His Ex wife is a billionaire Chapter 635
Chapter 635
At that moment, confronted with Jeff’s accusations, Matthew suddenly realized he had shot himself in the foot!
From a young age, he had coddled Byron, nurturing him into a loyal lapdog primed to do his bidding. But it never crossed his mind that Avery could turn this to his advantage!
Byron’s death had made him the fall guy.
Jeff, unable to avenge his son’s death, unloaded all his fury onto Matthew, pinning on him this baseless charge!
“Dad, let’s talk this out calmly, getting worked up is bad for your health.”
Avery quickly stepped forward, guiding Jeff to sit on the couch, and calmly explained to Matthew, “Matthew, you’ve got it all wrong. I did look into that plot of land, but I didn’t tell you because I was worried you’d think I was meddling in your project, trying to sabotage you. You already don’t trust me, and I didn’t want to deepen that misunderstanding. Now that it’s just us brothers left, I didn’t want to add to the chill between us.”
Such a noble excuse!
With just a few words, Avery had cast himself as the kindhearted and unfortunate younger brother, thinking of the bigger picture. And made Matthew out to be a petty, self–sabotaging fool!
“Good boy, I appreciate your intentions,” Jeff said, patting his younger son’s shoulder, then turned to Matthew with a glare that could shred him to pieces, “Matthew, I’m giving you one last chance! I’ve managed to control the domestic media storm for you, but you better clean up this international mess! If this affects the Chambers Group’s business as usual, then you’ll resign immediately and step down from your CEO throne!”
As Avery gently patted their father’s back, a sinister smile barely showed at the corner of his l*ps.
Matthew knew this might be his last chance and clenched his teeth in determination, “I’ve tried to buy off those villagers, and so far no one has died. The situation won’t escalate further, I promise!”
Suddenly, the urgent pounding on the door rang out.
“Come in!”
At Jeff’s command, the secretary rushed in, panic–stricken, “Mr. Jeff! You have to see World Wonders Weekly! There’s been a huge incident!”
The Chambers family’s faces turned ashen as they switched the TV to the news channel.
At that moment, World Wonders Weekly was airing a report on the Chambers Group’s resort project, which involved forcefully demolishing a Country T heritage village and causing serious injuries to its residents!
The news covered the incident extensively, complete with pictures and evidence, catching the Chambers Group completely off guard!
“What the hell is this?” Jeff pointed at the TV screen, exploding with rage!
Matthew’s face drained of color, and even with all his experience, his mind went blank!
Meanwhile, all four of their phones began to ring-
[The Chambers Group’s short–lived quiet was shattered by a new online storm!]
[Might as well cancel the Chambers Group from this world! A bunch of good–for–nothings, all of them!]
[Don’t be so harsh, Mr. Avery seems like a decent guy.]
[The Chambers Group’s only good man left is Mr. Avery. I hope he takes over!]
[Is there a way to petition for this? I support Mr. Avery for the top spot! A good man with handsome looks, he could rival Mr. Thaddeus!]
[They dare to do demolitions overseas? Aren’t foreign lives worth anything? Even the Fairhaven Group with its mob roots doesn’t stoop as low as the Chambers family!]
Jeff’s vision darkened and his b*dy,started shaking uncontrollably!
His mood was like doing sit–ups in an ICU!
“Useless. Matthew, you’re absolutely useless!”
Matthew saw the overwhelming public support for Avery and in desperation nearly smashed his phone, “Avery, was it you? You

leaked the information!”
“Matthew, can you think clearly at a time like this?”
Avery shook his head with a scoff, “What benefit do I get from leaking this? What good does it do for the Chambers Group? Just to screw you’over? That’s cutting off our nose to spite our face. Besides, do I need to screw you over? You screw yourself over well enough.”
Matthew was livid, “Avery! You lowlife scoundrel!”
Behind his refined glasses, Avery’s eyes flashed with a cold, predatory smirk.
Out of Jeff’s sight, his claws were out, ready to provoke and attack.
Jeff, holding his head, looked conflicted, “Who has the guts.”
“World Wonders Weekly is owned by the K Group. This media isn’t just backed by K investments but also foreign capital. We can’t control them, which is why they dare to expose this despite your pressure,” Avery promptly clarified.
Jeff’s last bit of doubt about his son vanished as he glared red–faced, “Emeric, after all, I saved your life, we were brothers for thirty years. And for such a trifle, you’d go against me like this! It’s outrageous!”
