Love in Twilight novel (Clarissa and Damien)

Chapter 454 I Give Up

When Caleb got back to the University of Florin, he started running around the field mechanically.

Clarissa, Damien, and everyone else had known about this. They had all watched him make a fool of himself.

He could still remember the first time he saw Clarissa. It was before the semester started. She had been wearing a long dress, and her fair skin had gleamed under the sun. She had been standing before the university's entrance, and that scene had taken his breath away.

Clarissa...

Caleb had fallen in love with her at first sight.

He had finally fallen for someone, but it was a person that he couldn't have!

It wasn't that he was bothered by the fact that she had been married and had a child. What he minded was that her ex-husband was Damien. He and Damien got along very well, but Damien hadn't mentioned a word about this. Perhaps he had done so because he wanted Mrs. Faber to take care of it.

Just as he was thinking about all this, his phone chimed. It was a WhatsApp message from his mother.

Mrs. Faber: [Be a good boy and listen to me. Clarissa belongs with Mr. Lawrence, so don't stick your nose into their business. I know how they both feel about this, and it's only appropriate for me to handle this Forget about Clarissa, okay? There are plenty of wonderful women in this world. Do you think you're any match for Mr. Lawrence?]

Caleb flung his phone aside and continued running.

He didn't know how many rounds he ran. When he finally ran out of energy, he sat down and tried to catch his breath, drenched in sweat.

Someone handed him a bottle of water.

Caleb looked up. Connie stood there.

She had just finished filming a night scene and was about to leave when she saw Caleb running around the field.

"Connie." He glanced at her.

"I think you must've done at least fifty rounds." She sat down next to him.

"I don't know, I didn't count. I just felt like I had boundless energy." He drank the water, still panting. "You knew about this, didn't you?" "Knew about what?"

"That Clarissa's ex-husband is Damien. You're her cousin, aren't you?"

"Uh, I did know about it, but it was so long ago. No one would be insensitive enough to mention Clarissa's ex-husband if they knew someone was pursuing her, right?" Connie came up with an excuse. Caleb didn't say anything else.

Connie couldn't help feeling pleased. She wasn't the one who'd told Caleb about this-he had found out on his own.

She wanted to see how Iris was going to continue with her plan.

"Are you still going to chase after her?" Connie asked.

"No, I give up. Continuing to pursue her would only make things difficult for her and my mom. I originally thought she was holding out because she was demure, but I was wrong." He stared into the distance, and then smiled bitterly. "I wouldn't have succeeded, anyway. She already has a kid."

Caleb's words changed Connie's impression of him.

He was giving up because he didn't want to make things hard for Clarissa and his mother.

The two of them sat there, and Connie thought about how she stood a chance now that Caleb had given up on Clarissa. As for splitting Damien and Clarissa up, Iris was on her own. Anyway, she wasn't to blame for this. Caleb's mother was the one who had interfered, and Clarissa was the one who had wanted to see Caleb's mother.

"You mentioned that she's your lecturer, right? She already has a child, and that's going to link her to her ex-husband forever. She's already given half of her heart to Damien. Even if you did manage to win her over, she'd only be able to give you the remaining half. You're such a good guy that I feel bad for you," Connie said, feigning sympathy.

Caleb merely stared into the distance, the bottle of water clutched in his hands.
