Chapter 1279 Extra Story 34 Of Edgar Force Her To Admit
While Edgar was lost in his thoughts, Maggie was standing in the hallway, absently looking out of a window. Staring at the flag hanging from the flagpole at the parade ground, she shrugged her shoulders to relieve some tensions there. As far as she was concerned, she
didn't really care about the age gap between Edgar and herself. However, what about Edgar, what if he cared?
Struggling to figure out this problem, Maggie no longer cared so much about his moral issues. She started puzzling at the problem in her mind, blocking out the world around her, 'True love... should never bow to the age issue.'
"But it will... generate a big gap between us.
Won't it?" Maggie answered her own question out loud in a quiet tone. Then she started to think further. However, after a second, Maggie felt a presence nearby and opened her eyes wide. She turned her head stiffly and saw Tompson had come out of nowhere and was now standing next to her. She sighed and complained, "Tompson, don't you know that it's rude to eavesdrop on others?" Maggie gnashed her teeth, trying to calm down and stop herself from punching him in his annoying face.
Looking around, Tompson responded, "This is a public area. Besides, I didn't eavesdrop on you, I just stood here... Wait! Maggie, a gentleman uses his mouth and not his fists."
"I am not a gentleman, I am a lady!" As he spoke, Maggie had launched into a spinning kick at him. She attacked him viciously, seeing him as her enemy and the embodiment of her frustrations.
Tompson kept dodging and didn't plan to fight back. He had always been excellent at fighting since childhood, so it was hard for Maggie to hurt him, even though she had obtained a black belt in Taekwondo.
After attacking with all her strength for a while, Maggie finally got exhausted. She panted for breath and said, "What? I haven't seen you for years and now you've become a coward?"
"A good man like me would never fight against women," Tompson argued. He then sneered, "Maggie, can't you at least try to grow up and be maturer? Can't you just stop thinking about him? He is not the most important thing in your life. How can you not see that this makes you unworthy of your father and your post in the army?"
After being criticized so harshly by Tompson, Maggie felt such anguish that she almost burst out crying. What was wrong with falling in love with someone who was twelve years older than herself? Was she hurting anyone by following her heart's desire?
"I would have loved Claire instead of you if I were Edgar. Look at you! What would be the point of marrying you? To raise you as your father?" Tompson relentlessly harassed her. He was known for his harsh words, especially when it came to Maggie. They had been fighting against each other since childhood. "So now you are going to cry because of my harsh words?" he taunted.
Maggie forced herself not to cry in front of him, instead she got furious and she yelled at him, "Tompson, are you done criticizing me?" She stared at him, her childhood nemesis, while grinding her teeth until her jaw ached. She was more than ready to attack him again. He smiled and responded coldly, "What? Are you pissed off because you know that I am telling the truth?" After a brief pause, Tompson raised his head, glancing around, and saw Edgar who was leaning against the door. Tompson then asked asked Maggie with an evil smirk, "Aren't you... in love with Captain Edgar?"
"Of course not! I could never love such an old man with moral issues," Maggie disagreed vehemently. She had always been merciless when it came to Tompson. In normal terms, they were just like the characters in a love story who had a love-hate relationship. However, in reality, they were the opposite. There was only hate between them, and not much love.
Tompson started to laugh, in an evil way. It was so evil that Maggie noticed something was wrong. She turned around instinctively, finding Edgar standing at the door. Edgar was unable to stand firmly because of his wound, however, he refused the offered help from the guards who were by his side.
Maggie's mouth pulled into a bitter twist, and turning back to Tompson, she grated at him, "You are such a devil!"
"Well, it seems like you do like him." He spoke quietly now so that Edgar would not hear them from where he was standing. Besides the damage was already done.
Maggie's lips narrowed even further. If she had to choose her ultimate nemesis in her life, it would definitely have to be Tompson. He just knew all her vulnerabilities. Maggie couldn't help groaning on the inside.
She looked at Tompson and decided not to speak to him any further, or she would surely be driven mad! Turning around, she went to Edgar, pretending that nothing had happened. She smiled at him, "Captain, what are you doing here? You should be in bed! You can call me for help if you need anything." Maggie stepped forward, trying to help him while speaking.
"I did, but no one answered!" Edgar responded coldly. While Maggie was about to reach for him, he abruptly turned around and limped back to bed, evidently in pain.
Maggie bit her lips and whined, "Even though I wasn't there just now, we still have two guards there, don't we? Besides, it's you who said that you didn't need me because you have doctors and guards here for help."
"What did you say?" Edgar had managed to pull himself back into the bed and slightly out of breath, he spoke in a stern tone.
Maggie shook her head and answered with a stiff smile, "Nothing! I didn't say anything. So Captain, is there anything else I can help you with? Water? Or food?"
Edgar's face turned red upon hearing what Maggie just said. Then he thought of what Maggie had said to Tompson and he got even more annoyed.
Suddenly, all the strength in his body seemed to leave him as he lay in bed feebly, while Maggie looked like him as a patient and not her captain. ☐☐