Avery whispered, “Dad, as far as I know, Chairman Emeric has been sick and even unconscious for several days. He probably didn’t have the time to deal with this. This must be the work of Cassius. After all, he’s the one who transferred the land to Matthew. He probably planned this whole thing from the start.”
He knew it was Evadne’s doing.
But still harboring the dream of marrying her openly, he hoped to maintain Evadne’s good image in front of Jeff.
“Cassius!”
Jeff, dizzy with anger, slammed his fist on the coffee table, “Just wait! The Ashbourne family, all of you wait! I’m not done with you!”
“Dad, take a deep breath. Right now, we’ve got a mess to clean up.”
“Avery, what’s your take on how to handle this situation?” Jeff’s face was a canvas of disappointment when he looked at his eldest son.
He couldn’t even bear to look at him, instead speaking only while holding his younger son’s hand.
“I think you should give Matthew another shot.”
It was then that Avery spoke up in defense of Matthew, “After all, Matthew is the CEO of the Chambers Group. If he steps up and handles this crisis, he could re–establish his clout within the company. So, I say trust him one more time.”
The Velvet Haven was bustling as usual that night..
Avery lounged on a plush burgundy velvet couch, sipping a glass of red wine and watching some of Elmsworth’s power players drown in a sea of indulgence, their descent into debauchery a spectacle he observed with a contented squint.
“Mr. Chambers, once you take over the Chambers Group, these people will be the jewels in your crown, the wind beneath your wings,” Elsie murmured as she massaged his shoulders, while Harvey stood beside, beaming with ingratiating pleasure.
Avery let out a snort, “After all the investment, it’s time to start seeing some returns.”
“Forgive my foolishness, but there’s one thing I can’t wrap my head around. Why would you stand up for Matthew at such a critical moment?” Harvey was genuinely puzzled. “If you stepped in and handled the trouble with Country T, couldn’t you just knock Matthew out of the game and take the throne?”
Avery shook his head slightly, “Jeff’s more suspicious than a Shakespearean king. If I appear too eager, he’ll just suspect my motives. But if I step back and leave the stage to Matthew, he’ll see me as stable, with a sense of the bigger picture.”
“But what if Matthew resolves the issue?” Harvey asked.
“Do you really think I’d let him succeed?”
Avery crossed his legs elegantly, swirled his wine, and a sly smile spread across his l*ps, “Since the Ashbourne family has escalated things, I might as well fan the flames, let it burn out of control. Get our people in Country T to find a chance to visit that hospital caring for the injured/You know what to do, right?”
Harvey nodded vigorously, finally understanding, “Yes, got it.”
Elsie’s hands trembled at the realization!
She knew another bloodbath was about to begin.

The thought of innocent people dying for these capitalists‘ power games made her feel suffocated, a wave of nausea rising from deep within her chest.
“If I’m to replace him, Matthew must be utterly defeated, or Jeff will never give up on him. Got it?”
Harvey looked at him with admiration, “Mr. Chambers, you’re just one step away.”
“Yeah, just one step.”
Avery suddenly grasped Elsie’s hand and pulled her close, his inebriated gaze locking onto her surprised face.
Wine spilled as his cold fingers traced her cheek, and she felt the icy blade of his touch.
“Evadne, do you have any idea how hard it’s been to get to where I am today?”
“Mr. Chambers, you’re drunk,” Elsie said, turning her face away.
Avery’s hot palm slid up her skirt, and with his other hand, he easily unclasped her delicate dress, “Everything I’ve done has all been for you. I’ve poured everything into becoming a man worthy of you. Evadne, look at me, please just look at me.”
“Mr. Chambers, see clearly. I am not Evadne!”
Elsie’s eyes filled with tears as she mustered the courage to break free from his embrace!
She clutched her chest, preventing her undergarment from sl*pping down, and stumbled backward,
Harvey, who was about to leave, stopped dead in his tracks, shocked and sweating bullets for Elsie!
He couldn’t believe that Elsie, groomed as a stand–in by Chambers, would dare to defy the man who dominated The Velvet
Haven!
Avery’s gaze darkened, first with suspicion, but then it faded.
Today, he was in a good mood.
So he took Elsie’s resistance as coy flirting, a little defiance.
Occasionally indulging in such games, he had no intention of delving into the genuine thoughts of a counterfeit.
“Harvey, the medication we sent to Chairman Emeric must be running low.”
Avery leaned back casually, adjusting his tie, “It’s about time to check in on Sir for a refill.”
