Chapter Epilogue
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
I can hear machines. I open my eyes to see my brother and father sitting next to me, staring impatiently as if waiting for the moment my eyes would open.
I’m alive, and I do not know how it’s possible. I remember seeing Lenny, but I also remember being torn away and pushed away from where I had been brought.
“Welcome home,” my father says with a smile.
“Yeah, it’s been like six months, Odette. What took you so long?” Pax jumps in and grabs my hand.
My father adds, “Everything is going to be just fine. You were in an accident.”
I roll my head to the right and notice the familiarity of my location.
“Six,” I try to speak but feel like I have a knot in my throat.
“It’s okay, just rest. We can talk about it later.” My brother squeezes my hand, and I look up at him with excitement.
“Where am I?” I choke.
My brother looks at my father for affirmation.
“Eider, sister,” Pax states with a faint smile.
“The gates,” I try to speak, but I feel the drowsiness settling once again.
“Everything is fine,” Pax reassures me as I drift off into the darkness.
