Chapter 27: Feeling Awful
Candice said truthfully, “I came to get some medication but Doctor Roger isn’t in.”
Harry walked over and poked her while winking at her. “Why are you still being shy? Didn’t you come here to show Doctor Byron concern?”
“Since when did I…”
“Be honest,” Harry interjected, stopping her from ruining the plan.
He continued, “You were in tears when you pleaded with me. You said that you’d end your life too if Byron dies of fatigue in the operating theatre.”
He turned his head and went to the trash can to pull out the fast-food bag as he went on, “You were camping here, refusing to leave. You were such a poor thing and I bought you a meal.”
Candice grabbed the bag and threw it back into the trash. before chiding, “It’s a shame you’re not a screenwriter.”
Byron looked at her, unperturbed.

Her face was irradiated and glowing, the color of her cheeks almost translucent, with tiny soft hairs in front of her delicate face. He could see how clear and flawless her skin
was.
Candice wasn’t a stunning beauty but she was the type who gets prettier the longer you stare at her.
He was lazily leaning against the window when, suddenly, he let out a laugh.
She looked at him and asked, “What are you laughing at?”
“I feel bad,” the man said with a gloomy gaze and a sullen expression.
He seemed really pale.

Candice hesitantly approached and said, “Sit down to get some rest.”
Holding onto Byron’s arm, she asked, “How about I help you get a ticket at the emergency room?”
“There’s a lot of patients. I don’t want to take up any more resources.”
With no energy left, he collapsed on top of Candice, bending

over and holding her head down for support.
“You’re too short.”
Candice glared at him and said, “I’m 5’3.”
Byron laughed and teased, “Wow, that’s really tall.”
“How tall are you?”
“I’m 6’2.”

Feeling indignant, Candice retorted, “Well, you’re a man. It’s normal for men to be taller than women.”
“Okay.” He continued to laugh.
His voice was breathtakingly alluring.
Byron thought her hair was fragrant and smooth. It was the best he had ever smelled, touched, and caressed.
“What brand of shampoo do you use?” He suddenly asked.
7
Candice used a variety of brands so she listed all of them but Byron didn’t remember a single one.
Chapter 27 Feeling Awful
She let him press his hand against her head for a while before asking, “Did you drink before you performed the surgery?”
“No, that’s against the rules.”
However, Byron reeked of alcohol and did seem slightly intoxicated.
“I took a shower.”
The sweet almond liqueur scent of his shower gel was intensified by his perspiration.
Vicky’s soaked dress smelled exactly like that on the day of the downpour.
Byron tried all the ones she used and was interested in.
It took skill to get his interest.
Candice’s skills were mediocre.
Nancy initially advised her to give up on Rufus, telling her that she should not love a man who would hurt her if she did not have the guts to get hurt.
After meeting Byron, Candice thought she had seen too

little. Rufus wasn’t capable of hurting women enough. He was nothing compared to Byron.
Byron had the ability to make a woman fall sick with great
ease.
She moved twice and exclaimed, “Doctor Harry… give me a hand!”
“He has left.”
Candice turned around, and sure enough, Harry was gone.
It’s not right to help one halfway and just leave them behind.

“Shall I walk you back to the office?”
His voice was so deep that it made her ears tickle when his breath was in her ears. “I’m off duty now. There’s someone to take over my shift.”
Candice just felt like half of her body was tingling and she asked, “What about the clinic? What time does it close?”
“Do you want me to be sick?”
It was not the case but she was in pain from him squeezing.

her breast.
“Can’t you stand straight?” she asked, unable to stand it
anymore.
“What do you think?”
After standing for thirteen hours without any food or water, it was normal that he couldn’t hang on longer.
“Are you hungry? I’ll order takeout.”
Byron closed his eyes and subconsciously rubbed his lips. across the corners of Candice’s eyes. The temperature was cool, unlike his warm palms.
“Do you want it?”
She was angered and annoyed by his hint, feeling as if the only purpose she served was being his partner in bed.
“Trust you to be thinking about that even though you’re so sick now.”
“What are you talking about?” He opened his eyes and squinted at her. “Do you want the prescription?:

