Chapter 33: Tribunal
The whole Werewolf pack gathered for the Tribunal meeting at the Compound. After a couple of months keeping my distance from their pack mind it is strange to be surrounded by so many minds again. I hadn’t realized how much I missed the comfort of a close knitted loving family pack mind and I now appreciated each one being here for me when I would need their support the most.
When the Tribunal member called Trevor arrived I was shocked to find him so careless. He entered the Compound with a following and did not even acknowledge anyone on his way to the pack’s assembly hall. I watched him through the big open doors while he took his place on the dais with his entourage settling in around him. I cannot help the feeling of dislike that I feel towards this disrespectful person, Tribunal member or not.
The pack with Michael, Allison, Jane, Ian and myself in the lead move to enter and to add more insult one of Trevor’s pack move to block us. Michael is outraged but keeps calm. Allison is another matter entirely and makes her opinion of their behaviour very clear. In the end only the five of us in the lead is allowed to enter and I realized that it is a calculated number on their part. They now outnumbered us two to one inside.
I am surprised to find that Michael does not invited Trevor into our pack mind and that instead they are sharing greetings Alpha mind to Alpha mind. My suspicions that Jane can hear and communicate as Alpha’s do is confirmed but Ian is feeling really upset at being left out.Being of direct Alpha decendance he should be able to hear but he has suppressed his Alpha nature for so long that it’s hard for him to connect to it at times I’ve noticed.
At first Trevor only acknowledges Michaels presence. “You have summoned me and it intrigues me that a mere pup from your pack could have committed an atrocity big enough to require my judgement.” He turns his head slightly and focuses on Jane. “As for you Jane I see that Zeus’s teachings did not fall on deaf ears after all.” An image of a very young Werewolf pup being dragged around by the ear yelping, while a human male recites what Trevor considers sacred law to her plays in his mind’s eye.
The image makes me growl aloud when I realize the little Werewolf pup is Jane. Trevor glances over at me and I can feel in his mind that he does not deem me worthy of his attention so he looks away again dismissively.
The previous night Jane and Ian had summoned Michael to our den telling him that it would not be a good idea for the Tribunal member to see my memories of Jenny’s death. Jane also insisted that the Tribunal would show up in Werewolf form and suggested we do the same. Michael burned with curiosity as to what they were so obviously hiding about me but dismissed it thinking on what he had told me before. Jane also recited another law that Michael could use that would protect a younger member from the pack from being delved during a hearing.
“Do not waste my time let the pup present himself.” Trevor commands and as discussed the night before Jane quickly steps forward. “You wish for me to believe that Jane falls into the clause of protection where young pups are concerned?’ He scoffed. “Tell me little Jane what atrocities have you committed.”
He is clearly mocking her and I have a hard time keeping my opinion of this Tribunal member to myself. If this is what the Tribunal represents I wasn’t sure I felt as Michael did the first time he spoke to me about them.
“Not me great one.” Jane bows as if she respects this disrespectful ghoul. “I merely wish to point out another clause in the law.”
An image of Trevor picking Jane up by the tail and flinging her away from him runs in the forefront of Trevor’s mind. I am not sure if this is what he was at this moment wishing to do to her or if it was something he had done to her when she was in the Tribunal’s care. It doesn’t matter either way the hackles on my neck rises in response as something about Jane’s past clicks in my mind. Suddenly her nightmares start making a lot more sense. My skin itches and burns but I concentrate on keeping form.
Ian feeling the tension rolling off of me steps closer projecting the word Chill at me while Jane recites the clause she had discussed with Michael. I feel instantly better when she steps back to stand between me and Michael once more.
It is Michaels turn to step forward and he shows Trevor Jenny’s attack on my pack, emphasizing LongFangs injuries then to my surprise somehow changes the image to make it appear as if I was in my Werewolf form when I attacked and killed her. He was lying to a Tribunal member to protect me and a secret he did not even know.
Trevor turns his attention back to me and this time there is definite curiosity in his eyes as he leans down towards me. “A pup you claim. Strange that what I see before me appears to lack all puppies qualities.”
Michael tries to show him what LongFang had about my life but Trevor dismisses the images sitting back on his haunches.
“Enough. I judge it a law full kill. Her actions alone ensure this verdict.” He nods to Michael.
“However know this pup you will not be afforded the luxuries of the young again.” He dismisses me as if I had never been in the room.
The feeling of relief flowing through all of us nullifies his rudeness and I want to yelp with joy.
We turn as one to leave but Trevor calls Michael to attention. “We have other business to discuss which does not concern pups.” He is obviously dismissing me from the group.
Michael can feel my dislike of the Tribunal member and agrees that it might be best for me to wait outside. I think he is afraid of what I might do because he sends Allison out with me. She is not pleased by this silent command but follows dutifully. We exit the hall but I don’t sever my Alpha link to Michael and Jane’s minds.
To my dismay I realize that Trevor is now focused on Jane though he is addressing Michael. “I can sense that you see the pup as a grandson. I have always felt your daughter’s disappearance and the failure on our part to help you locate her as an affront to the Werewolf Tribunal Members otherwise spotless records. It is good to note that this matter has clearly been resolved although your part in failing to notify us is unsettling.”
Michael’s anger is beyond thought and Ian has taken a position slightly in front of his father with Jane also trying her best to stay between Trevor and Michael.
“Seeing as your daughter left you with a suitable replacement of her own I see no reason for you not to return Jane.”
Michael and I growl as one at this outrages statement. It takes Michael a full 5 heart beats to calm down enough to form coherent words.
“I beg you to reconsider. She is and has always been as a daughter to us.” Jane whimpers her joy at my grandfather’s words but I can see she is thinking of following Trevor’s order.
Trevor does not even acknowledge the fact that Michael has spoken and his lackeys form up around him as they prepare to leave. I see Jane trying to sooth Michael dreading a confrontation between Michael and the Tribunal pack.
No one is standing in my way I crouch low and prepare to attack. After what I had seen here today I will not let them break my vows and take My Jane away. There are 11 of them in total but I have the element of surprise on my side and am sure the rest of the pack will back me up if I can just take out Trevor first. I will attack the second they leave the assembly hall.
I had found one of her nightmarish pursuers he will be the first to pay.
