Chapter 270 Is Daddy Sick? Is It Serious?
Cormac was emotional when he was speaking just now, and after he finished, a deathly silence hung over instantly. Alaric stayed quiet. After a heavy sigh, Cormac walked to the window and looked outside, unable to calm his emotions.
"Just leave." After a long while, Cormac spoke again, "I told you we're not on the same path. Whether you considered me a friend before or not doesn't matter to me. Now you're a high and mighty CEO, and I'm just a laborer."
He then continued, "Even though you might think my current job is beneath me, I earn my money through my own labor. I don't feel ashamed about it. I have hands and feet to support myself. I don't need anyone's pity. If you want to give me a stable life, then stop coming to see me. We've already gone our separate ways."
"Cormac, that's not what I meant. I don't look down on your current job. It's just that for you..." Alaric said.
"Aurora, take a break from your homework and come out to eat." Cormac directly ignored Alaric's words and called out to Aurora in the bedroom. Aurora came out.
Aurora understood that Cormac didn't want to see Alaric anymore. She also said to Alaric, "Please leave. We are about to eat."
Because the place was so small, once the dining table was set up, it almost filled the small living room. Alaric had to step aside to make room for Cormac and Aurora to place the table, forcing him to retreat to the doorway. "Uncle, the food you bought is really lovely. Next time, I'll learn to cook it for you," Aurora said.
"Sure," Cormac replied, then asked, "How was your swimming lesson today?"
"Not bad. The coach said I have a good aptitude," Aurora answered.
"Really? That's good," Cormac said.
Cormac and Aurora chatted and laughed as usual, completely ignoring Alaric.
At this moment, Alaric felt a mix of emotions. His chest felt tight, as if a lump were in his chest, making it hard to breathe.
"Sorry to bother you," Alaric said apologetically, then slowly turned and walked out, gently closing the door behind him.
After stepping outside, he felt dizzy and quickly steadied himself against the wall to clear his head before slowly descending the stairs. After Alaric left, the atmosphere in the room changed. Cormac stopped chewing, having lost his appetite.
"Uncle, was that person your friend?" Aurora asked.
"Used to, but not anymore," Cormac replied firmly.
"Oh." Aurora, though not fully understanding, didn't dare to ask more.
"Let's continue eating," Cormac said to Aurora. She nodded, and they resumed their meal.
Back in his car, Alaric felt particularly unwell. He quickly opened the glove compartment to get his medication, only to find the bottle empty.
He gripped the steering wheel, resting his head on his hands to gather himself. Feeling a bit better, he started the car.
Because Alaric had gone to see Cormac, Stellan and Rowena were worried throughout their meal. After quickly finishing, Stellan said, "Rowena, let me take you back." "Okay," Rowena replied.
Perhaps due to their marital bond, Stellan had a bad feeling. After dropping Rowena off at the hotel, she quickly called Alaric.
"Hello," Stellan uttered.
Hearing Alaric's off tone, Stellan panicked, "What's wrong, Alaric? Are you feeling unwell?"
"A bit." Alaric didn't hide his condition from Stellan.
"Where are you now?" Stellan was genuinely scared. The last time Alaric had an episode, his heart had stopped. If it happened again with no one around, the consequences would be dire. "Don't worry, I'm almost home," Alaric voiced.
"I'll be right there." Stellan immediately turned the car around and sped home.
As Stellan drove back to the villa, Alaric's car had just pulled in. Stellan stopped her car, jumped out, and ran over to open Alaric's door. "Alaric, are you okay?" Stellan asked.
Alaric just shook his head. Stellan helped him out of the car, and Caspian, Harry, and Elisa quickly ran out.
"Is Dad unwell again?" Caspian asked, very worried.
"I'm fine," Alaric gently pushed Caspian's hand away. "Go about your business. Your mom is here; that's enough." "How can we leave now?" Harry said anxiously. "We'll stay nearby and won't cause any trouble."
"You're helping by not being here," Stellan said. "Alright, go do your homework."
Harry was about to say something, but Caspian stopped him. "Forget it. Let Dad rest. I trust Mom can handle it."
"Alright then," Caspian agreed.
As Stellan helped Alaric back to the bedroom, Elisa was on the verge of tears. She looked at them and asked, "What's wrong with Dad?"
Elisa had always been unaware of Alaric's health issues. Seeing what had just happened and hearing Caspian and Harry's words, even she could tell it was serious.
"Don't
worry,
Elisa. Dad will be fine soon," Caspian quickly reassured her.
"Is Dad sick? Is it serious?" Elisa asked, frightened.
"Mom is a great doctor. She can cure any illness," Harry reassured her.
"Then it must be serious!" Elisa cried, "I love Dad. I don't want him to die. I don't wanna lose him."
Caspian immediately kicked Harry aside and scolded, "Is this how you comfort Elisa? Go away!"
Harry was angry but knew it wasn't the time to argue. He held back.
"It's not serious, Elisa. Don't worry," Caspian said, kissing her cheek to comfort her. "Alright, Elisa, don't cry. If you cry, Dad will feel worse." "Okay." Elisa nodded, holding back her tears.
After helping Alaric to the bedroom, Stellan quickly got his medication and gave it to him.
"How do you feel? Any better?" Stellan asked, still worried.
"Better," Alaric answered.
"Do you feel like you did before the last episode?" Stellan was genuinely scared. "If you do, we should go to the hospital just to be safe." The last time Alaric had an episode, his heart had stopped. This time could be even more dangerous.
Even though Stellan was a skilled doctor, she couldn't risk Alaric's life.