“Yes…”
“What did you think I was talking about?”
She clenched her teeth and snapped, “It’s none of your business.”
Byron grunted nasally. “Women can be dirty minded after losing their virginity.”
When passing by the information desk on the first floor, they bumped into a middle-aged man and greeted each other.
“Doctor Louis.”
“Doctor Byron, do you want to get together tomorrow night? We’re going to have some rotisserie. It’s on the
department.”
Byron politely declined, “I have a personal matter to attend to recently.”
Doctor Louis looked at Candice and asked, “Who’s this?”
“A valet driver.”
Chapter 27: Feeling Awful
“My girlfriend.”
They answered almost at the same time.
Doctor Louis was dumbfounded but he soon concluded, “Your girlfriend who works as a valet driver?”
“A female friend, actually. She’s not my girlfriend yet,” Byron corrected calmly.
“Probation period, huh? She’s very pretty,” Doctor Louis said again.
He smiled and said, “Really? Well, she’s not too bad. She’s not ugly. I can make do,” he said smilingly before scrutinizing Candice.
Walking out of the clinic, Candice asked him, “Do you have a lot of female friends?”
“Not really, just a few dozen.”
“Do you have great conversations with them?”
“Not often.” Byron got in the passenger seat and fiddled with his phone. “Do you want to follow me on Instagram?”
Shaking her head, Candice said, “Not interested in becoming

He frowned slightly, “According to what you’ve just said, I have to delete all my friends and followers if we date.”
Candice didn’t bother to answer and drove him home.
When they arrived, she sent him upstairs, helped him in, and cooked him some ramen. By the time she was done with the chores, it was already late at night and she took off her apron to go to the study.
“Where’s my mom’s prescription?”
“In my briefcase.”
Candice fished it out of the briefcase compartment and said, “I’ll go now then.”
He put down his pen and asked, “Where are you going?”
“Home.”
As Byron glanced at his watch, he said, “It’s ten o’clock.”
Candice knew that he meant for her to stay the night.
Chapter 27. Feeling Awful
“No.”
She turned around and Byron chased her to the door, tugging her from behind.
“Trying to get away?”
Candice turned her back towards him.
“Am I that kind of woman?”

She really wasn’t such a woman and she didn’t like playing those dating games and tricks. When she loved someone, she would go all out. Likewise, she would take revenge against those she hated. If there was bound to be no outcome, she would just leave.
That was the reason Byron had a different attitude towards her.
He had seen too many promiscuous players who didn’t take relationships seriously.
Candice didn’t hide her intentions and while she may resort to little tricks, they weren’t overboard.
“You’re not.” Byron paused for a second before continuing, “Are you not happy with me?”
Chapter 27. Feeling Awful
Staring at him, Candice asked, “In terms of what?”
“Everything.”
“I have no experience or standards to compare to. Based on what my friends say, you should be considered great in bed.”
Men are happy to be complimented on their abilities, but Byron wasn’t too pleased at the moment.
“Except that.”
“That’s all I’m pleased with.”
“That’s all?” he asked with frustration.
Byron was hot-tempered and she didn’t want to provoke him.
“Well, you’re responsible at work, dedicated, and not promiscuous.”
He sulked, finding her words to be rather sarcastic.
He pulled her into his arms in a crazy and wild number.

