her shoulders, and tried to turn her head to face him. "Look at me."
But Sydney wouldn't.
Julien sighed softly. Then he lifted her chin and turned her head around. "Tell me, what's wrong? If I did something wrong, I'll apologize to you. Okay?"
Even though he said so, he didn't think he did anything wrong.
But if Sydney thought he was wrong, he'd admit it anyway and apologize to her.
She was his girlfriend. He would do anything as long as she was happy.
Hearing Julien's words, Sydney turned to him and sneered, "Congratulations, Mr. Flint. Someone thinks highly of you and wants you to marry his daughter."
"What?" Julien froze, and immediately his face darkened. "Don't be ridiculous. How come I didn't know about it?"
He had always known that many women were interested in him and that many families wanted to get connected to him.
But he'd made it very clear years ago that he didn't want any of that, so those women were afraid to approach him. They were afraid that they would annoy Julien and that he would make trouble for them. Gradually, those people gave up trying to get close to Julien.
Therefore, when Sydney said that someone wanted Julien to marry their daughter, Julien didn't believe it.
Besides, if it was true, Julien should know about it.
"I'm not making this up." Sydney shrugged her shoulders. "Mrs. Chase told me that. She said it was the Ward family in the seafood business that had their eye on you and that they wanted their daughter to steal you away from me. Are you happy, Mr. Flint?"
Julien realized that Sydney was jealous, but she was teasing him.
She was jealous because she loved him. Julien was happy.
"Don't talk nonsense." Julien released her chin and gently scraped her nose. "Why should I be happy? Am I a product? They can have me if they want me? If they think I'll be happy to marry their daughter, they underestimate me." With that, Julien's face darkened and he gave off an intimidating aura.
