Chapter Chapter Seventeen
[Jace’s POV]
Three days later
Jax had brought the Pack doctor to the house to look at Orion and all of his injuries resulting in Hayle putting him to sleep. Now we have been without out Mate for three fucking days and it’s starting to show in us both. Jax has been a lot more irritable and easily pissed off. I have put a wall up around myself practically pushing everyone else away because of all of this. I wanted my Mates back. Both of them.
I didn’t want anyone to get too close to me because Jax was already on edge. It was bad enough we hadn’t been able to protect Orion but now we that had him it would only get worse if anything happened to me. I was an Alpha in my own right yes, but Jax was a different type of Alpha. He has been bossing everyone around since we were kids and it just worked for him like he was a full-blown Alpha. Even without the given power. It was one of the many reasons why I bowed to him and submitted to my twin the way I did. He was my Alpha, the Alpha of Alphas.
Now that our Omega was in a medically induced coma to help him heal Jax was more than on edge. There were too many variables when it came to Orion’s care and it was putting us both on edge. Hayle had come to us about three hours after Jax had let him and his Mate, Sasha, into our bedroom. He had worn a very sad look on his face that held worry and fear. He had been terrified to tell us that he had to put Orion under so he could heal properly.
{Flashback}
Hayle came down the stairs slowly Sasha behind him, her hands shaking a little as her eyes searched for anything to look at but Jax and I. Something was wrong, I could feel it in my bones.
“What is the verdict Hayle?” Jax questioned as they reached the bottom of the stairs.
Hayle flinched and sighed, “Alpha Jaxson, I have good news and bad news.” he replied his head hung low.
“Just give us the report Hayle. I do not have the patience to deal with your bullshit today.” Jax said with a growl.
Mom and dad had come to stand in the kitchen doorway with Cassie hidden behind them. They wanted to hear the medical verdict as well, Cassie probably more so than our parents.
Hayle sighed again, “His left leg is healed nicely, little to no permanent damage will happen there. He will have some swelling and bruising because we had to rebreak it in some places. After closer examination, Sasha and I found that he had three pieces of his skull lodged in his brain, two were easily removed while the third cannot be removed without possible severe damage. There was a severe laceration to the left side of his skull that had cause the fractured pieces to lodge in his brain. They were affecting his cognitive abilities and his Wolf’s ability to fully heal the Human body. Now that two of those obstructions have been removed, he will be able to eat and heal normally. They were affecting his ability to taste and feel as well but once he has woken up the young Lunos should be much healthier.” Hayle said professionally at least as best he could with Jax and dad glaring at him angrily. He was almost visibly shaking in fear as he spoke.
That’s when I realized what he had said at the end of his little report. He had said when he wakes up. “What do you mean when he wakes up? I understand that he should sleep for a solid day for his body to heal but …” I began only to have my fears realized
“We have placed him in a medically induced coma for at least four days. The young Lunos must sleep and heal without being disturbed by anything or anyone.” Hayle said as he slowly backed away, still blocking Sasha from our view. He may be a Doctor but he was also a Beta and would protect his Mate if he needed too.
Jax growled harshly and went to move but Cassie suddenly appeared in front of us and between Hayle and Sasha. “You will both calm down and take a fucking step back!!” she snapped, her voice harsh and hard as stone. It caused us both to stop in our tracks.
“Move Cassie.” Jax growled, his voice almost echoing with a command.
“No, you need to think about what is best for Orion right now. You are being blinded by your rage and hatred. There is nothing we can do about how this all happened!!” she shouted; her words true but her voice faltering a little as I saw a tear slip down her stone face. “We can only help him now by letting him sleep and hurting the only doctors that have been able to actually get near him is not going to help him!!!” she exclaimed, standing her ground against her Alphas. She was going to stand up for what she thought was right no matter who it was against.
“You are being very … ” Jax began his words failing him, he was actually at a loss for words and I knew none of what he was thinking was nice so I decided to change his mind for him.
I knew Cassie was right. I hated that Orion was asleep like this but there was nothing we could do now but be there for him when he woke up. We were the ones everyone had to look up too and if we failed in this everyone wouldn’t trust us anymore.
“... very thoughtful. You are right Cassie, thank you for bringing us to our senses. Orion’s safety and health come first to us and if Hayle says it is best for him to stay asleep then we will agree with his decision.” I said pushing Jax a little to make him snap out of his anger mode. He needed to wake up.
{End of Flashback}
Yeah, that had been three days ago and I needed to see my little star.
No one but Hayle, Sasha and mom have been in to check on Orion for the past few days and it has had to stay that way. There was so many reasons I wanted to just burst into the room that held my Mate but I had to hold strong for not just myself and for Orion but for Jax too. He needed me to be strong for him during all of this because there was nothing, we could do but wait and that was not something Jax was very good with.
Jax and I were about to leave the guest room downstairs to go out for some training when the door to our bedroom burst open and our mom came running downstairs, a look of joy on her face. We rushed out to stop her from running into the kitchen, curiosity burning through us.
“Mom …” I began hoping beyond all hope that …
“Orion’s awake.” she said before hurrying off into the kitchen.
We followed right after her. We needed to know if we could go see him now. Guren was now fully alert and pacing and I knew Lysander was doing the same.
“Mom, what’s going on?” Jax asked as we watched her start pulling food from the fridge.
“The little thing is hungry, of course. Sasha and Hayle are doing some last-minute scans, nothing major just to make sure he is good to go, but he woke up about ten minutes ago. He was looking for you both and started crying when he couldn’t find you.” she explained as she hurried around the kitchen. “We quickly explained what had happened and that I would get him food and his Mates. Now that I have his food, it’s time for you to both come with me.” she ordered as she picked up a tray filled with all types of food and scurried out of the kitchen lightning quick.
We followed after her quickly not wanting to be away from Orion for another second. He was awake finally and he needed us. He was calling for us and we were going to be right there for him just like we had promised him.
