My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

Chapter Gud Wife 753

Chapter 0753

Peter had been taken out of Valentia by Theodore, just in time to avoid being arrested. He didn't even have the chance to check if Mary was in good hands and safe-his friend and companion had stopped him, and no power on earth could convince him to go see her.

He was being taken to his home in Slovenia, carrying a storm of emotions that were burning inside him and giving him a severe headache. His clothes still carried the scent of Mary, and he hadn't had time to change.

When he arrived at the airport, Brock was already waiting for him, with orders to take him straight home. For now, he would be under the scrutiny of his driver.

Peter closed his eyes as he saw the door to his house-the one he hadn't returned to in over two months. He didn't know what awaited him and, for the moment, he didn't feel like seeing anyone.

Celeste was in her painting studio when she noticed a car parking outside. Something made her look a little longer, and she saw Peter get out of the car, with Brock carrying a suitcase and accompanying him inside the house.

For a moment, she sighed in relief, as, regardless of how she felt, she did worry about Peter. She stood there, frozen, staring out at the garden. She didn't know whether to go out to greet him as she had before or to wait for him to seek her out.

After a long moment of thinking, she decided to continue painting. But no matter how hard she tried, her mind was no longer focused on the task at hand.

On one hand, she wanted to go out and find him. That part of her wanted to hug him, kiss him, and see that he was okay. That would be enough.

But there was also the other part of her, the one that was tired. That part wasn't blind; Peter had been wonderful with her, but in recent months, he had been in and out. The last time, she had clearly heard him mention the name Mary. She didn't know who that was, though the name sounded familiar. She just couldn't place it.

Celeste spent a while sitting in one of her chairs. After a time, seeing that Peter didn't come looking for her, she took a deep breath and sighed. She stood up and went to find the man who was preventing her from keeping calm. Each step felt heavy, like walking on lead. She didn't know why she felt like she was doing something wrong, but she couldn't shake the feeling. She finally reached her bedroom, only to find a surprise: Peter wasn't there, and neither was his luggage.

Peter had asked for his things to be taken to the guest room. He didn't feel comfortable returning to his own room after everything that had happened in Valentia.

Celeste felt a void form in her chest when she saw that his luggage wasn't there. She walked to the living room, when she heard Peter's voice coming from the studio. The door was closed, and without thinking, she reached for the doorknob, about to knock, when the door suddenly opened, and Brock stepped out. "Miss Celeste..." the man said, surprised.

"Brock, I saw Peter arrive just now, but I haven't seen him in the house," Celeste spoke cautiously.

"Mr. Palmer is on an important call. If you'd like, why don't you return in a moment?" Brock said, trying to keep her away from an uncomfortable situation.

That comment wouldn't have bothered her on another occasion, but after more than two months, the fact that he arrived and didn't make any move to see her was making her nervous.

"Brock, I need to speak with Peter for just a second. I promise I won't interrupt," Celeste insisted.

Peter was looking out the window while on the phone. He was so focused on the conversation that he didn't notice

who was at the door.

"Theodore, just tell me she's okay! I just want to know that! You didn't give me a chance to see her or say anything to her. I just want to know that. Why the hell are you doing this to me? You know how I feel about her! Please... Just tell me. I need to know that Mary is okay," Peter said, his voice tinged with worry and frustration.

His frustration was so palpable that he wasn't shouting, but his voice was louder than usual. Celeste, hearing this, lowered her gaze and chose not to speak to him.

It was clear that Brock noticed what Celeste had just heard. It was Impossible not to see how the spark in her eyes dimmed. She didn't say anything and simply left. She didn't run, didn't cry, and didn't interrupt his call. She just walked back to her room.
