Moonville Series 1: Secret Lovers

Chapter 27

It was decided that the talent presentation of Bryan and Kim for Mr. & Ms. Business School will be an interpretative dance. Well, it was decided by Hannah alone, and she prepared everything from the concept of the dance, to the music and even the dance instructor who will teach them the choreography.

"Interpretative dance?" Bryan was stunned.

"Yes," Hannah answered.

The two of them are in the Business School student lounge, together with Kim and Andrew, their choreographer and dance instructor.

'But..." Bryan seems problematic as he looked at Hannah.

'The song will be 'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion. You will be Rose and Jack. Isn't it wonderful, Kuya Andrew?"

Andrew just smiled at Hannah. Kim is just listening quietly.

'But... I don't know how to dance!"

The three looked at Bryan.

'I'm not dancing!" He's shaking his head as a sign of protest.

'It will be easy," Andrew said. 'The steps are not complicated. You just need to show the emotions of the song. You have to make the audience feel like you really love each other, and you're sad because you'll be separated because you won't survive the sinking of the Titanic."

'Do we need back up dancers?" Hannah asked Andrew.

'Yes, and we need props and costumes. But I'll help you with those things," Andrew said.

"Great!" Hannah exclaimed.

'I will never dance!" Bryan said with finality.

'Bry, that will be a good talent," Hannah said. 'It's different. Definitely no one will do the same and for sure you'll win best talent on the pageant night."

'I am not dancing!" Bryan is getting frustrated. Now he knows what Angel and the other officers of JPIA has to deal with about their president.

'Then, what will you perform?" Hannah asked him.

What will he perform? Bryan does not know what to answer because he haven't given thought about that. Also, he's not sure if he will even reach that part of the competition.

'I might not be included in the Top 5," he told Hannah.

"Don't you ever say that! You will join to win and nothing else. Also, if you won't dance, then who will be Kim's partner? People might think that that guy is the real contestant and not you," Hannah said to him. Bryan looked at Kim. He suddenly felt guilty.

'It will be fine," Kim said to Bryan, smiling kindly. 'I'm also not very good at dancing. But like what Kuya Andrew said, he will help us learn the steps."

'That's right," Hannah agreed.

Bryan wondered if Kim is really telling the truth. Is she really not good at dancing? If that's the case, then it will be a disaster if they dance together as a pair. He really can't follow even a simple step when it comes to dancing. If it's true that Kim is not a good dancer, of if she's just being shy about it, then she needs a very good dance partner to boost her confidence and take the lead on the dance. And Bryan knows exactly who can do that.

'I know who can be your dance partner," Bryan said to Kim.

Everyone was surprised at Bryan's sudden announcement.

"Who is it?" Hannah asked.

Bryan gathered his things as he stood up. 'Just text me the details of the practice tomorrow. I'll bring Kim's dance partner." He then left.

'This is the first time that Bryan de Vera acted weirdly," Hannah commented.

The three wasn't able to stop Bryan as he disappeared from their meeting.

******

That night, Bryan went to Richard's house. He is the person he thought who could be Kim's dance partner. When it comes to dancing, Richard can keep up with the professional dancers performing on the television. He once joined a workshop for dancing when they were still living in Manila. He said he has nothing to do that summer so he tried joining in the workshop.

They talked in Richard's room because no one should hear what they are talking about. Richard's parents might discover that they are interacting with the Martinez sisters.

'You joined Mr. Business School?" Shock is an understatement about Richard's reaction.

'I had no choice," Bryan said. 'That time, that is the only idea that came to my mind." That time, all he could think of is he needs to save Angel from Hannah's nagging. He wasn't able to think of another solution because it seemed like Angel is about to cry any moment that time.

Just like that time they were in the library. He wasn't able to think of a way to avoid getting caught by Richard. Aside from that, he suddenly got confused and lost his focus when he realized that Angel is just inches away from him. So he just thought of kissing her. Though, he admits there was a part of him who just wanted to kiss Angel that time.

He brushed the thought off his mind and returned to the present time. 'I just felt bad for Angel that time. Hannah said a lot of hurtful things, as if Angel committed a great sin."

'Maybe it was really a big deal for her."

Bryan sighed. 'Maybe."

Richard smiled. "But I can't imagine you doing the pageant, Bry." He laughed all of a sudden.

'Okay, you can laugh at me like that," Bryan said, quite annoyed. 'But that's the reason why I'm here."

'You want me to teach you how to project and sashay on the stage?" Richard laughed again.

Bryan scowled at Richard. The latter tried so hard to suppress his laughter.

'Okay... So, what can I help you with?" Richard asked.

'Hannah wanted a dance presentation for the talent portion."

Richard laughed again. He's aware that Bryan could not dance.

'Can you be Kim's dance partner on her dance presentation?"

Richard stopped laughing. 'Me? But, I'm not from BS. Will that be okay?"

'Of course. You'll just back her up. Dance partner. She can actually get any dance partner, even her trainer can accompany her." 'What will we dance?"

"My Heart Will Go On. Interpretative dance," Bryan answered. 'You will be Jack, and Kim will be Rose."

'Really?" Richard suddenly became excited. 'Okay, then. I accept."

'Really?"

"Yeah," Richard answered. 'That will be so cool. The costumes and the props... It's like we're doing a play while dancing."

"But you have to remember to make Kim shine. She needs to be on the spotlight and not you."

"Don't worry, Cuz. I'll take care of Kim," Richard said confidently.

Somehow, Bryan felt relieved that one problem was resolved. But he still had too much to fix. He still needs to think of his own talent. And his biggest problem is the pageant itself. He still couldn't imagine himself modeling in front of a crowd. Whatever. He'll get through that somehow. What can he do if he doesn't win? He'll just do his best, just like what he always do.
