Every Breath You Take

Chapter 121

The next noon, Zoe went to Roland's villa with a large bag of gifts. Monica's face darkened when she saw Zoe. "Why are you here?"

"I'm here to see my grandson!" Zoe did not care about Monica's attitude and went straight into the villa. Coco was playing with the puzzle in the living room. When he heard Zoe's voice, he looked up.

It was the first time for Zoe to see his grandson. He liked Coco at first sight. Coco and Monica looked so alike. He put the gifts in front of Coco and lovingly reached out his hand to touch Coco's head. "You're Coco, right? I'm Grandpa."

"Grandpa? What's that?" Coco asked with his eyes wide open. Monica had never mentioned Zoe in front of him, so he didn't know what Grandpa meant.

Zoe's face turned a little red. "Grandpa is your mother's father, understand?"

"I understand." In fact, Coco was still confused. He turned to look at Monica. "Mom, do you have a father?"

Monica forced herself to give a smile. She didn't want Zoe to lose face, so she nodded.

"You're Mom's father. Why didn't you help Mom when she was bullied by bad guys?" Coco turned to look at Zoe again.

"I was wrong. I will take care of you and your mother from now on, so that you won't be bullied by anyone." Zoe felt very guilty.

"Really?" Coco was happy. He was scared by Jenny. If he had a father, Coco thought he wouldn't have been bullied like this. Now that his mother had a father, his mother's father would definitely protect him and his mother. "There is a bad woman who often bullies me and my mother. You must help us beat her. She is too bad!"

"Well, if she dares to bully you again, Grandpa will protect you." Zoe promised. Then he looked back at Monica. "Moni, since you're back, you can take the child home."

Although Monica knew it was Zoe who helped her this time, she still couldn't accept him. "No, we'll just live here."

"It's still someone else's house. Dad will ask Lancy to prepare a room for Coco immediately. You should take him back."

"For me, this place is more like my home." Monica was not polite at all. She didn't want to see Zoe at all, but she couldn't drive Zoe away in front of Coco. At this time, Xanjer came.

Xajner often came here to help Monica take care of Coco. He was shocked to see Zoe here and his face immediately darkened. "What are you doing here?"

Seeing Xanjer, Coco was very happy. He immediately ran to Xanjer. "Great- uncle, I'm not hungry now. Please play with me first and then go to cook."

"Okay. Great-uncle will play with Coco for a while." Xanjer said. Monica reached out and took over the food from Xanjer. "Uncle, you play with Coco. I'll cook today." "No, Coco likes my cooking."

"The dishes made by Great-uncle are more delicious than those made by my mother. I want Great-uncle to cook."

"Little fellow, can't you let your great-uncle have a rest?" Monica glared at Coco.

Coco dodged into Xanjer's arms. "Great-uncle, Mom scolded me!"

"Don't be afraid. Great-uncle is here."

Seeing Coco and Monica's intimate relationship with Xanjer, Zoe had mixed feelings. Monica was his daughter and Coco was his grandson. However, they had a deep relationship with Xanjer, an outsider. Zoe felt really upset.

Coco made a face at Monica in Xanjer's arms. Seeing Zoe standing aside, he poked his head out and pointed at Zoe, "Great-uncle, my mother has a father. The bad guys will not dare to bully us again!" "Him?" Xanjer sneered. For Coco's sake, he wouldn't scold Zoe. Xanjer's sneer stimulated Zoe. If Xanjer hadn't taken Monica away, Monica would have grown up in the Jane family and had a good relationship with her father, nor would she have suffered so much. Zoe had a grudge against Xanjer.

"What's wrong with me?" Zoe stared at Xanjer coldly. "From now on, I will take care of my daughter and grandson. I won't bother you."

"Don't you think it's too late to say that now?" Xanjer sneered. "Moni and Coco don't need you." "It's not up to you, an outsider." Zoe also sneered. He had always been tolerant of Xanjer and never argued with him. But at this moment, he didn't want to stand Xanjer anymore. "I tell you, be polite to me. Otherwise I'll reveal your scandal."

"Zoe, are you still a human?" Xanjer was so angry that his face darkened. Zoe was threatening Xanjer with the identity of Francisco. Xanjer didn't want Monica to know this.

Seeing that, Monica felt bad. Although Zoe hurt her mother and her, it was undeniable that Zoe was very kind to her when she was a child. It was precisely because Zoe was good to her that she couldn't accept his cheating.

