I, Amelia Evans, felt like a hollow shell, yet I somehow managed to arrange Lily's funeral. Every detail was a fresh stab to my heart. Her tiny body, once full of life and joy, now lay still, abandoned by the world.
The hospital staff looked at me with pity and sorrow. They had probably seen death countless times, but my pain was raw and unbearable.
Forty-eight agonizing hours passed, stretching into an eternity of darkness. Lily's father vanished, not a single phone call. Our past love, fragile as glass, shattered into countless pieces, leaving deep wounds in my heart.
My heart was dead, numb to the world. I mechanically printed the divorce the printer's hum a final judgment on our marriage.

Like a soulless statue, I sat in our familiar yet alien home, waiting for him. Each minute felt like a century, my pain amplified by the silence.
Finally, his familiar yet alien figure appeared at the door. Instead of remorse or grief, his face was filled with contempt and disdain, as if he was looking at something repulsive.
My dear husband, John Miller, has nothing but disgust in his eyes. "You
useless woman," he shouted, "where's the medicine I asked Lily to deliver? Did she take it to heaven? Don't you know Raina's been hospitalized for two days because of it?"

His voice held no trace of concern for our daughter, only for his Menu
ex-girlfriend, Raina Monroe. Lily's life or death seemed irrelevant to him.
He impatiently tossed his jacket onto the sofa, a pungent, unfamiliar
perfume filling the air. I frowned, my disgust growing.
I took an allergy pill from the drawer and swallowed it, the bitter taste
mirroring my despair. He watched me, his eyes narrowed, scrutinizing me like a
bizarre clown.
"What are you playing at?" he roared. "Raina's allergic to alcohol, and now you are too? Are you trying to get my attention? She's in the hospital, why aren't there with her? You're just trying to play the victim, you phony!"

His words were like daggers to my heart. His bias and coldness made me feel
like I was trapped in an ice cave.
"Where's Lily? Get her out here to apologize to Raina! Raina's so generous,
she doesn't even blame her, even though she's covered in hives and still defending your daughter!"
"Look at the daughter you raised, causing me nothing but trouble. And look
at you! What kind of mother are you? You're a failure, you can't even raise a child properly!"
He waved his hands dismissively, his disdain for Lily evident, as if she was a worthless burden.

"I need to teach her a lesson today! That little brat, I'll show her what Menu
discipline means! Don't think she can get away with everything, it's all your fault for spoiling her!"
He clenched his fists, knuckles white, as if he were a righteous crusader and Lily a heinous criminal.
I gritted my teeth, suppressing the rage that threatened to consume me.
I slammed the divorce papers onto the table. "Sign it," I said, "you don't have
to torment my daughter anymore. You have no right to lecture her. I'm giving up,
I'm getting out of your way, isn't that enough? You don't deserve to be a father, stop hurting us!"
John was like a powder keg, instantly ignited by my words. He threw the papers on the floor, stomping and twisting them into shreds.
"Your daughter did something wrong, and you're making a scene? Raina's
generosity doesn't mean I can keep letting Lily get away with this! You're always
threatening me with divorce, your daughter does something wrong, and you still defend her!"
His face was red, veins bulging in his neck, spittle flying as he spoke.

John cut me off, his voice booming with impatience."Enough already! What'
s wrong with me asking her to buy medicine? There are people everywhere, what
could possibly happen? She's too spoiled! You always baby her, you turned her into a useless thing!"
His eyes burned with fury, as if he wanted to devour me. His words were
like thunderclaps, each one laced with annoyance, as if I was deliberately provoking him.
He didn't realize his mistake, shifting all the blame onto Lily and me.
He pulled a box from his suit pocket and threw it at me. It bounced on the
floor with a thud, echoing in my heart.
"This should shut you up! Get Lily out here, I'll talk to her directly. From
now on, I'll discipline her, you stay out of it! In this house, everyone listens to me, don't test my limits!"
His voice was harsh and domineering, each word a sharp blade piercing my wounded heart.
Looking at his cold expression, I suddenly felt there was no point in telling
him about Lily anymore. He didn't care, she held no place in his heart.
In his world, there was only him and his ex-girlfriend, only whether Lily
had caused her any inconvenience.

John didn't care about Lily's life or death, he was just a dispenenble objeer to
him. His selfishness and heartlessness were on full display
Realizing this, I laughed, a biter, mocking laugh
This was the man I once loved, the husband who fathered my child. Hie
cruelty and indifference chilled me to the bone
I picked up the box of perfume and opened it. The scent was the same as the
one on his clothes.
He couldn't even be bothered to pretend. He bought two identical gifts, one
for Raina and one to throw at me like I was a beggar Bur in his eyes, Iwas worse
than a beggar.
He only had his ex-girlfriend in his heart. Lily and I were like unwanted
extras, heartlessly ignored and abandoned.
Almost all perfumes on the market contain alcohol, it's common knowledge I'm severely allergic to alcohol, any contact causes a severe reaction, so I never use perfume with alcohol.
Strangely, Raina, who always claimed to be allergic to alcohol as well, loved perfume, seemingly unconcerned about its effects. Perhaps only she knew the reason why.
