Chapter 33: More Obsessed
They reached the apartment complex. In the elevator, Byron wrapped his arms around Candice.
She jerked a little and her keys slipped out of her pocket.
The key chain was a locket with a photo of herself that Candice had taken at a photobooth back when she was in high school. She had short hair then and looked incredibly youthful.
Grazing his finger against it, Byron asked, “Is that you?”
“Yeah.”
She was indeed very pretty.
Unlike Vicky who was stunning and eye-catching because of her sultry looks, Candice was pretty and alluring, the type who seems to become increasingly beautiful the more you look at her.
“Did you have a boyfriend in high school?”
“No.”

Candice’s highly intellectual father had always been very
strict with her. Back when she was in hot pursuit of Rufus, Candice’s father even slapped her for it.
“You like men like Rufus?”
“Not anymore,” Candice answered.
“Do you like me?”
Their bodies were pressed against the wall and Byron’s breath was warm.
“I made it very clear in the ward.”
“You’re just throwing a fit to spite me.”
“I’m not Vicky,” Candice said while nudging him.
“I know.”
“I don’t play mind games.”
Byron stood behind her quietly.
“I’ll get into my next relationship with the objective of getting married. Once I settle down, I won’t break up.”

“Even if he’s not suitable for you?” he asked with pursed lips.
“I would choose not to start dating him at all if I know from the start that he’s not the one for me.”
Mature and rational adults would prefer such relationships.
It was straightforward, simple, and comfortable.
However, it was also very pressurizing.
Well because there are too many variables when it comes to love. If things are going well, they could continue dating but once the romantic feelings are gone, they could just end things peacefully and go separate ways.
However, Candice was too serious about love, so much that she caused it to become a burden.
Byron wrapped her in his arms again and buried his face in her neck. “I’m tired.”
He sounded hoa rse, despondent, and exhausted.
He wasn’t lying.
Candice had heard that Byron had been working overtime

for seventeen hours straight, with two surgeries back to back. He hadn’t gotten any sleep at all.
“Hugging me isn’t tiring?”
“You’re so unsympathetic,” he said with a bitter smile.

When she was gentle, she was incredibly docile. However, when she chooses to be aggressive, she would immediately become as feisty as a wild kitten.
Candice pushed his hands away while reminding him, “I’m still injured.”
Instead of letting go, Byron hugged her even more tightly.
“I didn’t touch your chest.”
When they reached the 11th floor, he opened the door while Candice sat down on the couch in the living room, unbuttoning her shirt graciously.
“Where’s the medicine?”
She obviously treated him purely as a doctor at the moment, without any other thoughts.
That would put an end to all his funny ideas and naughty

Byron leaned against the bedroom door without moving.
“What do you mean by this?”
“Why did you bring me back here?”
“So you could stay the night here.”
Candice paused and stared at him.
Byron burst into laughter and said, “You want to get your dressing changed at night?”
She took off her shirt and was now wearing only a tank top.
“Do it now. I’m going to stay over at Nancy’s place tonight.”
She had already contacted Nancy to inform her that she would be staying over at her place for a few days before returning home once she could remove the bandages, lest she scares Miranda.
“The medicine isn’t with me.”
“Samson handed it to you,” she said with a frown.

“He only gave me enough for the day. I’ll get the next serving when I go to work tomorrow.”
“I’ll go to the hospital to get it.”
Byron scanned her from head to toe and teased, “Is that so?”
She couldn’t withstand doing it twice a day.
Candice remained silent.
A sp icy fragrance emanated in the air, which was so overwhelming that she started retching. “What’s that smell?”
There was aroma incense burning by the window. It was Vicky’s favorite rosemary and orange bell pepper scent.
Half a month ago, she was still living here. Byron hated that smell but she insisted on keeping it because she said that a man had to remember a woman by her uniqueness.
The more unique, the more unforgettable she would be.
She wanted him to have her deeply etched in his head.
Byron was filled with frustration.

He walked over to Candice, whose scent was a stark contrast to Vicky’s. It made his heart tingle and he couldn’t resist her at all. He straightened his back and inched closer to her.
She instinctively struggled, but Byron was quicker to react, confining her in time.
“I want you today,” he said provocatively.
He had never been so straightforward.
“I’m injured…” Candice complained as she was forced against his chest.
“I know my limits.”
Her feelings for Byron were, in fact, complicated.
She liked him but she hated him too.
She hated how insincere and playful he was.
She hated him even more for being fickle and having double standards.
Candice wasn’t jealous of Vicky and she had no reason to either. At most, she was annoyed with her.

