Chapter 4
Brax and Bodie walked into the house annoyed they were called home for a family emergency. "If this is about a lost dog I'm going to shoot you" Brax called out. He had heard something about keeping her as they walked into the room. Bailey jumped in her sleep hearing the booming voice of Brax calling out.
Bodie stopped at the entrance to the kitchen seeing his brother holding a kid in his arms. "What is that?" Bodie asked while pointing to Bailey who was still sleeping on Blair's chest. Nelson looked at what Bodie was pointing at and got annoyed. Brax also looked at what Bodie was talking about and saw the baby in Blair's arms.
"Boys take a seat" Nelson directed at Brax and Bodie. These two hated there mum so he was not sure how they were going to take the news of a sister and that Blair wanted her to stay with them. Nelson told himself he would remain neutral but he was already planning on Bailey staying in his head.
Brax and Bodie took a seat still glaring at the child in Blair's arms. "Now boys you are to keep an open mind and listen to what Blair has to say. Am I clear?" Nelson asked. Bodie and Brax nodded there head yes. Both assumed the baby was Blair's child. "Blair go ahead" Nelson stated.
Blair cleared his throat and then looked at his baby sister. "I got a call from mum earlier" Blair stated causing Brax and Bodie to kick off. "What the fuck?" Bodie screamed out. "I don't give a shit" Brax called both boys were on there feet ready to leave. Brax and Bodie wanted nothing to do with there mother at all so didn't want to listen to anything that had to do with her. Bailey jumped in her sleep but didn't wake up. She was warm and felt safe in whoever's arms she was in.
"Sit down and keep your voices down. You were told to listen" Nelson chastised his sons. Blair nodded at his father in thanks and cleared his throat again. "Right so mum called and she said she needed help. She said something about Bailey and he was going to kill her. I didn't know what she was talking about. She then sent me a text with an address. Dad and I went together and what we found was horrible. There was drugs all over the lounge room. The place was a mess and dad found Bailey in the bathroom" Blair stated.
Brax and Bodie had no idea what was going on at all. They were confused at who Bailey was and what it had to do with a family emergency. Blair looked at his father for help. He didn't know how to tell his brothers at all that Bailey was there sister and he wanted to let her stay with them because she deserved a family.
Nelson cleared his throat seeing his youngest son struggling with what to say. "Right what your brother is trying to say is that at the house we found Bailey" Nelson stated pointing to the baby laying in Blair's arms. "Bailey was in the bath tub with a full nappy screaming. I cleaned her up and Blair went in search of nappies and a towel. What he found was a letter from your mother. Bailey is your sister, she is 18 months old. Your mother left her and took off with the same man she left us for" Nelson stated.
Brax and Bodie sat in shock looking between there father, Blair and the baby who they just learnt was there sister. Nelson placed the letter on the table and pushing it towards his sons to look at for themselves. Brax and Bodie quickly read the letter and then looked back to the baby and then Blair.
Brax stood up and started pacing the kitchen while Bodie just stared at the baby he now knew as Bailey. "She did it again? She fucken abandoned another child" Brax bark out while pacing up and down. Nelson looked at his eldest son with sympathy, he was 18 when his mother left but he still felt abandoned. Nelson hummed in acknowledgment and turned back to look at Bailey in Blair's arms. "The difference is, Bailey here has no one in her corner" Nelson added.
Brax turned abruptly towards his father and looked at him. "What?" Brax asked. "Bailey here has no one, her father took off with her mother. She will have to go in to a care home" Nelson replied. He knew it was wrong to manipulate his two older sons like this but they needed to know that Bailey was on her own.
Bodie looked towards his father, "her dad took off too?" He asked. "It's all in the note, they both left her, in fact from looking at Bailey, I would guess someone has physically harmed her" Nelson added. He had seen the hand print on her back and face which indicated that someone had physically hurt her. "How could someone hurt a baby?" Bodie asked.
Nelson didn't know what to say at all. He had no idea how anyone could hurt a baby let alone there own child. He also couldn't understand how two parents could walk away from a child. "I honestly don't know" Nelson replied. "Wait the letter asked Blair to take Bailey. Why can't she stay here?" Brax asked rereading the letter. Blair smiled at his eldest brother realising that he had someone on his side.
Nelson looked at Blair and winked knowing that once Brax had made his mind up that he would fight tooth and nail to get his way. "Well it's not my decision to make, that's something you three will need to work out together" Nelson replied.
Brax looked at Bodie who hadn't taken his eyes off Bailey. "What do you say?" Brax asked. "I'm in" Blair declared. He wanted his sister to have a family and he wanted to be that family. "Dad are you ok with this?" Bodie asked his father. "It's your house and you don't have to do this. We will need help with her. If you don't want to we can always put her in the system" Bodie stated.
Nelson shook his head, the system was no place for a child at all. "I'm ok with her being here. Bailey doesn't need to be in the system. She has a family right here" Nelson declared. "Ok it's settled, Bailey stays with us" Brax stated.
The four discussed everything they would need to get so Bailey could stay with them. Nelson also made it clear that she would need to be looked at by a doctor as she was under weight for her age and was developmentally behind. It was agreed that Brax would call his friend Kevin who had finished medical school so he could come and look at Bailey tomorrow and that Nelson would be the one to go and buy what she needed as the boys had no idea at all. Brax and Bodie then sat watching Blair hold their baby sister waiting for her to wake up so they could finally she what she looked like.