Although Xanjer was her uncle, he had been caring about her since she was ten years old. He played the role of uncle and father in her life. She didn't want to see their quarrel, so she said to Zoe, "You may go back first."

Zoe thought that Monica was helping Xanjer, so he was even angrier. He looked at Coco and suppressed his anger. " Coco, Grandpa will come to see you tomorrow. You have to listen to your mother!" "Okay, Grandpa, goodbye!"

Zoe did not leave immediately but looked at Xanjer coldly. "Thank you for taking care of Moni these years. I'll buy you tea another day."

"I can't afford the mayor's tea. Forget it!" Xanjer didn't want to have anything to do with Zoe.

Zoe gave a fake smile. "I will invite you personally." After saying this, he strode away. After Zoe left, Xanjer's face turned pale. "Uncle, don't worry. Coco and I won't have anything to do with him." Xanjer smiled bitterly. He was not the real Xanjer. If Zoe told Monica the truth, what would she do?

After lunch, Quarmy came here. He looked haggard and thinner. Seeing that, Monica felt a bit sad. "Quarmy, don't disturb us anymore, okay? I promise to let Coco call you Dad after he recovers, okay?" Quarmy smiled bitterly. "Moni, I'm not here for this. I found a doctor for Coco. He is a well-known doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. He has rich clinical experience in treating leukemia. Please let him give Coco an examination."

"Chinese medicine?" Monica hesitated.

"Mr. Huo heard that the doctor had a lot of experience in leukemia treatment, so he traveled thousands of miles to invite him over. Please let him check Coco out." Noah interrupted.

"I have also heard of cases of leukemia cured by traditional Chinese medicine. Since the doctor is here, let's have a try." Xanjer persuaded.

Since Xanjer did not object, Monica opened the door. Dr. Zhang gave Coco an examination and then read Coco's medical records. He said he had treated patients like Coco before, so he suggested to treat Coco with a combination of Chinese and Western medicine.

Monica accepted his suggestion. Dr. Zhang gave Monica a prescription and asked her to let Coco take two courses of Chinese medicine first.

Xanjer carefully inquired about the points to note of taking Chinese medicine. The doctor said that Coco was forbidden to eat sour, cold or spicy food. Monica thanked the doctor was ready to buy medicine. Quarmy naturally would not give up this opportunity. He immediately proposed to give Monica a ride. Monica did not refuse.

This was the first time that they had been alone since returning to China. Quarmy looked at Monica carefully. "Moni, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I have caused you so much trouble."

"What else can you say other than sorry?" Monica snorted. "You're always making mistakes and apologizing. What's the point?"

"I won't do it again." He said with caution.

"Are you sure?" Monica sneered.

Quarmy was speechless. After a while, he begged, "Moni, I want to visit the child often. Is that okay?"

"Can I say no?" Monica said impolitely.

She didn't refuse him to visit Coco. Quarmy was happy. He smiled. "Moni, thank you."

"Thank me for what? Quarmy, I warn you, don't go too far. I just allow you to visit the child. That's all."

"I know. I won't do anything else." Quarmy promised.

After buying medicine, they were ready to go back. When Quarmy started the car, he saw someone through the rearview mirror. He couldn't help but be surprised. "Lassie? Why is she here?" Monica followed his gaze and looked over. She saw Lassie appear at the gate of the pharmacy. Quarmy looked at Monica and said, "I'll ask her what she's doing here." Monica knew what Quarmy meant. He must be worried about Jenny. She didn't say anything, because Quarmy's business had nothing to do with her. Seeing that Monica didn't agree, Quarmy explained, "I went to another city for Coco's doctor and asked Lassie to take care of my mother, so..."

It was normal for him to worry about his mother. Monica couldn't help but say, "Quarmy, when I was with you, I never meddled in your affairs. Now we have nothing to do with each other, you can do whatever you want."

"I..."

Quarmy looked at Monica with a complex expression. While he was hesitating, a man walked to Lassie. They greeted each other familiarly and then entered the pharmacy together.

"Ted? How did he know Lassie?" Now it was Monica's turn to be surprised. The man who entered the pharmacy with Lassie was Zoe's driver, Ted.

"Yes, how could they know each other?" Quarmy was also surprised.

"Quarmy, don't you want to ask your mother's condition? Go ask her now." Monica urged.

