Chapter Mommy 45

Although Eugene had been given the most expensive immune globulin, that didn’t mean it wasn’t toxic.

If Charlie stopped giving Eugene immune globulin, that meant Eugene was gonna have to spend the rest of his life in a sterile ward.

Seeing Charlie’s frustration, the doctor couldn’t help but say, “Mr. Franco, if I remember correctly, I heard from your assistant that you found a successful match last time. If everything is settled, the surgery can be scheduled.”

Kamryn realized at once that the doctor had just spoken of none other than herself. She frowned in embarrassment.

Charlie didn’t say anything. He just looked gently at Kamryn.

The doctor grew nervous. “Haven’t you got her consent yet?

Yes,” Charlie replied.

“That’s perfectly understandable. It seems like a lot to ask of a woman. But you know, a successful match is one in a million. If Eugene didn’t have such a rare blood type, it wouldn’t be so hard to find him a match.”

Charlie smiled. “I can’t force her anyway.

“Does that lady have a husband?”

Charlie glanced at Kamryn and replied, “She’s single.

“In that case, she shouldn’t have too much to worry about!”

Charlie remained silent.

The doctor asked again, “Can you find Eugene’s mother?”

“No. There’s no DNA match on file in the gene bank.”

The doctor asked incredulously, “What about the admission information? The woman who gave birth to Eugene must have left something behind at the hospital.”

Charlie replied, “Eugene’s mother was in a car accident and rushed to the hospital. It was an emergency. She was unconscious, so the hospital couldn’t record anything about her. And then we found that she was gone.”

Kamryn found it inexplicably strange.

“So that’s how Eugene was born!” Kamryn thought.

What happened to Eugene’s mother bore some resemblance to Kamryn.

Back then, Kamryn was also pregnant and involved in a car accident, but her baby was not as lucky as Eugene because he died at birth.

A sense of loss seized Kamryn. She looked at Charlie and began to sympathize with him.

Charlie had never forced Kamryn or demanded anything from her. Although Kamryn was so far the only one who could save Eugene, Charlie

wasn’t too hard on her.

However, the thought that such a lovely boy could die of a cold or fever at any moment made Kamryn’s breath quicken.

Kamryn put on a sterile suit as she finally got a chance to visit Eugene in the ward.

She texted the director and asked for leave. Because she decided to stay with Eugene, she put her work on the set on hold.

Even if she was going to lose her job, she was determined to stay by Eugene’s side at a critical time like this.

The doctor said Eugene was under observation.

Charlie went to the doctor’s office for a talk, while Kamryn stayed to look after Eugene.

Kamryn didn’t think she had ever looked so closely at Eugene’s face. Though they had seen each other often, now that she looked closely at his face, she was shocked to find some resemblance between his features and hers.

Eugene’s eyes and mouth looked pretty much like Kamryn’s when she was a child.

If anyone saw them, they would be convinced that they must be mother and son.

No wonder Kamryn felt so close to Eugene for no reason.

Kamryn stroked Eugene’s face and said softly through her thick mask, Eugene, you’ll get better. I’m waiting for you to grow up and marry me!”

Eugene, who was asleep, did not respond. His eyelids and cheeks were tinged with pink from the fever, making him look like a cute, charming elf.

Kamryn suddenly became determined at the thought of Eugene’s illness.

I swear I’ll never let anything happen to you!”

“Eugene’s not doing well. He’s made it this far, which is beyond my expectations, but we’d better schedule him for surgery.”

The doctor sighed heartily as he and Charlie walked to the sterile ward.

Ever since he had been in charge of Eugene’s treatment, every time he tried to resuscitate Eugene, he felt terrified.

After all those operations, he treated Eugene as his own child.

He was also anxious to see that Charlie found a match but could not reach an agreement with the other party.

“Fate matters. I’ll fight for it, but… I have to respect that lady’s opinion.”

As they spoke, they found themselves at the door of the sterile ward. Charlie looked up and saw Kamryn standing in the doorway with a hesitant look. Seeing them return, Kamryn became even more nervous. She blushed and looked as if she had something to say.

Charlie was worried when he saw Kamryn’s face. He glanced at the little boy in the hospital bed as the doctor entered the ward to check on him. Charlie was relieved to know that Eugene was all right.

Charlie asked confusedly, “Why are you standing here?

He had thought Eugene was getting worse.

Kamryn glanced at the doctor, ready to speak, but she seemed to have some misgivings. Suddenly, she tugged at Charlie’s sleeve and pulled him aside. “Can we go somewhere quiet? I want to talk to you alone.”

Charlie nodded and said, “Okay.”

He borrowed an office and closed the door. At that moment, they were the only ones in the office.

After a long silence, Kamryn finally broke the ice. “What did the doctor say about Eugene’s condition?”

The doctor urged me to schedule his operation as soon as possible.”

Are there any other matches besides me?”

“I’ve been working hard on that.”

After a pause, Charlie thought of something. “In fact, I checked your sister’s blood type after I was sure you were a match for Eugene.”

Can she do it?

Kamryn was surprised. “She’s married, and…”

Jenna had wanted to have Wyatt’s child, but she was unable to conceive. Kamryn didn’t know if there was anything wrong with them.

No!” Charlie blurted out.

“You’re right. She’s married. If…”

Charlie explained indifferently, “I mean, her blood type doesn’t match Eugene’s. She’s type O.”

What a jaw–dropping piece of news!

Kamryn looked at Charlie in disbelief. “You mean, Jenna has type O blood?”

Yes.

“That’s impossible. My father has type Rh–negative blood, and Jenna’s mother has type A blood. They can’t have a daughter with type O blood.”

Kamryn was suspicious. Are you sure?

Because Kamryn’s father had a rare Rh–negative blood type, she had dug deep into this blood type and knew that two people with type Rh–negative blood and type A blood could never have a child with type O blood.
