Chapter 277 Cormac, I'm So Happy You Could Come
Cormac now really wished he could kill Ambrose. Ambrose was so despicable and shameless, forcing him to meet Alaric, the person he least wanted to see, and do the things he despised the most.
"Cormac, what brought you here all of a sudden?" Alaric asked.
Hearing from Linda on the phone that Cormac had arrived, Alaric couldn't believe it. When he actually saw Cormac standing in front of him, he still found it unbelievable. "Because I need to talk to you," Cormac replied.
"Just say it," Alaric quickly responded.
"Do the things you mentioned last time still count?" Cormac asked.
The things Alaric had mentioned last time were about asking Cormac to help him at the company?
"Of course, they count," Alaric answered straightforwardly. "It always counts. Cormac, have you thought it through and decided to come help me?"
Cormac really despised himself now. He didn't want to do these things, yet he was forced to. He truly hated it!
"Aurora wants to learn a new skill, which requires a lot of money." Cormac could only come up with such a lousy excuse to make Alaric believe him.
"No problem. How much do you need? I'll give it to you right away," Alaric said.
"No need, it's not urgent until next month," Cormac said. "I'll work for you. So just pay me my salary on time."
"Cormac, I didn't mean for you to work for me. I genuinely want you to come help me," Alaric said. "Even though you say you're a doctor and not skilled in managing a company, I know you're just being modest."
He went on, "Back then, Griffon insisted you inherit the family business and forced you to learn. You did learn, and even if you hadn't, you're not just an ordinary psychologist. You had your own hospital, and as the director, you were also a manager. It's all the same."
"Stop with the hypocritical words. I know my own capabilities," Cormac said.
"Yes, I spoke too much," Alaric continued. "I'm just so happy you can come help me. It feels like a dream."
Seeing Alaric so happy really surprised Cormac. He had known Alaric for so many years and had never seen him smile so happily.
Alaric was genuinely, unreservedly, and sincerely happy. Cormac wondered if Alaric really wanted his help and truly cared about him as a friend.
Alaric said, "As I mentioned last time, I'm planning to acquire a jewelry company. Given the current situation of Nexus Innovations, each major branch has its own person in charge. For now, I'm temporarily overseeing the entertainment division, which hasn't been specifically assigned yet."
He continued, "The jewelry company we're about to acquire also doesn't have a designated person in charge. If you can, you could oversee both the entertainment division and the jewelry company. If that's too much, you can choose one." Alaric's tone was completely consultative, with none of his previous commanding attitude, as if he was carefully avoiding touching Cormac's pride.
"Mr. Knight, I'll follow your arrangements," Cormac said.
"You don't have to call me Mr. Knight. Just call me like you used to," Alaric voiced.
"Things are different. Since I'm your subordinate now, I should address you this way," Cormac said.
"Alright, as you wish." Alaric couldn't hide his happiness. He added, "I'm genuinely happy you can come help me. I've already told Galatea that after the jewelry company is settled, I'll stop working to get treatment. I was worried about who to temporarily take over, and you came just in time."
Cormac just lowered his head, unable to say anything. The happier Alaric was, the more it tested Cormac's conscience.
Whether it was charity or compensation, Alaric's trust in him was genuine. Unfortunately, he came with a purpose.
"You've been here often before, so you're familiar with the environment. I'll have Silas explain your specific responsibilities. For now, your office will be next to mine. Is that arrangement okay?" Alaric asked.
Alaric's tone of inquiry made Cormac uncomfortable, so he said, "You're the director, so naturally, you decide. I'll follow your arrangements."
"Alright," Alaric agreed.
"Okay, Mr. Knight, you go on your business. I'll find Silas myself," Cormac said, then turned and walked out.
Although it was clear that Cormac felt particularly awkward and humiliated, Alaric was just happy that he came.
"Cormac is officially joining Nexus Innovations now?" Stellan, who had just picked up the kids from school, answered the phone and was very happy to hear the news.
"Is Cormac back?" Harry was also very excited to hear from the phone. "Did Daddy find Cormac?"
Caspian had known Cormac since he was young, but due to his introverted nature and the fact that Cormac was Orion's brother, their relationship had never been close. However, Harry, despite not spending much time with Cormac, got along very well with him and had a great relationship.
"Yes, your uncle Cormac is back," Stellan said with a smile.
"Uncle?" Elisa looked confused and asked, "Isn't an uncle supposed to be Mommy's brother? How come I didn't know you had one?"
"Cormac is not Mommy's brother. Caspian got used to calling Cormac uncle since he was young, so it just naturally became that way," Stellan explained.
Elisa was very confused.
"Don't think too much about it. Just need to know that Cormac is our uncle," Harry said, then quickly asked Stellan, "Mommy, can we go to Daddy's company to see Uncle Cormac? I haven't seen him in a long time." "Okay," Stellan agreed.
During this time, Caspian had been silent. Seeing how close Harry was to Cormac, he felt quite guilty. He thought about how Cormac had always been good to him, but due to his personality, he had never called Cormac "uncle." Cormac's office had already been tidied up. Silas was very respectful and detailed in explaining the work to Cormac, then left him alone in the office.
Cormac stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, deep in thought. If it weren't for his breathing, he would have looked like a statue. When his phone alerted him to a new message, he moved and opened it. It was an email. Ambrose: [Mr. Nash, thank you for your help. Aurora is doing well here. If you want her to return to you unharmed, please keep this a secret and complete this task.] That was all the message said. After Cormac read it, the email automatically deleted itself. They were indeed cautious, leaving no trace.
"Uncle Cormac!" Just as Cormac was about to put down his phone, he heard a clear shout from outside. Before he could react, Harry had already jumped into his arms.
