Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Frank did indeed want to ravage her. He wanted to mess her up and ruin her. However, Maria’s submissiveness, the way she allowed herself to be plundered, irritated him.
She had gone to great lengths to seduce him, all for this moment!
What was the point of showing such a lifeless expression now? Who was she displaying this look for?
Maria blushed and softly retorted, “I didn’t.”
If she had a choice, she didn’t want any contact with Frank. She wished there was nothing between them.
“Hmph! Don’t even think that if I see you seducing me again, I’ll let you off so easily!” Frank glared at her coldly, his deep voice cutting through her like an ice blade.
He abruptly stood up, leaving the bedroom without a moment’s pause.
Maria bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes but refusing to fall.
Her lips still stung, carrying the lingering scent of the man.
Maria raised her hand and wiped her mouth vigorously. She climbed out of bed and rushed into the bathroom to rinse her mouth.
After everything was settled, Maria decided to go downstairs to eat something.
Although her fever had subsided, she still felt weak, especially with her empty stomach.
Maria knew that no one would care for her if she didn’t do something herself. But the thought of encountering Frank made
her hesitate.
She would wait for him to leave before going downstairs.
About half an hour later, Maria saw Frank driving his black Maybach away from the Johnston Court through the window. Only then did she dare to go downstairs to find something to eat.
The living room downstairs was extremely quiet as she descended. There was no one in sight. As she approached the dining room, the smell of food became faintly discernible.
Maria swallowed. Her gaze fell on the dining table. There were still plenty of leftovers from a sumptuous breakfast. Her stomach couldn’t help but growl.
Paige emerged from the kitchen and was tidying everything up. She heard Maria’s stomach growl.
Maria felt awkward and said, “I’ll go make something for myself.”
“Miss Greenwood, these were Mr. Johnston’s leftovers. If you don’t mind, you can eat them. Otherwise, they’ll go to waste,” Paige kindly reminded her.
Maria couldn’t believe it. She pointed at the nearly untouched breakfast on the table with surprise. “Can I really eat those?”
“Yes, you can,” Paige replied with a smile.
Without hesitation, Maria stood at the table and picked up a piece of intact bread, putting it in her mouth to chew.
Before she could swallow, another voice chimed in, “Who allowed you to eat that?”
Maria held the bread awkwardly, looking towards the source of the voice. It was another maid dressed in a similar uniform.
Paige turned to the other maid. “Karen, these are meant to be thrown away. Let Miss Greenwood eat them. It won’t be wasteful,” Paige defended Maria.
Feeling grateful, Maria flashed her a thankful smile.
However, Karen was not convinced. She didn’t like Maria from the beginning. It was especially so after she claimed credit for the grilled steak Maria had made the day before.
She thought she would receive praise from Frank but was met with indifference, leaving her irritated. Seeing Maria now made her feel even more annoyed.
“So, what if it is wasteful? Does Johnston Court need to nitpick over these things?” Karen glared at Maria, clearly unhappy.
Maria felt that Karen had never liked her from the beginning, but she didn’t know where she had offended Karen.
Oh well, Karen was a maid of Johnston Court while she was just a temporary guest.
Maria didn’t want to get into a conflict with her and silently put down the bread. She said, “Then, I’ll make something for myself.”
She flashed a smile at Paige so the latter would not need to be caught between them and turned to head to the kitchen.
Maria heard Karen’s disdainful words as she left. “Paige, just throw these away. Why are you so good to that woman? But then, she was right to eat these. That kind of woman only deserves food fit for the trash.”