Quarmy got out of the car and went into the pharmacy. Although Ted was standing beside Lassie, his eyes had been looking around. He saw Quarmy from the elevator. As soon as he saw Quarmy, he subconsciously moved away from Lassie. He took the initiative to greet Quarmy. "Mr. Huo!"

This made Lassie, who was with her back to Quarmy, turn her head. She was obviously shocked when she saw Quarmy. Fortunately, Ted stopped Quarmy and greeted him. Lassie's expression soon returned to normal. After that, she walked to Quarmy as if nothing had happened. "Mr. Huo, when did you come back?"

"I just came back today." Quarmy replied. "How is my mother?"

"Madam is doing well, but she has been unhappy. You should go visit her more." Lassie answered.

Seeing Quarmy and Lassie talking about family affairs, Ted politely said goodbye to Quarmy. "Mr. Huo, I should get going."

Quarmy nodded, but his eyes followed Ted. How could he feel that Ted was a little flustered? Was he thinking too much? Seeing his eyes following Ted, Lassie's heart skipped a beat. She gave a fake smile. "Who is that man?"

Quarmy was stunned by her question. What did Lassie mean by that? She didn't know Ted? He just saw them greeting each other at the door. Why didn't they know each other in a blink of an eye? What was going on?

Although he had doubts in his heart, he did not show it. "He's Mayor Jane's driver."

"I see!" Lassie added, "I'm not feeling well these days, so I came here to get some medicine."

"You've worked hard!" Quarmy knew his mother's temper clearly. Since he hadn't shown up during this period of time, Jenny would definitely vent her anger on Lassie. Lassie didn't dare to talk back, so it was normal for her to feel comfortable. "I'll hire two more carers for her. You can rest for a while."

"I don't need to rest. I can take care of Madam." Lassie quickly said. Quarmy was generous. Although she was often scolded by Jenny, she had a lot of wages. For the sake of money, she had no complaints at all no matter how Jenny bullied her.

Of course, there was another purpose for her to stay in the Huo family. Yale would also give her money. She was really satisfied with it. If Quarmy really hired carers for Jenny, would she be replaced?

She was afraid that Quarmy would really do so, so she immediately added, "I have stayed with Madam for a long time, so I know her preferences better. I'm afraid that the other cares can let make her satisfied."

Her words made sense. Quarmy nodded and said, "If you feel tired, tell me."

Monica waited in the car for a while before Quarmy came out. Seeing him get on the car, Monica could not help but ask, "Is your mother all right?"

"Lassie said that she was doing well."

"You should go visit her."

"I will." Quarmy answered and started the car. He asked Monica a question. "Lassie and Ted greeted each other at the door, didn't they?"

"Yeah." Monica was a little confused. "Why do you ask this?"

"Nothing, I wondered if I saw it wrong."

After sending Monica back, Quarmy and Noah left together. On the way, he told Noah what he saw this day. "It's strange that they pretended not to know each other. Go and investigate Ted Lee." Noah nodded Although Zoe didn't allow Madrigal to go out, Madrigal wouldn't really listen to him. Since Jenny was hospitalized, she had to take time to please her and see Jenny's attitude toward her.

When Zoe was not at home, Madrigal bought what Jenny liked and went to the hospital. When Jenny saw Madrigal, she was very happy. She took Madrigal's hand and chatted with her. Madrigal's obedience made Jenny very happy. The more she looked at Madrigal, the more she felt that Madrigal was better than Monica. "Madrigal, are you pregnant?"

Madrigal smiled shyly. "I missed my period."

"Really?" Jenny was very happy. "Did you check if you were pregnant?"

"Not yet."

"Do it immediately. If you are pregnant..." Jenny suddenly felt relaxed. If Madrigal was pregnant, Monica would never be with Quarmy again.

Madrigal returned home and told Yale about Jenny's reaction. When the mother and daughter were talking, Zoe came back. He told Yale to prepare a children's room immediately.

Yale knew that Zoe wanted Monica's son to move in. She hated Monica'er secretly, but she did not show it on her face. "Is Moni going to move in with her child?"

"Yes!" Zoe answered very briefly. "Make the room look nice."

Lancy was very excited when she heard this. "Mayor, leave this to me. I won't disappoint you."

