Chapter 1 The Divorce

At night, the curtains of the bedroom were tightly shut, and the air

was a bit suffocating.

Lying in bed, Harper was panting and her cheeks were flushed.

She was distracted because she smelled another woman’s

perfume on her husband. And he never used perfume.

Suddenly, her beautiful brows furrowed.

The man seemed to have sensed her distraction. Then he made

out with her like crazy.

After a long time, the man got up and went to the bathroom to

take a shower.

Harper was exhausted and she struggled to get up from the bed.

The sound of running water from the bathroom came to her ears.

The man was her nominal husband, Benjamin Martin.

They had been married for a year. Whenever he came to Harper,

he would have sex with her and take a shower after that. Then

he would leave her with a cold face, avoiding any unnecessary

conversations.

But lately, he seems to be less cold to her and more gently in bed. She wondered if a year of tenderness had finally warmed his

heart.

Harper got out of bed and picked up the shirt that Benjamin had thrown on the ground. She wanted to hang it up for him so that it

wouldn’t have wrinkles.

Benjamin was indifferent, picky, and temperamental. She had always been careful when dealing with him.

When she picked up the shirt, her slender fingers paused.

As her gaze fell on the collar of his shirt, she saw a lip print on it. The next second, she widened her eyes in shock.

Subconsciously, she picked up his shirt and sniffed it. As

expected, she smelled the perfume that did not belong to him

again.

After a moment of silence, Harper slowly sat back down by the bed, realizing that Benjamin cheated on her.

More than ten minutes later, the sound of water gradually

stopped.

Benjamin came out of the bathroom. He had a white bath towel wrapped around his waist, making him extremely sexy.

His wet black hair kept sliding down and beads of water dripped

His eyes held a chilling gaze, like deep, unfathomable pools, adding a touch of aloof sophistication to his appearance.

Harper looked away.

To her surprise, he didn’t leave tonight as usual. Harper couldn’t

help but wonder why.

Benjamin glanced at her coldly and pointed to the contraceptive pills beside the bed, uttering, “Take them.”

Harper held the pills in her hand, raised her head, and swallowed

them.

He didn’t trust her. He had to see her take the pills with his own eyes every time they finished having sex.

The whole time, Benjamin was expressionless. Then he turned around and took out a document, demanding in a voice as cold as ice, “Sign it. What other conditions do you have?”

Harper was stunned, completely unaware of that the paper was

for.

She reached out her hand and took the agreement with trembling

It turned out that he stayed a bit longer not because he missed her, but because he wanted to divorce her.

“Ha, ha.” Harper laughed.

Harper knew that such a day would come, but she didn’t expect it

They had been married for a year, during which she was a devoted wife. Every day, she treated Benjamin with love and care, trying every way to make that cold man fall for her. a year had passed, however, her efforts were still in vain.

Benjamin didn’t tell Harper why he wanted a divorce. Instead, he just notified her of it.

“May I ask why you want a divorce?” Harper raised her head and looked at Benjamin, who was putting on his clothes.

“Lauren’s awake, and I need to keep my promise to her,” Benjamin replied coldly as he lit a cigarette.

Harper, pale and desperate, pressed on, “Is divorce our only

option?”

“We married for a reason, Harper. I’ve already disappointed

Lauren once, I can’t do it again,” he said, cutting off any further

discussion.

Harper saw a softness in his eyes when he spoke of Lauren,

feeling a pang of envy.

It was clear he only had feelings for Lauren Davis, not her.

After a thoughtful pause, Harper calmly said, “Okay.”

Her soft tone made him frown briefly.

I won’t treat you badly in terms of money. This villa belongs to you. I’ll give you 100 million dollars at a time, and…”

divorce papers. Without reading them, she picked a pen from the counter and signed her name.

She did it all decisively.

Harper was heartbroken. She had secretly loved Benjamin for a decade, but he never knew.

Struggling to hold back tears, she remembered how he had

cared for her during their year of marriage, making her mistakenly believe he loved her back.

However, she knew he had always loved Lauren.

“It was you who wanted the divorce,” Harper replied, feeling defeated yet trying to defend herself. “And now that it’s happening, will you still meddle in my life?”

She forced a smile, her heart aching, thinking, “Do you know that this will make me misunderstand that you can’t bear to let me

go?”

Unable to meet his eyes, she asked, “Or does it mean you don’t love Lauren and you’ve fallen for me instead?”
