Chapter 300 Asked For Forgiveness
It was true that Celine had taken advantage of Jack.
After being driven out of Ninwell City, Celine met up with two friends in a bar. Seeing how troubled she was, they offered her a drug that could make her forget everything, and she became obsessed with it.
Last week, after both of them had heard how much of a good life she had in Ninwell City, they called her up and came to find her.
They had done their best to butter her up, and Celine agreed to go out with them.
They spent the night bar hopping.
They all injected some sort of drug into their systems, so even they didn't know what they were talking about during those times.
In fact, she didn't even know that she had bedded a stranger that night.
The next day, she found herself lying naked in an outdated motel.
The day after that, she received a package that held stacks of photos that showed her and some strange man. Next, someone called her up, asking for a sum of money; otherwise, these photos would be all over the Internet.
However, she had no money.
She had already taken out all the money she had left to find someone to investigate and follow Rachel around. Now, her account was probably as wiped clean as her face.
"Please give me some time to prepare," she had begged.
Surprisingly, the man had agreed. What she didn't know was that he had already contacted Baron about the photos.
Of course, everything went according to the stranger's plan.
Given that Celine was his girlfriend by name, Baron had to use his own money to buy him out. This was his reputation on the line! As soon as he returned home, he took out his anger on her, which resulted to the injuries she had now.
Her tears slid down her face as she wrenched the needle from the back of her hand. She struggled to reach Jack. "Listen to me," she stuttered. "I was framed. Please trust me."
"I don't care."
Jack could only stare at her coldly. "Don't ever call me again."
Without giving her a chance to reply, he left. After taking the antibiotics, Rachel felt much better.
When she went out of the room, she didn't see Eric. She chuckled. This guy will never grow up. He probably went somewhere to party again.'
On the contrary, she actually envied the man for being so carefree. He always lived a good life without a single care in the world.
As she was pouring herself a glass of water in the kitchen, her phone rang.
"Hi, Dad!" she greeted.
"You finally turned on your phone." He sighed in relief. "Where are you now? Do you think you can come over? Or is it better if I come to you?"
Given the urgency of his voice, she knew that he wanted to talk about the news regarding Jack and Celine.
She thought for a while and replied, "I'll go to you. Wait for me."
She already made up her mind to tell him her decision.
The sun was about to set when Rachel got out of the Fu family's house. She sent a message to Eric and asked that the driver to take her to her home. When she got out of the car, she happened to run into Jack.
Jack had just returned from Eric's house. When he saw her, he was so relieved that he walked up to her and reached for her hand. She avoided him, only for his hand to fall back to his side. He smiled awkwardly. "Rachel."
She nodded expressionlessly.
Jack observed her actions carefully. It seemed that she still looked the same as she did a few days back. Maybe that meant that she still hadn't seen the news.
In the morning, after Eric went over to make a fuss, he immediately asked someone to suppress the news. Now, not even a picture was posted on the Internet. "I got delayed last night. I'm sorry.
How about we go to that restaurant now? I've already booked a table," he said, gazing at her fawningly.
Rachel shrugged. "No, thanks." After saying that, she headed to her room and turned on her computer. Her mouse scrolled over the form that the director had sent over. Without hesitation, she began to fill it
out.
On her way back from the Fu family, she had already called the hospital to tell them that she would be attending the training abroad.
The next morning, Jack changed into his clothes and headed back to buy some breakfast. He knocked on the master bedroom, calling out, "Rachel, get up and have some breakfast. I'll take you to the hospital later."
She opened the door with a click.
After gazing up at him, she went downstairs into the dining room. However, she didn't touch the breakfast that he had bought for her. Instead, she made herself a cup of coffee.
"Don't you want to try the shrimp dumplings?" he coaxed her.
Glancing at the door, Rachel took a sip from her coffee and walked up to the porch. She didn't even look at him as she grabbed her car keys.
Jack hurried towards her. "I'll drive you there."
She neither agreed nor refused.
This was how Rachel treated Jack.
Given that these were the last few days that they were together, she shouldn't treat him so bad, but then again, she also didn't treat him well either. However, in Jack's eyes, he thought that this was a good sign.
At least she wasn't as cold to him as before.
Now, they were just right back to where they once started.
He believed that as long as he treated her better, it wouldn't be long before she would forgive him. Soon enough, they would get back together.
In the canteen, Lucas bought two sandwiches. He handed one to Rachel. "Didn't you have breakfast?"