"Then thank you." Zoe sat down after saying that. Madrigal complacently brought him tea. Zoe took a sip of it. He looked at Madrigal. "You have been graduated for several years. Do you have any plans?" Madrigal was stunned by his question. Except marrying Quarmy and becoming a noble lady, she did not have any other plans. She answered with hesitation, "I haven't thought about it yet." Zoe frowned. As an adult, she actually didn't even have a future plan. Was she still a human? Thinking of Monica, he began to feel uncomfortable. Why were his two daughters so different? Monica was low-key and reserved. Even when she was Quarmy's wife, she was also low-key. Zoe had never seen her go to any high-end places. However, Madrigal was different. She went to high-end places all day and got along with those rich young ladies. She only knew how to enjoy herself. Zoe felt disgusted and his eyes became colder. "Since you don't have a plan, I want to let you study abroad." "Study abroad?" Madrigal was shocked. She was about to marry Quarmy. Going abroad would only ruin her plan. "Dad, I don't want to go abroad."

"What do you want to do then? You peers have already started work. Only you are jobless. Do you think it's interesting to live like this for the rest of your life?"

"I..." Madrigal was speechless. She looked at Yale for help.

"Madrigal wanted to find a job at that time, but she got pregnant for Moni. Later, she was sick and had been recovering at home..." Yale immediately defended her daughter.

Zoe smiled faintly. "What happened before is our fault. Now I want to compensate you and take you abroad to study further. As long as you study hard, I believe that you will definitely learn a lot."

"Why do you have to send Madrigal abroad? She is alone. What if she suffers?" Yale quickly said.

"What? Others all want to go abroad, but you treat it as suffering?" Zoe's voice raised unnaturally.

"Dad, I don't want to go abroad. I don't want to leave you." Madrigal begged.

"You don't want to leave us? What are you talking about? Do you want to stay at home with us forever?" Zoe sneered. Madrigal bowed her head and shut up. Yale quickly interrupted, "Zoe, if our daughter doesn't want to, please don't force her. I'll ask her to find a job and start working."

"The point is that Moni and Coco will move back soon. If Moni is here, Quarmy will inevitably come here. I don't think it's suitable for Madrigal to stay at home all day. I'd better send you abroad. It's good for everyone."

Madrigal bit her lip and said, "Dad, if you're worried about this, I'll move out."

"You still don't understand what I mean. If you stay here, Moni and Quarmy will feel uncomfortable." Zoe said more clearly. When he said this, Madrigal's face changed greatly. She looked at Yale and said, "Mom, I don't want to go out. I won't go out no matter what!" Yale's heart ached, but there was still a smile on her face. "Since it's for Moni, I agree. Zoe, I will persuade Madrigal."

Seeing that Yale was reasonable, Zoe's face was less grave. He ignored Madrigal, who was crying, and said, "I'll ask someone to do it right away. You'd better get ready first."

Seeing Zoe enter the study, Yale and her daughter also returned to the room. Madrigal closed the door and said with grievance, "Mom, Dad forced me to leave for Monica. I am also his daughter. How can he be so partial?"

Yale didn't say anything. Zoe used to treat her and Madrigal well, but why did he suddenly do that? Was it because Monica had returned or he had begun to suspect something?

Madrigal became more anxious when Yale did not speak. "Mom, why did you promise him just now? You should find a reason to refuse."

"Shut up." Yale frowned. "Aren't you sitting here right now? I'm just trying to slow things down. Don't worry, I won't let you go abroad." "What can you do now?" Madrigal was really anxious. "Mom, why don't we tell Dad that I'm pregnant?"

"Idiot!" Yale glared at her. "You want to die so badly? With my understanding of him, he will definitely force you to kill the child."

"Then what should we do? We're not going to tell him until the child is born?"

"There's no need to wait that long. I'll find a way out. You stay home and don't go anywhere for a few days."

Zoe frowned after entering the study. It was normal for Madrigal to cry and refuse to go out. She was used to living in Jiang City, so she would not be willing to go to a foreign country.

Yale spoiled Madrigal so much. According to common sense, she would also oppose it. Zoe thought that Yale would also cry and refuse, but she actually agreed. This was not the normal reaction of a mother. Although Yale always listened to him, he still felt strange.

While he was thinking, Lancy knocked on the door and came in with a cup of tea. She comforted him, "Mayor, don't worry. Miss will be fine."

Zoe nodded. After thinking for a while, he suddenly asked, "Is everything all right at home?"

"I didn't find anything wrong." Lancy replied.

"Hmm." Zoe said, "Pay more attention to what happened at home."

Lancy nodded and said, "I will."
