Chapter 15: Some Humans Things are all bad

When we stopped and climbed out of the transport Jeep I kept close to Ian and Michael. Everything felt wrong about this place. The air smelled burnt and there are other humans looking at us strangely. At least I hope they are looking at us and not just me.

Ian had explained that the area from my wolf packs territory to this place was mostly uninhabited by humans. He also explained why we would have to stop at this human den called ‘Wall Mart’. We needed to get certain human things before going into a more populated human area so that we could blend in better with them. I don’t see myself blending in no matter how much things we get. I look like a human but I don’t feel human at all.

One of the humans outside is a female with the oddest colour fur on her head I have ever seen. It’s like sunrise all fire and stands out in all directions. Like a wet pups fur. She has been injured in some way. There are strange things sticking out of her mouth and nose. It must really hurt and I feel sorry for her she looks like she is in a great deal of pain.

I have started getting better at knowing what human words mean. When humans talk even Werewolf humans they think what they say. By very carefully scanning just the most easy to read thoughts around me I can in a way see what they are saying.

The ‘store’ den has chips and mountain dew out at the front that distracts me a little so I don’t notice the way Allisonis looking at me or thinking about me until she pulls methrough the den to a place she call’s ‘fitting rooms’, pointing to a small indent in the den wall with a fur hanging in front of it. She imagines me without fur then in many other differently shaped furs. She thinks of the furs as ‘clothes’ so I try to do the same repeating the word out loud.

“Yes cloths.” She nods proudly.

I take the cloths she holds out to me put them on the floor and start pulling off the cloths on my legs.

“No!” Allison is no longer proud but very frustrated. “You can’t do that out here!” She shakes her head at me before pushing me behind the hanging fur. “Someone is going to have to teach you some modesty very soon.” She grumbles.

I don’t understand what I did wrong but I see that she wants me to put on the cloths here and I do as she wishes. I don’t make a habit out of arguing with pack females they are usually right and make you do things for your own good. This time the clothes aren’tso tight and it actually feels nice until she insisted I put uncomfortable things on my feet she calls ‘shoes’. The shoes make me wonder if she has my interests at heart.

My feet are so clumsy and sore from the shoes I stumble around unable to keep my balance. ‘Shoes’ are evil and I will warn my wolf pack brothers of it first chance I get. The look in Allison’s eyes keep me from taking them off. I know better than looking for trouble.

After Allison is satisfied with me she leaves me to look around for a while. Humans have too many things; it clutters up their dens and makes them smell funny. They catch too much food too and leave it lying around in piles. My stomach growls but I don’t touch the food. It is impolite to encroach on others territory. I will ask Ian for chips.

A part of me wants to know what all the things are for and if there is a reason for them like with my mother’s things. But part of me also wants to run away from all of these new things.

The female from outside has joined a male inside the store den and they are watching me. When I look up to confront them the male suddenly grabs the female turns her to face him and opens his jaws as if to bite her. No wonder she is full of injuries. I growl shaking badly. The male stops and seeing me takes a step back from the female. They both smell scared.

“Chill.” Ian unexpectedly says from right next to me putting his hand on my shoulder. “It’s not what you think”

He shows me images of males and females ‘kissing’ a form of affection between humans like licking is for wolfs. I find it hard to believe that he thinks of kissing as enjoyable.

“I was right.” He smiles. “You understand. You are scanning but not even I can feel it.”

I look away he had told me not to and I didn’t want to seem the disobedient pup.

“It’s alright Jessie I understand.” He smiles. “Just don’t go too deep and get caught.” He warns.

I smile my understanding back at him. Not wanting to misinterpret any more human behaviour I stay close to him.The male and female retreats out of the store den leaving us mostly alone inside.

Michael is talking to a little thing in his hand and I worry about him. We have a member in our wolf pack HardFall that talks to stones around him since he fell from a cliff as a pup. LongFang says he is special and imagines the stones talks back to him. We were never allowed to comment on his behaviour. In a pack all member are accepted no matter what. I was after all accepted as I am as well. Suddenly I don’t feel so good and miss home very much. A whine escapes my throat and Michael decides it’s time for us to go.

When we finally escaped the store den even transport Jeep doesn’t recognize me and won’tlet me inside until Michael pokes it with a sharp tooth.

We didn’t have to go far before we reached an enormous cave aboveground that had huge transport’s all around it. I presumed this was what Ian had called a ’Airport.” At first I couldn’t wait to get closer and see if they looked like transport Jeep inside. As soon as I climbed out I changed my mind.

I hate transport planes. They are big, smelly, very loud and scary. They do not have a mind to share and do not fly like birds.

Michael is very worried and keeps looking my way. “He will be fine.” He says to Ian who is also looking worried.

“Don’t worry boss I’ll take care of him if anything starts going wrong.” Allison winks at Michael showing him a shiny thing she puts away again in the back of her furs.

Michael does not like the thing she showed him but is too worried about me in general for me to make out anything specific. One image that does come up in his mind is of me getting into the transport plane and turning into my wolf or Werewolf form.

This image worries me too even though I do not understand why that would be a problem he seems to think it would and that is enough to worry me.

Ian thinks that it is good the transport plane belongs to the Werewolf pack and we would be the only ones using it. He imagines himself in the front of the transport plane with Allison while me and Michael stays in the back.

I’m glad when we don’t get into one of the bigger transport…no just, planes. The one Ian shows me to climb into is bigger than Jeep but just as uncomfortable inside. I’m trembling and I can’t help it the plane scares me.

Michael makes me sit down inside and puts things he thinks of as ‘safety belts’ around me. They hold me down and I squirm. I am trapped inside the plane now if it falls from the sky like an injured bird what would happen.

I can’t help it my body starts to shake and I can feel the burning sensation running over my body. Michael was right to worry I am changing and the fact that I don’t know what form I will change into scares me even more.

“Help me!” I yell in Ian’s mind. He is the only one here that knows I have many forms and who accepts me as me in all of them.

Allison is suddenly there in front of me. Michael is trying to push her out of the way but she takes the shiny thing from before out from her back and holds it towards me. I see what she wants to do with it a heartbeat before it happens and I can do nothing I’m still trapped when everything goes black….