She usually didn't come here in the morning. Rachel shrugged. "I find the sandwiches here are quite delicious."
"I heard that you agreed to go abroad?"
After the department meeting they had yesterday afternoon, the director asked for his opinion of the meeting as well as informed him of Rachel's decision. She nodded. "I feel like it's about time I expand my horizons,"
she joked.
However, he didn't smile. "Is it because of the news?"
"What news?"
"Rachel," he reprimanded, implying that she shouldn't beat around the bush.
Sighing, she lowered her sandwich. "I realized how complicated it is to deal with relationships. Maybe I'm better off reading medical books. What do you think?
At this point, it's best to just concentrate on my career." He eyed her cautiously. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah!"
She shrugged. "I'll be going now."
Having lost his appetite, Lucas threw the sandwich into the trash can and informed the director of his leave. He drove away in a hurry.
During this time, Iris was in a cosmetic shop. She was scanning over a bottle of lotion and applying it on the back of the customer's hand. "It's really suitable for your skin," she complimented. "Not oily at all." "Any discount?" the customer urged.
"If you spend a thousand, we'll give you a voucher worth two hundred. You can use it next time,"
she said in ease.
Standing next to her, Lucas watched the way she handed over the packaged goods and gave her the receipt. Once no one was around, her smile faltered as she rubbed her aching calf.
"Iris," he called.
She almost jumped "Why did you come here?"
"Are you free? Can we talk?"
She was about to refuse him, but when she saw the disappointment on his face, she couldn't find it in herself to say no. "My colleague has gone out. I can go with you once she comes back," she murmured. The corners of his lips inched up. "Okay. I'll wait for you in the car."
He waited for a long time, so he decided to listen to all their favorite songs. As his head nodded to the beat, he couldn't help but recall the past they had.
Iris opened his car and sat in the passenger seat. "I have ten minutes. What's up?"
"I'll be training abroad starting next Friday. It will take a year," he stated.
"Oh. Congratulations!"
Iris's eyes widened in surprise, but she could already feel her heart plummeting into her stomach.
It felt as if she didn't deserve him anymore.
Lucas wanted to touch her hand, but he later retracted. "We'll improve ourselves in the next year.
If you still want to break up a year later, then I'll let you go.
I want you to know that I only want to marry you."
"Improve ourselves?" she murmured, in a daze. "Yes. I'll wait for you to give up that ridiculous thought that you don't deserve me," he said.
After he said his farewells, Iris watched him drive away.
Back when she was still supported by the Ying family, she thought that she would be able to stand by his side.
Now, she was nothing but a saleswoman.
The employees of MK Group had never seen their boss so absent-minded. For a moment, they were more focused as to why he was like that rather than finishing up on their work.
Of course, Jack was still racking his brains as to find another way to ask for Rachel's forgiveness.
A female employee happened to enter his office to give him a document. As she was about to leave, Jack stopped her.
"Wait," he called. "I have something to ask you."
Her head was bowed. "Mr. Fu, what seems to be the problem."
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"What?" The woman furrowed her eyebrows.
It seemed that he found the right person. "How does your boyfriend apologize to you when you're angry with him." The woman was stunned as she rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "He buys me lipsticks."
"That's it?" Jack frowned. Rachel usually wore light make-up, so it was rare for him to see her applying lipsticks.
The woman nodded. "I like lipsticks, so my boyfriend buys them for me. Just buy whatever you think she likes."
A medical book!
That was the first thing he thought of.
Maybe he could send over a medical book to apologize.
After thanking the woman, Jack thought about it for a long time before he drove out to the nearest bookstore.
When Rachel arrived in their house, she saw a pile of books sitting on the tea table. Her eyes widened in surprise.
At the sight of her cold face faltering, his heart skipped a beat.
The woman was right! Maybe Rachel would be able to forgive him.
Jack cleared his throat. "It's all my fault, so I bought your favorite medical books to apologize, he said. "I promise that I'll be a good husband from now on."
He even raised up his hand to swear to her.
Not bothering to listen to him, Rachel glanced at the titles before flipping through one of them. In a minute, she put it down and said, "I've already read all of them.
Besides, they're already in the study cabinet. You can either return them or donate them to the library."
Jack felt so frustrated.
Staring at her retreating back, he found the sudden urge to knock himself out.
Why the hell didn't he look at her own books first before buying some?
He gritted his teeth.
He packed the books helplessly and threw them into the trunk of his car.
