Lost In Love’s Web by Norton Daniel

Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Not long after, Belen returned, putting on a pitiful act as she sat beside Winston. Her demeanor in the restroom was completely different; under the candlelight, she appeared innocent and fragile, seemingly in need of constant care and protection.

Observing this, Eileen felt a wave of nausea rush over her. She lost her appetite and just. sipped water from her glass.

“Ms. Norman, would you like to try this newly served truffle veal steak?” Terrell offered her a plate.

Eileen smiled gratefully. “Thank you.”

After dinner, during the half-hour social segment of the banquet, Eileen held a glass of red wine. She seemed to be the only one without a companion tonight. She went to the balcony to gaze at the opulent night view spread out like a golden carpet below. In this society intoxicated with wealth, people often lost their sense of direction.

“Why are you here?” A deep male voice suddenly spoke from behind her.

Without turning, Eileen knew who it was. She lazily chuckled. “What, do I need to report my attendance at such events to you?”

“What is your relationship with Mathew?”

Eileen turned in surprise to face the charismatic man holding a glass of wine. She frowned while asking, “You know Mathew?”

“Yes,” Winston answered tersely.

Eileen wasn’t surprised. Mathew being invited to such an event indicated his status in wealthy circles, and it wasn’t unusual for the elite to be acquainted with each other.

“You haven’t answered my question. What’s your relationship with Mathew?” He continued to press her.

Eileen took a sip of her wine. “Why should I tell you?”

With that, she walked away, ignoring him. Just the fact that he was Belen’s boyfriend was enough to make her dislike him.

Under the balcony lights, the man’s eyes narrowed slightly, casting a shadow across his handsome face that betrayed his displeasure.

Meanwhile, Belen was chatting with a socialite in the crowd. She saw Eileen coming from the balcony and knew that Winston had been there too, which ignited wild

jealousy within her.

She thought, ‘Is Eileen trying to seduce Winston?”

Belen caught sight of Winston returning from the balcony and, with a scheming look in her eyes, approached Eileen.

Eileen, busy fending off several men trying to toast with her, turned around and bumped into Belen.

“Eileen, let me offer you a toast. I was wrong to cause trouble at the company last time.” Belen apologized again.

Eileen inwardly sneered, seeing right through Belen’s sincerity, or lack thereof.

Not interested in engaging with her, she was about to leave when Belen suddenly grabbed her hand holding the wine glass. Before she could react, she was forced to spill the red wine all over Belen’s evening gown.

“Aah…” Belen cried out in alarm.

Winston quickly approached, and Belen skillfully retreated two steps into his arms. “Eileen, how could you do this to me?”

She lamented, her gown now completely stained with wine.

Eileen, holding her glass, froze for a few seconds, watching Belen’s perfect act of playing the innocent victim. She felt like awarding Belen the Oscar for Best Actress.

“Eileen, I know it was wrong of me to complain about you, but you can’t treat me like this…” Belen’s eyes brimmed with tears of grievance, making her look particularly. pitiable.

Everyone attending the banquet, prominent figures of the city, looked at Belen with sympathy, casting reproachful glances at Eileen as if they despised her for such a wine- throwing act.

“Ms. Norman, apologize!” demanded Winston, his handsome face icy, clearly angry.

Eileen glared at him, thinking, ‘Does he not grasp the situation? It was Belen who grabbed my hand and intentionally made me spill the wine, and now he expects me to apologize?’

“Why should I apologize?” she retorted, her chin lifted slightly, her bright eyes defiant.

“Forget it, Winston, I’m fine… I’ll just change my clothes.” Belen turned around, holding back a look of aggrieved resignation, magnanimously saying, “I forgive her.”

Eileen clenched her fists, and replied, “I don’t need your forgiveness.”

“Eileen, I said apologize.” Winston’s eyes turned as cold as an icy abyss, his usually composed demeanor showing visible signs of anger.

Eileen’s eyes met Winston’s, a cold laugh escaping her. “Fine, I’ll apologize, but she has to kneel down to hear it.”

A triumphant, scheming smirk flashed in Belen’s eyes. Having known Eileen since elementary through high school, she understood her character well.

Eileen was someone who would never bow her head.

Her plan was to infuriate Eileen in front of Winston, to showcase her stubborn and unreasonable nature.

“You…” Winston’s eyes flashed with anger, his icy gaze shooting over in an instant.

“Winston, it’s really not her fault. I was careless, it’s okay… Don’t blame Eileen anymore.” Belen pleaded, biting her l*p and tugging at his sleeve, making a show of swallowing all her grievances.

Eileen truly wanted to lash out and punch Belen.

“Ms. Lawrence, we have prepared a clean evening gown for you. Please come with me,” a female manager said gently.

Belen nodded and followed her.

Eileen, feeling the judgmental glances coming from the people around her, bit her l*p and decided to endure it. She hadn’t yet seen the jewelry she came for and didn’t plan on leaving.

“Come with me.” The next second, Eileen’s arm was forcefully grabbed by Winston, who pulled her into a nearby private room.

“Winston, let go of me.” Eileen tried to break free, but his grip was too strong.

Once in the private room, he finally released her. Eileen, arms crossed, glared at the domineering man in front of her, asking, “What do

you want?”

“Do you know the status of the people in attendance tonight? A simple apology from you could’ve solved everything, but you had to let everyone see you as a joke!” Winston said coldly, his tone full of reproach.

Eileen, filled with righteous indignation, retorted, “Why should I apologize? What can you do about it?” Belen was his girlfriend, and no matter how Eileen explained it, right or wrong, he would always side with her.

So what was the point in explaining?

“Eileen, even though your mother died young, didn’t you learn basic decency? Being so unreasonable and obstinate…” Winston seemed inexplicably frustrated.

Why couldn’t this woman just be a bit more compliant and avoid trouble?

Eileen looked defiantly at this man, who was unnecessarily worrying about her. “What does what kind of person I am have to do with you, Winston? I’m not marrying you, so even if I cause a huge mess, it’s none of your business.”

Having said her piece, she tried to leave, only to have her arm grabbed again. The next. second, both her arms were pinned against the wall by him, his brooding face just inches away from hers.
