His Destructive, Toxic Love

Chapter 213

Hearing Caroline's voice, Eliza finally opened her tired eyes and struggled to sit up. "Sis."

"Don't get up. Just stay put," Caroline said, helping her lay back down and pulling up a chair to sit by the bed. "Casper called me to look after you. He just admitted his mistakes to me, crying his eyes out, saying he was wrong."

Eliza didn't believe it. Casper was not the type to admit his mistakes. For more than two years she had been with him, and she had never seen him admit he was wrong. Even to his own mother, it seemed he had never lowered his head. He had admitted his mistake? She scoffed and shook her head. "Sis, even if he admits ten thousand mistakes, it won't bring back our baby."

"When did this happen?" Caroline grabbed Eliza's cold hand, looking at her with pity. "Why didn't you tell Casper you were pregnant? Actually, he was really hoping you two could have a child."

Casper hoped she would bear his child? No way. He wouldn't like it if she got pregnant. Even if he liked children, it would only be the ones Nova had.

"Sis, he's getting engaged to Nova," Eliza murmured, her eyelashes drooping slightly, losing their shine. "Even so, he won't let me go. What should I do?"

Eliza presented Caroline with her tough predicament. Casper was not one to be easily persuaded. Moreover, he always did things his way, without letting others have a say. When Eliza first married into the Welton family, she was cheerful, sunny, always wearing a radiant smile. Somewhere along the line, she became like this, her face full of sorrow. Despite her beauty and sweet smile, marriage had tormented her into a shadow of her former self. The Welton family had its responsibilities, but Casper's were greater.

"I'll talk to him again. I'll also have Mom talk to him. If there's no love between you two, being together only adds to the pain."

"Sis, I want to leave," Eliza said with a bitter smile, looking apologetic yet somewhat sorrowful.

Caroline's heart clenched. She held Eliza's hand even tighter. "Leave? To where? Please don't do anything foolish."

"Casper won't let me go. He loves Nova so much, and he wants to annihilate the Pinotti family. If I die, only Robin will be left in the Pinotti family, and Casper'll get his wish." To Eliza, faking her death didn't matter anymore and she wouldn't mind if she died for real because she had lost her baby. Life held no hope, like a day that never sees the sun.

"How can you think like that? Casper is just... he's lost his way. He probably doesn't even realize what he's doing. I'll talk to him, and ask him to divorce you, okay?"

Caroline's heart ached. Why did marriage have to become a woman's prison and an inescapable calamity? Was it just because of lack of love? Eliza smiled, a smile more bitter than coffee.

After staying with Eliza for a while, and ensuring that she had fallen asleep, Caroline prepared to leave. At the end of the long hospital

corridor, the dim light shone on net

Caroline's face, adding a touch of melancholy to her gentle features. She quietly took out her phone and dialed Casper's number.

"I'm about to head back. Can you come to the hospital and keep Eliza company?" Her voice carried a hint of pleading and exhaustion.

On the other end, Casper's voice was as cold as ice. "I have some things to deal with here. I'll send Dillon to take care of her."

Hearing his indifferent tone, Caroline's anger flared, and she couldn't help but snap. "Is Dillon Eliza's husband? Casper, if you really treat Eliza this way, you'll regret it one day." Casper was unmoved on the phone. "Is there anything else?"

"You... you're beyond redemption."

Caroline felt a wave of helplessness. Casper's indifference was chilling.
