My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

Chapter Gud Wife 214

Chapter 0214

"Valerie, you made that promise while you were mourning a good man. But I believe, from wherever he is, he'd want you to be with someone who loves and values you. I'm not just saying this to cheer Marcus on, but have you ever noticed the way he looks at you? The way he's helped you? That man's pushed you past the limits you set for yourself. Look at you now-going back to college!"

"Camille... I'm scared."

"Scared of what? Of being loved back? of feeling someone's love for you? Of being happy?" "I am happy!"

"Not this kind of happiness. I mean the joy of being in a relationship. The kind of happiness a man can give you. I'm not saying to go wild, but you're young and deserve a good partner."

"Camille, I'm tired. I'm going to bed."

"Think it through. If I were you, there wouldn't be much to think about. Goodnight, sweetheart," Camille said, heading to her room. She watched Valerie retreat to her own.

The next morning, Valerie got ready for work, feeling exhausted and sleep-deprived. On the metro, she closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them, she nearly missed her stop. She hurried off and walked to the office, using the time to sort through her thoughts. She'd made a decision: she would give love another chance, as long as Serenity was okay with it.

When she arrived at Marcus's office, she was surprised to see Frederick already there.

"Valerie! Miss, how are you? I'm back! Being stuck at home drives me crazy!" Frederick said with a wide grin.

"Frederick! I'm fine. And how are you?"

"Much better now!"

"I'm glad to hear it!" Marcus's deep voice interjected.

Valerie turned to see him, and butterflies immediately began fluttering in her stomach. Today, Marcus looked especially handsome, dressed entirely in black, carrying his briefcase in one hand and his jacket in the other. The look gave him an air of elegance and confidence, but it also made him look undeniably sexy. Valerie felt goosebumps rise on her skin.

"Hello, Valerie. How's my little Serene?" Marcus asked.

"Hi, Marcus. She was so exhausted she stayed asleep when I left for work."

"I'm not surprised. Yesterday was a busy day for her. But as long as she had fun, that's what matters." Valerie nodded. Frederick observed their interaction in amazement. These two had gone from avoiding being alone with the child to now going on outings together in just a month and a half. Maybe he should get sick more often- perhaps his stubborn friend would finally see how special Valerie was. "Marcus, you seem more cheerful!" Frederick teased.

"My friend, I had a great weekend. It helped me regain some peace of mind. How could I not look like this?"

"That's good to hear!"

"You see, Frederick, I can handle things on my own!"

Chapter 02.14

"I've never said you couldn't. But still, I enjoy helping you Frederick replied with a laugh.

After exchanging pleasantries, Frederick retreated to his office, leaving Marcus and Valerie to go over their tasks. Frederick secretly hoped Valerie would continue assisting Marcus-it would lighten his workload and give him time to focus on more pressing matters in Valentia, particularly Frank Levett. As Frederick settled in, Marcus and Valerie began reviewing their agenda. When they finished, Valerie stood to leave, but Marcus gently grabbed her wrist.

"And you? How are you? Did you sleep well? Did you rest? Marcus asked, his gaze steady.

Valerie hesitated, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the questions. Taking a deep breath, she answered, "I'm fine. No, I didn't sleep well. I was thinking about what you said..."

"What did you decide?" Marcus asked softly.

"Marcus, you know some things about my life, but not everything. I hope you'll be patient with me and understand my fears and doubts. This isn't easy, but I want to give love another chance," she said, lowering her head, embarrassed by her admission.

"Valerie..." Marcus said, rising from his chair and walking to her. "I promise I'll do everything in my power to make you happy," he said, kneeling to meet her gaze.

"Marcus... I... I have so many doubts and insecurities. Please, be patient with me.

"You don't need to keep repeating it. I know I'm facing a storm of emotions, but I want to try. I want to win your heart little by little. Knowing you're giving me this chance makes me happy," Marcus said as he cupped her neck and leaned in to kiss her.

With that kiss, they sealed a silent pact. Both were committed to nurturing the spark of love between them, even if neither had been ready to admit it before. It was already there, waiting to ignite.
