Chapter 415 Asking for Leave with Such an Arrogant Attitude?
Not too far from their ride, a black SUV was just chillin'. The streetlights were barely doing their job, and Alaric couldn't make out the folks inside, but he could totally feel their eyes on him. 'Has that car always been there? Are they waiting for us? What the heck are they up to?' Alaric didn't waste any time and fired up the engine. The black SUV stayed put, not budging an inch. This whole vibe was creepy, like they were out in the open while the other guys were lurking in the shadows, making him feel like they were being watched 24/7.
He could handle it himself, but he was super worried about Stellan and the kids.
"Something up, Alaric?" Stellan asked, noticing Alaric was lost in thought.
Alaric shook his head. "Nah, just thinking about the movie plot. It was really good."
Stellan was like, 'Seriously?'
"Getting all emotional over a movie is fine, but letting it mess with my mood? Not worth it," Alaric said. "Let's go grab Caspian, Harry, and Elisa. You'll feel better once we have them." Stellan nodded. "Okay."
So, Alaric and Stellan went to pick up the kids, who were having such a blast with Aurora that they didn't wanna leave.
"It's getting late. Cormac, Rowena, and Aurora need to hit the hay. We can't keep them up," Stellan said.
"Alright then." Hearing this, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa said their goodbyes to Cormac and followed Alaric and Stellan to the car.
"Daddy, Mommy, what movie did you watch? Was it good?" Elisa asked.
Alaric grinned, "It was awesome. It moved your mommy to tears. She was still crying before we picked you up."
Stellan denied, "Don't listen to him. I wasn't crying the whole time."
"Mommy's really emotional, crying over a movie," Harry teased.
Stellan switched gears. "Let's not talk about that. Were you guys good at Cormac's place?"
"Of course, we were angels," Elisa said, feeling a bit guilty. "Daddy, Mommy, today Aurora gave Uncle Cormac and Aunt Rowena some gold jewelry. I feel kinda bad we haven't given you any gifts." "Good for you," Alaric said bluntly. "Elisa, you can start saving up now. Gold's a bit much; if you get us some silver jewelry, we'll cherish it."
"Daddy, are you making fun of me? You're underestimating me," Elisa said. "Don't worry, I'll definitely get you some gold jewelry and wish you a lifetime of happiness together."
"You sure know how to butter us up," Stellan said.
"Of course," Elisa said proudly.
By the time they got back to the Knight Mansion, it was already late. The kids went to wash up and crash, while Alaric walked Stellan to their bedroom.
"It's late. Let's hit the sack," Stellan said.
Alaric replied, "Okay, good night."
Stellan said, "Good night."
Stellan quickly dozed off in his arms, but Alaric couldn't sleep, his mind stuck on that black SUV.
So the next day at the office, he immediately called Silas, having already jotted down the car's license plate number.
Silas got back to him in no time. "Mr. Knight, there's definitely something fishy about that car. The license plate's a fake, and we can't trace the real owner."
Alaric had a hunch it'd be like this. Those folks were definitely up to something. Were they scared the Storm Family case would get reopened? Were they planning to off them to keep things quiet, or was it something else? Just as he was mulling it over, Alaric's phone buzzed. It was Cormac. He picked up. "Cormac."
"Mr. Knight, I need a day off. Aurora's school has a special event today, and Rowena and I need to be there," Cormac said.
Alaric raised an eyebrow. "What if I don't approve your leave?"
"Even if you don't, I'm not showing up at the office today. If you got the guts, fire me. That way, I won't have to quit myself," Cormac shot back.
"Asking for leave with that kind of attitude?" Alaric grumbled. "Since you've already made up your mind, why even bother asking? For Aurora's sake, I'll let it slide this time. Go ahead."
Cormac chuckled. "Thanks, Mr. Knight."
Hearing Cormac talk to Alaric like that, Rowena couldn't help but say, "I really envy your friendship with Mr. Knight. Even with misunderstandings, once they're cleared up, you still have a deep bond."
"With Alaric's prickly personality, I'm his only friend. Who else could put up with him?" Cormac joked, then quickly turned to Aurora, "Aurora, you ready? Let's go have some fun." Aurora nodded excitedly. "Okay!"
Today was a special event at Aurora's school, where family members were invited to join in activities and then write a journal entry. Aurora was super grateful to have Cormac and Rowena. Otherwise, events like this would be a nightmare for an orphan like her.
Cormac and Rowena, not being parents yet, found the whole experience of being guardians pretty new and exciting.
The event was really meaningful, and as Aurora's guardians, the teachers and even the principal praised them for raising such an awesome kid. After the event, Cormac and Rowena took Aurora out for some steak.
"Thanks for coming to the event with me. I had a blast today," Aurora said happily.
"We should be thanking you, Aurora. Because of how great you are, the teachers couldn't stop praising us," Rowena said with a smile.
Aurora chimed in, "Even though I'm not your kid, with such kind and awesome people like you, your future kids will definitely be amazing too." Cormac and Rowena didn't expect Aurora to bring up the topic herself.
"Aurora, do you want us to have kids?" Rowena asked.
Aurora blurted out, "Of course! That way, I can be a big sister. The siblings you give me will be as cute as Caspian, Harry, and Elisa." Hearing this, Cormac and Rowena exchanged a look, deeply touched.
"Aurora, do you want a brother or a sister?" Rowena asked.
"As long as they're your kids, I'll love them, no matter if they're a boy or a girl. I'll be a great big sister."
Knowing how Aurora felt, Cormac and Rowena felt totally at ease.
"Thank you, Aurora," Cormac said, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Whether we have a boy or a girl, you'll always be our special one." "Okay!" Aurora said, giggling happily.