So far, she had only been jealous of Rita. After all, Rita had snat ched her husband away from her. Meanwhile, Byron wasn’t even considered her boyfriend.
He never intended to get into a serious relationship with her in the first place. If Candice couldn’t withstand it, they would just go back to being strangers who had had a one- night stand.
She didn’t want to stoop low and hold herself cheap.
Byron’s patience was wearing thin.
“How long are you going to keep this up for?”
“I’m going home.”
“You’re not done, huh?”
He pulled Candice into his arms.
At first, Byron wanted to punish her and make her stay behind to get her dressing first.
However, he couldn’t stop himself after kissing her.
She seemed to be exuding a faint herbal scent that was

completely different from the scent of perfume, shower gel, and lipstick.
To him, it was a brand-new experience.
He had long gotten used to countless surgeries and all sorts of wounds.

At this moment, he was agitated.
The bandage was covering her tender skin, which was slightly red like withered begonia.
“Professor Wilson…”
Byron was a highly skilled player and Candice couldn’t resist. the temptation at all.
At this juncture, the way she kept calling out to him was like a compulsion of desire.
Byron kissed her even more intensely.
In a moment of panic, she slapped him, only to end up missing and scratching him across the neck.
Both Byron and Candice were dumbfounded.
Chapter 33 More Obsessed
Amid the dead silence, they made eye contact.
His eyes were sinister and indifferent, which was very different from his handsome looks.
Now that he was angered, the coldness in his gaze intensified.
“You were the one who seduced me in the first place, weren’t you?”
“It was courtship, not seduction.”
“Courtship?”
He wiped the corner of his mouth. It wasn’t bleeding but it was stinging and burning up.
Now that the situation was out of control, Candice was obviously flustered. Fortunately, Byron had the decency not to retaliate.
“You backed out halfway.”
Candice was panting heavily while he was sulking.
“Did I agree to it?”

Byron grabbed her wrist and dragged her back to the bed.
She was about to climb up but he pressed her down by her legs. “I’m going to go.”
He had never been rejected by a woman before, especially to this point. For the time being, he was going to feel really embarrassed.
“After you get your dressing changed, you’re free to go wherever you want,” Byron said after fixing his clothes and leaving.
Although Candice didn’t throw any tantrums, her rationality was an absolute torment to him.
He wanted to cajole her and make up with her but after getting a divorce from Rufus, she was constantly in a tensed state of mind.
Byron was ready to sleep off the feud, but she was determined to keep him hanging.
After getting inside the car, he raised his head slightly and gazed at the window of the apartment on the 11th floor.
After waiting for a while, Candice quietly lifted the curtain and observed the situation downstairs.

They eventually made eye contact. He remained calm but she panicked and vanished, which was rather adorable to him.
She was just like a sheep in wolf’s clothing.
She was stubborn and aggressive on the surface but deep down, she was a tender, meek and vulnerable woman with a strong backbone.
Byron smiled and drove to the hotel. He checked into the room that was booked under Enos’ name and spent the rest of the night there. At seven something, he received a call from Enos who asked if he wanted to go for drinks.
“Where?”
“VIP Nobel box at Dreaming Club.”
Byron rubbed his fingers without saying anything.
Dreaming Club was run by George in the name of his driver, but it wasn’t exactly clean, though legal. Business was booming and the club was doing well.
It generated way more revenue than New Century and most of the wealthy businessmen would patronize the club on George’s account.

“I won the land in East Port,” Enos said gleefully.
Byron got out of bed and put on his belt.
“Who’s gonna be there?”
“The usual.”

Half an hour later, he met Enos at his table at the club.
Enos hadn’t expected him to show up. In the past, Byron would turn down his invitation half the time.
“Did you get a new girlfriend?”
“No, I’m not interested. I’m here for some drinks,” Byron said in a h o ar se voice, with a cigarette in his mouth.
He was really lonely and disgruntled.
“She made you upset again, huh?”
Enos felt that she really had incredible means.

doing so inadvertently and even succeeding in doing so really took great skill.
Vicky had deliberately tried to win over Byron while Candice was completely passive. Byron was the one who went overboard and lost control of his feelings.
Enos waved his hand and Polly, who was seated in the corner, got up and squatted next to him.
“Doctor Byron is in a bad mood, so comfort him well.”
Polly nodded and said, “No one is better at comforting a man than I am.”
He moved closer and sniffed her lipstick before asking, “Have you ever eaten raspberries?”
“I don’t like them, they’re too sour for me.”
“He loves them. Ask the bartender for a raspberry coc ktail.”
Polly was shocked.
There was a deeper story related to raspberries.
Vicky would not eat any fruit, except raspberries.
Chapter 33 Move Obsessed
When she was studying in France, her local classmates found out her preferences and laced her raspberry jam with
questionable condiments.
Byron happened to run into her once, and she was having an ambiguous relationship with the leader.
Later, he rented a room near her and defused a few crises for her. The man was upset and came forth to threaten Byron but eventually lost to the latter.
Late one night three years ago, Vicky knocked on his door and asked, “Why are you following me?”
At that time, Byron’s character was more composed than his peers, but not as poised as it is now. There was more or less some teenage angst within him.
Staring at Vicky, he said, “I was worried that you might be in trouble.”
“Who are you?” Vicky asked.
“I’m a theater major.”
She didn’t have an impression of him.
However, he was pretty dashing and stood out from the

