Chapter 8: Why Don't You Marry Rebecca?
"Rebecca, I heard that you were sold by your family to the William Family. Is that true?"
Lotus, an old maid, asked Rebecca who was lying on the bed while applying medicine to Rebecca's badly injured back.
Rebecca rested her chin on the back of her hand and smiled, "Yes, inasense!"
"Oh, how cruel and heartless your family is!"
Lotus was so surprised that she couldn't control the strength in her hands.
"Ouch!"
Rebecca screamed out of pain.
"I'm sorry.I'll be more careful.Noticing that she had hurt Rebecca, Lotus immediately apologized.
"It doesn't matter."
Rebecca smiled faintly.
"Well, it's known in this house that Adam likes Linda Green very much.I think Mr.William brought you back not only because you
can donate blood to Adam when necessary, but also he wants you to separate Adam and Lina. After all, you're not less beautiful
than her."
Lotus continued.
At this time, Rebecca suddenly became interested and asked with a smile, "Lotus, have you ever seen Linda?"
"Yes, almost a year ago, Adam brought Linda back and said he wanted to marry her.Mr.William hit Adam badly, saying he would
never agree to the marriage.’
"Then do you know why Mr.William is so resolute in this matter?"
Rebecca asked curiously.
"I don't know, either. It perhaps has something to do with Linda's family. She is the daughter of Owen who committed suicide three
years ago because of his company's bankruptcy and his huge debts, followed by his wife's death.Rumor has it that the
manipulator behind all this is Mr.William.After all, the major beneficiary is the Long-lasting Wealth Group.’
"I see.Thanks for your information."
Rebecca gave a sweet smile.
"By the way, here is another reason, maybe.I heard that Mr.William had an affair with Owen's wife and was caught in bed by
him!"
Being immersed in gossiping, Lotus leaned over to Rebecca and whispered in her ear.
"What?"
Rebecca's eyes widened in an instant.
"Hush! Don't tell others. If Mrs.William finds we're talking about this, we'll be kicked off"
Rebecca nodded, "Lotus, rest assured.I'll keep it a secret between us."
"Well, I think you're so kind.Otherwise, you wouldn't have protected Adam.But Adam didn't even take a glance at you.How
heartless he is!"
Lotus's eyes were tinged with a touch of sympathy when she looked at the wound on Rebecca's back after finishing applying the
medicine.
Rebecca smiled, "Don't say that.Anyway, thank you, Lotus."
"You're welcome."
Just as Lotus was about to leave, there was a knock at the door, followed by the butler's voice.
"Rebecca, Mr.William wants you to go to Adam's room and sleep with him.’ Rebecca's whole body stiffened.
"Rebecca?"
Hearing no response, the butler shouted again.
Rebecca came to her senses, put on her pajamas, and opened the door, with a hesitant look on her face.
Seeing her like this, the butler kindly comforted her, "You've been married. So rest assured!"
After a while, Rebecca nodded in agreement.
'Even if Adam dislikes me, I gotta have a try.Otherwise, I'll perhaps never get the chance to be closer to him”
"OK, then let's go upstairs right now.’ Rebecca nodded and followed the butler to Adam's room.
"Adam, are you asleep? Rebecca is here."
The butler knocked on the door and asked.
But there was no response.
The butler smiled at Rebecca.
"He must be asleep. You can go in alone.’ Then he gently opened the door for Rebecca.
Though nervous, Rebecca braced herself and walked in.
It was pitch dark inside.
"Bang! “
A thing fell at Rebecca's feet suddenly, sending her trembling with fear.
"Get out of here!"
There was a sudden roar from Adam.
Rebecca didn't dare to move anymore.
"Mr.William!"
Suddenly, the butler called out respectfully.
Rebecca turned her head and saw Arthur striding over.
"Are you okay, Rebecca?"
Arthur asked with concern.
Rebecca said with a pale face.
"Yes, I'm fine."
"That's good."
Arthur nodded and turned on the lights in the room.
Rebecca stood at the door and saw Adam sitting on the sofa with a cold face.
"Adam, how could you treat Rebecca so badly? She saved you at the risk of her life and has looked after you for two months.Let
alone she's your wife. When did you become so heartless?"
Arthur stared angrily at Adam.
"Rebecca is twenty years old, only five years younger than you.But I think she's maturer than you.’ However, Adam sneered
disdainfully.
"Well, now that she's so good, why don't you divorce my mother and marry Rebecca?"
"How dare you...’ Arthur trembled with anger.
"Mr.William, calm down," the butler immediately interrupted to ease the tension.
"Dad, it's late. You should go to bed.I'll have a good talk with Adam"
If Arthur and Adam continued to argue like this, it would be worse.
Adam would also hate Rebecca even more.
It wasn't what Rebecca wanted.
"Yeah, Mr.William, leave them alone," the butler echoed.
Arthur agreed that if he continued to lose his temper, things would go worse, so he suppressed the anger and looked at
Rebecca.
"Rebecca, you don't have to be afraid of him.You are the daughter-in-law accepted by my family. No one else can be Adam's wife
except you."
Rebecca looked at Arthur and smiled in silence.
She knew Arthur said it deliberately to warn Adam, not to demonstrate his acceptance of herself.
Arthur took a warning look at Adam and left.
Rebecca squatted down to pick up the thing on the ground and put it on the coffee table not far away, while Adam leaned back
against the sofa and covered his eyes with his hands.
Seeing him like this, Rebecca closed the door, turned off the lights, and walked to the sofa...
