Finding Charlie Rose

Chapter 11

Oliver completed his work while holding onto his sister who was sleeping soundly on his chest. His boss was curious as to who the small child on his chest was and went to investigate. "Oliver, care to explain the princess you stole?" His boss chuckled. "Hey Ross, this is my baby sister Charlie Rose. She is now living with us and fell asleep at lunch. My brothers took her shopping this morning. They still had a few things to get and I have no clients this afternoon so I didn't think you would mind" Oliver replied quietly not wanting to wake his sister.

Ross smiled at the sleeping figure on Oliver's chest. "It's not a problem Oliver, she is welcome any time she likes and she can always stay in the crèche if needs be" Ross replied. Charlie started to stir in her brother's arms looking up to see Oliver smiling down at her "Hey princess" he said quietly. "Charlie wee wee" Charlie replied. "Why not take her to the kid's toilets in the crèche, then I want a proper introduction," Ross said. "Sure" replied Oliver walking towards the crèche with Charlie still gripping tightly onto Oliver.

Oliver walked into the crèche smiling lightly at Charlie who was still trying to wake up. "How the hell did that little brat get out" one of the workers screeched stomping up to Oliver attempting to snatch Charlie from him. "Oi, what do you think you're doing?" Oliver asked. "That brat is going to be taught a lesson she will never forget" the woman screeched.

Charlie looked at Oliver with big scared eyes and her bottom lip began to tremble. Oliver looked at his sister and then at the woman who again tried to snatch Charlie. "Don't you ever try to put your hands on my sister again" he harshly said before stomping past the woman and taking Charlie to the toilet. Charlie wouldn't let Oliver put her down "It's ok Charlie she won't hurt you. I'm right here, do your wee and then we can go away from the nasty woman" Oliver told his sister. Charlie let go and went to do her wee.

"Oi, what's your name?" He asked the woman who was still glaring at Charlie. The woman smiled at Oliver "Ray" she replied fluttering her fake lashes. "Well Ray, stop glaring at my sister" Oliver harshly replied and she just scoffed.

Oliver felt a little tug in his leg and bent down to see Charlie standing there looking up at him with wide eyes. "O is she bad man?" Charlie asked. "Yeh princess she is bad" Oliver replied picking his sister up and starting to leave the crèche. He wanted to speak to Ross about the chick cause she clearly shouldn't be working with kids if that was how she treated them. "Mummy says bad man come Charlie ring 000" Charlie replied stopping Oliver in his tracks. "Charlie, did the bad man ever come?" Oliver asked. He didn't know who the bad man was but he couldn't help but wonder if someone ever hurt his sister. Charlie shook her head no as they walked into Ross' office. Oliver let out a sigh he would deal with the Ray chick and then question Charlie about the bad man.

Ross looked up seeing Oliver walk in with Charlie "So who is this princess gracing us with her presence today?" Ross asked making Charlie giggle. "I Charlie no princess" Charlie replied. "Oh but you are as pretty as a princess" Ross replied causing Charlie to bury her head in Oliver's chest making both men laugh at her embarrassment.

Oliver quickly remembered why he was there and told Ross about Ray. Ross quickly turned the cameras on in the crèche and saw Ray yelling at the kids before. "Man the desk with the Princess, I'll take care of this" Ross said before heading towards the crèche. Ross was a great boss but he didn't accept anything but the best and he hated people who harmed children.

Oliver went to the front desk and placed Charlie who was still gripping her worm next to him on the stool. He grabbed her some pens and paper so she would be occupied and watched the desk welcoming people into the gym. "Welcome" Charlie beamed out to everyone that was coming and going from the gym not realising those walking out the door were actually leaving. She had heard Oliver saying welcome to the first person who came in so she assumed that was what you said to everyone.

About 10 minutes later Ray stormed towards the exit, Charlie quickly said "Welcome" causing Ray to swing around and come storming towards the 3-year-old. "You little brat. I lost my job because of you" the woman screamed causing Charlie to almost fall from her stool. "You lost your job because you clearly aren't cut out to work in a crèche. Don't you dare blame my sister and don't you dare speak to her like that again" Oliver roared out. No one had any right to speak to Charlie like that at all.

"Charlie call 000" Charlie mumbled remembering her mum teaching her what to do if the bad man came. "Leave Ray," Ross said coming behind her. Ray stormed out and Charlie reached for the phone in front of her. "What are you doing princess?" Asked Ross. "Charlie call 000 mummy said when bad man comes" Charlie replied. "It's ok munchkin Ray is gone she won't hurt you" Oliver calmly replied taking the phone from Charlie and putting it down.

"Charlie, do you know who the bad man is?" Oliver asked wanting to know why Charlie knew to call for help. Charlie nodded her head yes. "Can you tell me please munchkin?" Oliver asked wanting to know. "Daddy Jack" Charlie replied. Ross and Oliver looked on "Mummy said he not nice. He bad and Charlie hide and call 000" Charlie told them to remember what her mother had said.

Oliver was ashamed that his sister had to learn that at such an early age but proud that she was willing to help their mother if needed, something he failed to do when he was growing up. "He isn't here princess and he won't find you. We won't let him" Oliver replied. "Is there something you want to tell me, Oliver?" Ross asked. He had known the kid for a while and first, he had never met his sister now her dad Jack was the bad man she needed to call the police on. Oliver looked to Ross before his brothers walked in reading the room and seeing the tension.

"Sammy, Bee. Welcome," Charlie said excitedly. "Hey, baby girl. Did you have fun with O at his work?" Sam asked watching what was happening between Ross and Oliver. Charlie nodded her head yes. "Byron take Charlie to the car. I'll be out in a minute" Sam stated in a tone that indicated not to argue.

Byron took Charlie and her worm and left the other inside to talk. "Well, Oliver? Why is your sister stating she has to call the police when her dad turns up?" Ross asked. "What?" Sam asked. "She knows dad is the bad man and how to call the cops if he turns up" Oliver replied softly. "Shit" Sam replied. "Someone tell me what the hell is going on" Ross said getting louder.

Oliver began at the beginning telling Ross everything and to say that man was furious was an understatement. He hated people who harmed children as much as he hated men who harmed women. When they had told Ross everything he asked one simple question "Why didn't you come to me?". Ross had known the boys for 10 years and would have helped them without a second thought. "We were ashamed and Dad promised to stop if we turned our back on Mum. We didn't know he only got worse and we blamed ourselves" Sam added. "He was emotionally abusing you all too. It wasn't anyone else's fault but his," Ross told them.
