First Eclipse

Chapter 39

Fauna sat on the doorstep and looked down the hill. She wondered if he had a small boat. The idea of floating around the little lake was appealing. Closing her eyes, she tried to see if she could sense anything that she hadn't before the blood exchange. Maybe she should have asked how it worked because she didn't feel anything that wasn't her own.

Her phone pinging had her jump. She grabbed it out of her pocket and looked. It was a message from Karma. Patch into the group call thing. Jeri has and you get to hear what they're doing! Smiling, she text back, okay. She'd forgotten about that.

Opening the screen, she taped the icon and hit connect. As soon as the symbol changed, she tapped mute so she wouldn't be heard if she made some comment.

"Emil, take Felix and cover that hall."

"This is a big building. We're going to have to split up to cover it all."

Fauna stared at the phone. Tim said locations, but she hadn't thought to ask where. In the back of her mind, she figured a cave or camp.

"Autumn, you, Daxx, and Tor check the back of the building. Tor, use that invisibility as needed." It sounded like Prince Michael. "An invisible blocker. Nice."

Fauna smiled at Daxx's enthusiasm.

"All of you proceed with care." It was Prince Victor. There was no mistaking that emotionless voice. "And protect Troy."

"You just look after the building you have and watch Chase. He's a little out of shape."

She blinked. That was King Troy.

"I assure you, I am in perfect shape as always, brother king."

"Tim and I have Troy." Prince Leone said. "We're taking the upper floor. We need one of all exits coming down in case anyone gets by us." "Less talk, more action." It was Daxx.

"What she said." It was Autumn.

"Rea, what do you see?" Princess Bethany asked quietly.

"There are very faint traces of green on the first floor." "Be careful, babe."

Fauna scowled, trying to figure out which male said that.

"You just watch your back." It was Paisley. "One hair gets harmed, and I'll spend my last breath stopping the one's heart that caused it." Someone chuckled.

Fauna shook her head. It wasn't like what she thought it would be.

"Movement on the second floor." Prince Rafael said in an all-business tone.

She heard what sounded like metal colliding and lifted the phone closer to her face as if it were going to let her see what was happening. "Jackpot." Prince Leone whispered. "Might need more help up here."

"Coming to you." Prince Quinton barked through the call.

Fauna realized they must have left their mics unmuted because she could hear so much motion that she couldn't separate what was happening. There were people with labored breathing, metal clashing, grunts-there was so much. "Need another-❞ Someone grunted. "Port box." It was Leone.

Fauna stood up and stared at the phone. Tim was with him.

"Two secs, brother." Rafael hugged out a breath. "Dream team is dealing with a mage. Rea, bring him down, and I'll send him to the cells."

Her heart was beating hard. Was it the mage that was responsible for the box? Had they tried to get in her head?

"Got him. On the way."

She exhaled loudly.

"Shit, these guys have skills," Leone swore again.

"We're coming, Leone." It was Bethany.

"Stairs. Why is it always stairs." That sounded like Prince Michael.

"Hurry."

Fauna froze. That was Tim.

"Outnumbered." He grunted.

She sat down, clutched the phone, and stared at it. Her heart was beating erratically, and she felt like she couldn't breathe. "Tims down. Rea, get up here."

She jumped back to her feet, looked at the door, and then spun around and looked at the lake. She had no way to get to him.

"We got you, Tim." It was Kinsley. "I don't think so. Eat this." She growled.

"Rea." Quinton bellowed. "Just seal it so we can transport him."

"I'm trying to. Shut up." She barked back.

"You're going to be fine and can watch over her yourself." One of the women said.

"I got him. I got him. Help Leone with that big mountain." She didn't know who said it. She couldn't think.

"Firo, can you help Rea?" It was Paisley.

"Go. Go." Fauna's eyes widened. It was Ava. "Let's line them up." Fauna knew that tone and that Ava's wings would be full. "Back off." She growled.

"They're targeting Tim," Bethany said breathlessly.

"Keep them back." It was Rafael. "We'll port them as fast as we can."

"You don't touch my OG blocker." It was Daxx.

"I got this." It was Ava.

"Get Tim out of here," Daxx yelled.

"I think he can be ported now. Get him to the doc."

Fauna fumbled the phone and dropped it. Picking it up, she hit the mute button. "Where is he?"

"Fauna?" It was Ava.

"Yes. Where is he?"

"Use your porter. Top button. I'll meet you there and take you to him." It was Queen Alona.

"Yes." She flipped her hand over, opened the porter, and pushed the button without hesitation.
