First Eclipse

Chapter 18

Fauna got out of the bed and went over to the window. She couldn't get to sleep despite feeling like she was completely drained. She'd come up to her room after Mystral had been able to help Ava. It had only taken a few minutes. She said it was because it was already weak. Fauna didn't know what exactly, but the realization that Ava's memories had been locked behind a barrier in her mind made her decision to avoid magic very easy.

Moving the curtain, she looked out into the alley. There were so many people down there. Had something else happened? Going over, she grabbed the large hoody she used as a housecoat and put it on. Opening her dresser, she pulled out the first pair of track pants she touched and jammed her feet into the legs.

Moxy lifted her head and looked at her. "Go back to sleep. I'll be back." The animal adjusted her position and curled up again.

Slipping her shoes on, Fauna opened the door.

Karma was going down the hall. "Oh, good. You're up." She pointed. "I'm grabbing Em. The royals are having a meeting." Fauna zipped up the hoody. "Did something happen?"

"Oh yeah. That tunnel led to a camp-that woman was there."

Fauna nodded and ran down the stairs. She walked into the dining room. Ava and Firo were there.

"I'm fine." Ava snapped.

Fauna offered a brief smile and kept going. It was a relief. That was the normal Ava tone and not the way she'd been earlier.

Going out into the garage, she saw that Capri was already there with Tera, Sparx, and Sym.

"We should move this to the basement." Capri looked around. "It might be a little crowded, but we don't need anyone hearing what we have to say."

Sparx nodded and went out to where King Troy and a few of his brothers stood talking.

Fauna moved around the bikes and went outside. Her eyes immediately found Tim where he stood with a few more guards. His gaze flicked to her like she'd announced she was there. The men with him all had pirate vibes. She curbed the urge to smile. Maybe she should ask if they'd ever been on a pirate ship in their long lives.

"I'm going back to check on Autumn and the baby." Prince Michael said to his brother Victor.

"I'll come with you." King Chase nodded to Victor. "Call when there is a plan."

Prince Victor gave both of them an abrupt nod.

Someone walked up beside her; she looked to see it was Karma. "They found her and a camp but can't get near it because of a barrier spell." She summarized.

Capri was directing them to the side of the building to go down to the basement.

Jeri and Trendan came out of the building beside them. He was on his phone. Jeri hurried over to them. "They found her. The one that tried to drown us." She glanced over at her mate. "He's getting Bastian and a few others here. They need to go into the camp and see how many are there."

Fauna frowned. "That's dangerous."

Jeri shook her head. "Not when they're in soul watcher mode and invisible." She smiled. "Then they are undetectable, even to barrier spells." She put her finger against her lips and looked at Tredan. "He's never thought to try it to avoid Capri's on the building."

Karma smiled. "That's a handy talent." Her smile faded. "I wouldn't mind getting a piece of the one that turned my gift back on me."

"Same." Flora was pulling her jacket on as she came outside. "Having plants that I called to try to mummify me was not fun."

"Let's go to the basement. I want to hear the plan." Karma pointed.

Fauna turned to see most of the others had already left. They started walking.

Karma glanced back. "Ava's all right?"

Flora nodded. "She was really pissed once the pain was gone."

Karma snorted. "No doubt." She jogged down the cement steps. "So what happened?"

Flora followed her. "Evil twin was there the day Ava's world crashed down. She forced Ava's powers to awaken. All at once, making Ava blow up the house and the woman that raised her." Fauna hurried in the door behind them.

"And then Firo found her, thought Ava had done it, and locked the memories up to save her the trauma." Flora paused and looked around and then went to the empty table near the door. Karma pulled out a chair. "Damn. No wonder she's pissed."

"Understatement."

They turned to see Ava coming to them. She sat down. "I'm going to rip her power from her."

Fauna's eyes rounded. "You can do that?"

Ava shrugged. "No idea, but I'll figure it out."

Trendan and Jeri came through the door. Bastian and Nova were with them. His guard, Tor, and the other one she'd seen with Trendan came in. The idea that they could be invisible and go anywhere they wanted was startling to Fauna. She wasn't sure whether it was a serious breach of propriety or the coolest thing she'd ever heard.
