Chapter Chapter Twenty
[Jaxson’s POV]
After making slow gentle love to our Mate, we all fell asleep and stayed that way until we were woken up by a sudden alarm. One that filled the air outside and had everyone running. The entire Pack was moving in frantic motions that had me and Jace standing at attention in front of Orion.
When Orion had woken, he had jumped from the bed to rush to a corner trying to hide from whatever had woken him. Jace and I not far behind him. We were not afraid but we knew he would still need our touch to keep him somewhat calm. It was actually not normal for any of us to need to touch each other constantly. This was something that was supposed to have faded by now. At the beginning of the Mating process, it would be understandable but we had passed that. I think we had passed that. At least. We have been fully Mated to each other for a full week now and we have had more than enough time to work everything out between us.
Jace was standing guard over Orion while I stood guard over them both. Looking for what had caused that sound. I quickly realized that we were under attack and looked back to my twin. He would want to go fight with me but he needed to stay with Orion to keep him safe. That was his priority because Orion had no fighting skills at all and he was still too weak to learn. Jace and I were going to soon become the Alphas of this Pack but he would still need to protect the one thing we would always hold above everything else. Orion.
I needed to keep them both safe. I needed to make sure my Mates were more than safe. I was the Alpha, even between me and Jace. I was stronger willed between us and Jace always looked to me for any answers and this time was no different. I needed to be the one to make the decision here. I was the one that needed to keep them both more than safe, I needed to make sure they never saw what was going on.
Jace looked at me but his eyes were having trouble staying the same color as they flashed between their normal honey golden color to a green hazel that was so deep, I could get lost. He was fighting with Guren for control and it made me growl a little to get the Wolf under control so they didn’t tear each other apart from the inside. That was more than dangerous, especially for an Alpha, we had far more power than a normal Wolf, they were not Balanced right now and it was showing in their eyes as they fought for control.
I’ve never known this to happen. For an Alpha the need to protect our Mate is much greater than anyone else’s. However, it was nothing like this. It was like they were at odds with each other and I had never heard about this before. At least this was never in anything I ever read in the books on Mates. Jace and I had searched for many things in the vast libraries of our kind but always came up empty-handed in the search for the only information we had ever wanted. How to find our Mate across any distance.
When I growled out in anger, Guren and Lysander settled in our minds and allowed Jace and I to do this. They were going to be far too rough with our Omega Mate and he was still in a lot of pain. We needed to be cautious and find out what the fuck was going on. We had just pushed his little body last night and there was something going on that we needed to focus on. There was too much to handle right now and having our Wolves fight us was not going to help us.
‘Pop!!’ I called out on the Pack link. Knowing he would answer me with a report and not some stupid answer.
‘Rouges got inside the borders and are trying to reach the cells where all our prisoners are being held.’ pop growled out making both myself and Jace growl angrily. That meant Orion was now in danger.
Cilla and Justin were going to be escaping and we knew it. These Rouges had a plan for the prisoners and it didn’t matter who else got out. It was about distracting the entire Pack. Orion was in serious danger. “Jace stay with Orion. I am going to go make sure they stay right where they belong.” I said aloud, getting another growl from my twin. He wanted to do the same thing but he needed to say right where he was.
I knew he wanted to come with me, “Jace, if you come with me no one will be here to keep Orion safe. No one is in the house right now; Cassie ran out the moment the alarm went off. I need you to do this for all of us.” I said turning to kneel in front of Jace and Orion. “I need you safe just as much as I need Orion safe. Please don’t fight with me on this.” I said reaching out to touch both of their faces gently.
Jace nodded and I ran out the door. I was going to go fight to keep not only my Mates safe but my Pack as well and whoever had come into my Territory was about to regret their actions very dearly. I was beyond pissed off.
