Connie had never met anyone as thoughtful and handsome as Caleb. She happily drank the smoothie he had bought for her.
She was vaguely aware that Caleb was only treating her so well because Clarissa was her cousin. Although he had gotten over his feelings and gave up on trying to date Clarissa, he still loved her and treated her family members well.
"I'm in a bad mood today. I've finished filming here at the University of Florin. There's a new project called Female Emperor, but I lost the leading role. I don't want a supporting role, but it's such a big ticket project. It'll definitely become a blockbuster," Connie said.
She said she didn't want a supporting role as if she had been offered one in the first place.
"Life is full of ups and downs. Only with ups and downs can a life be called a life. If everything goes well, there is no meaning." Caleb thought of how he had tried to woo Clarissa but was rejected. Even until now, he still felt strongly about it and was still hung up over the awkwardness of not having known that Damien Lawrence was Clarissa's ex-husband.
Connie was pleased. "You're so right!"
Her eyes curved into half-moons.
Coincidentally, Lily brought her son Eric over.
She spotted Connie at a glance. 'Why is Connie here at Clarissa's university?' Since Clarissa had asked her to come over, Lily had gotten up early in the morning. Since Clarissa hadn't contacted her yet, Lily could only take Eric aimlessly around campus.
She never expected she would bump into Connie, of all people.
Connie didn't notice Lily there as she was too happy chatting with Caleb.
The two walked right past Lily.
Last night when Clarissa had messaged Lily, it was already past one in the morning. Lily supposed that Clarissa had slept late, which was why the latter hadn't called in the morning before she and Eric came
over.
It was soon past ten o'clock, and Clarissa had yet to contact Lily. Thus, Lily decided to give Clarissa a call.
"Clarissa, where are you?" she asked.
Blearily, Clarissa answered, "Have you arrived?"
"Yes, I'm on your campus. Hurry up and get over here. Buy me lunch!" Lily said.
"Then, you should..." Clarissa began as she fussed with her hair. "There's a huge garden at the university, have you seen it? Can you wait for me there?" "How long will you take?"
"Just wait for a bit," Clarissa said. "Take a walk around campus first. I might take some time to get over there."
"Where did you run off to?"
"I'll tell you later."
After hanging up, Lily received a Whatsapp message from Landon.
Landon: [I heard Mr. Lawrence is in Florin too. Tell Mr. Lawrence when Clarissa's buying you a meal. Let them be together.]
Lily: [Sure.]
Lily stood in the garden on campus and texted Damien.
Lily: [Mr. Lawrence, I heard from Landon that you're currently in Florin. I'm here too right now. I think Clarissa will be buying me lunch. If you have time, you should join us.]
Lily was no longer Damien's employee, so there was no reason to be so scared of him. As such, she was more casual with him now.
Damien didn't reply.
After hanging up, Clarissa rushed back to campus.
At the university garden, she spotted Eric and Lily.
It was probably because she had become a mother herself, but Clarissa felt warm on the inside whenever she saw children of a similar age to Neil.
"Hi, Aunt Clary!" Eric was smiling so widely, his eyes were nearly closed.
"Hello, Eric. What a good boy you are! I'm so glad." Clarissa had nearly forgotten that this boy was her godson.
"Right, Clarissa. Landon said that Mr. Lawrence is currently in Florin. Let's treat him to lunch too. After all, he used to be my superior," Lily said.
Clarissa's expression immediately turned dark.
"What for? Isn't it better with just us friends?"
"Landon asked me to do it. I rarely come all the way to Florin, anyway. Isn't this just courtesy? Our family still depends on him for a living." Lily was nearly begging Clarissa now.
"Alright." Hearing that she had to buy Damien lunch, Clarissa was a bit displeased. She felt having Damien there would only give her discomfort.
But because of Lily and Landon's future, she could only text Damien.