“Are you a wealthy man’s son?”
“No,” Byron answered.
Vicky pursed her lips and said, “There’s nothing for us to talk about then.”
That night, Vicky’s swaying back was like a thorn in Byron’s heart.
He returned to his senses as the waiter brought up the coc ktail.
He glanced at the raspberry on the top of the glass without saying anything.
Polly asked Byron directly, “So you’re a doctor, huh?”
He twirled the cup holder, barely looking at her.
She had met plenty of men like him who liked giving others. the cold shoulder. However, most of the time, they were just pretending and would reveal their true colors with some alcohol and proactive action from the girl.
“What do you specialize in?” she asked.

“Male fertility.”
“You don’t treat women?”
“Do you have a problem?” Byron snapped, glowering at her with a frown.
Polly immediately understood what he meant. Although he didn’t spell it out loud, she knew that he was telling her to get lost.
What a strong personality he’s got.
“Doctor Byron, do you like dessert?”
“Not really,” he replied reluctantly out of courtesy.
“Do you have dessert occasionally then?”
Byron couldn’t be bothered to speak to such a superficial
woman.
Polly was leaning against his arm and blowing air into his
ear.
“I have some milk candy. It helps with hangovers,” she said.

Byron remained silent and simply focused on drinking, as if he didn’t hear her at all.
He felt that she was really oblivious.
Trying to ease the tension, Polly whipped out a milk candy and unwrapped it.
“Doctor Byron?”
He turned to the side with disgust.
She was helpless yet indignant.
Feeling dejected, Polly had no choice but to walk back to Enos.
“Mr. Enos, he refuses to budge.”
Enos had noticed everything.
“That’s just how he is,” he remarked.
He was very serious and solemn in the hospital and when he was at places like bars and clubs, he would usually be idling about.

While pouring wine, Enos asked, “Doesn’t Polly resemble Vicky?”

Byron didn’t even take a close look at her and he only looked up the moment he heard Vicky’s name.
“She does look like her,” he said calmly.
In the past, Enos would host drinking sessions where Byron would bring his own date or the former would prepare a date for him. When he did, he would pick girls that resembled Vicky.
To be specific, they were girls who had model-like faces, wavy locks, and pretentious behaviors.
As long as they fulfilled two of the criteria, they would definitely be able to stay by Byron’s side. However, he would rarely take them seriously. After holding them in his arms to sing, he would leave.
He would only make an exception if they resembled Vicky very much.
He might then continue to contact them for the next three to five days.
Patting him on his back, Enos asked, “Has your dry spell been around for a month?”

“I’m not having a dry spell,” he said nonchalantly.
“You did it with Candice?”
His anger, which had just been appeased, surged up again.
“Can’t I have other women?”
“Have you had any other women lately?” Enos said gloatingly.
Since Candice appeared, Byron’s noble restraint began to change.
He used to be able to remain unfazed in front of women who were obsessed with him and were throwing themselves at him in desperation. Yet, he was now easily riled up at the mention of Candice. He obviously didn’t get the upper hand with her.
“I’ve had lots of surgeries lately. I don’t have time for dating,” he said with composure, trying to sound as casual as possible.
The light flickered and Enos noticed the red mark on his jaw.
“You’re pretty wild,” he remarked.

All his life, he had only been slapped by two people, George and Candice.
She was clearly not outstanding in any way but for some reason, she had a strong appeal to him.
In the past few years, women have come and gone in his life, and among them, Byron resented Candice the most.
However, the more he wanted to escape, the more he became obsessed and returned to her.
Like a magnetic hole, she was constantly attracting him, gradually leading him to fall inside.
At nine o’clock, Byron got bored and got up to go out.
Enos’s bodyguard drove him past a construction site, where dozens of construction workers were rushing to make progress overnight. When Byron saw a familiar figure, he told him to pull over while he stared at the brightly lit area.
Percy was wearing a helmet and looking at some plans while directing the construction. Now and then, the manager would describe the building’s architectural plan, while the tall Percy bent over to listen. He did not have the airs of a boss and was courteous.

Afterwards, Rose crossed the parapet, handed him a bottle of water and a cell phone. Percy dialed a number, and then walked a little further away, whispering something.
His brows were raised with joy and he was grinning under the flickering lights.
Intuition prompted Byron to call Candice, and sure enough, she was engaged in a call.
He hung up and his face turned sullen.
Candice was kneeling in the bathtub, washing her calves. She didn’t strip completely to prevent her wound from getting wet.
The bathroom door was suddenly pushed open halfway through the wash, and Byron was standing right outside the door. His back was against the light so she couldn’t see his expression clearly.
She remembered locking the door, so she didn’t know how he managed to pry it open.
Candice pulled off the towel and wrapped it around herself.
“Get out,” she ordered.