While they were kissing, Candice noticed Vicky standing outside the door.
She was glowering at her hostilely in a sinister manner.
Vicky had witnessed everything.
When Byron was studying theater in France, there was a final performance that required a hug and kiss with a French. girl. Byron was absolutely disgusted at that time and eventually opted to stage the kiss.
He was strict when it came to women and would never go overboard.
Byron had kissed Candice with some tongue action just now.
Candice subconsciously dodged, not because she was guilty but because she didn’t want to get into unnecessary trouble. After all, he had initiated it.
Byron fixed his shirt, went to the living room, walked past Vicky, and said, “What are you doing back here?”
Leaning against the door, Vicky said, “This is my home. Why can’t I come back?”
“Is this house under your name?”
Chapter 27. Fawing Awful
“It’s under yours,” she said smilingly.
“We’re not married. Where did you get that theory from?” Byron said as he sat on the couch.
Vicky’s smile stiffened and she walked towards him.
Her waist wasn’t slender and her bosom and buttocks were relatively flat too. However, she had a pretty face and the figure of a super model, which made her look domineering and fierce.
Rufus’s friend, Jervis, used to be into women like her, whom he called the cream of the crop. He thought that they had cool auras.
Vicky leaned over and rubbed Byron’s neck with her hands. Her fingernails were painted with black nail polish.
“Are you really mad at me?” she asked.
He leaned back and avoided her arms while ignoring her.
Vicky flew into a rage as she felt humiliated.
“My things are still here and you brought another woman here?”
“Go pack your things.”
He said resolutely.
That was probably his true colors.
Women tend to be too preoccupied with love but men can also be simps. However, once they decide to seriously end. things once and for all, the other party wouldn’t be able to tolerate it.
“Byron, are you for real?”
He took out a cigarette but did not light it. Instead, he held it in his mouth and lit it up while staring at her.
“I won’t provide for wild women.”
His words triggered Vicky. “Have you gotten to the bottom of the truth?”
Byron looked up and said, “Isn’t it your dream to marry a rich man?”
While speaking, he lit the cigarette and took a deep drag before saying, “Vicky, you’re too eager.”
“I’m not sure why you love money to this extent. It’s not

that I can’t satisfy you, I can afford to give what they can give you. In fact, I can afford to give you even more. I just hate having to put a price tag on everything. There’s no point in that at all.”
That was the longest sentence Candice can remember Byron saying.
After that, he grew calmer and calmer, like a frozen dead
sea.
Vicky’s character was just as tough. She turned around, packed her bags, and stormed off.
Just as she was about to leave, she held onto the door kn ob and asked, “Is it only because I’m pregnant?”
Staring at the cigarette butt that was looming in the wind, he asked, “What else do you want to ask?”
Vicky didn’t end up asking any questions.
The moment the door closed, Byron’s long-suppressed emotions erupted and he slammed the ashtray.
However, this time he really did not chase after her.

That night, Candice slept in the guest room and Byron did not come in.
In the early morning she went out to check on the master bedroom and the study, only to find that the lights were out and smoke was seeping out through the bottom doorway.
It was probably smoky inside.
Candice went back to the room but she couldn’t sleep, so she sent Harry a text to briefly recount the incident.
Harry was at a new bar on Fifth Avenue tonight, which was owned by Enos’ ex-girlfriend. Thus, he was there to show his support.
Enos was good at managing his relationships. He was generous to both his current girlfriend and ex-girlfriend. He had invested $300,000 in this bar, claiming it to be the compensation for the four months of her youth that she had wasted on him.
However, he was generous on the pretext that he was to blame for the breakup. His ex had resigned to her fate and did not ask for a huge sum of money. Thus, he would help her if he could.
Harry replied: [Does the child belong to Robert?]

Candice didn’t understand the situation and asked: [Who is Robert]
–[Byron’s blood-related uncle.]
She stared at the screen for a long time, and her pupils were dilated by the shock but she gradually recovered.
The baby Vicky was carrying was Byron’s cousin. It was too complicated.
Recalling the scene just now, Candice sent another voice message. “If she’s willing to abort the child, maybe they won’t break up.”
However, Vicky had a hard time getting a ticket to the marriage with a wealthy man. She wouldn’t ruin her own chances.
However, Harry didn’t think that Byron would bear to give Vicky the cold shoulder.
Most men had unforgettable lovers, who were usually the cause of relationship breakdowns.
He said to Enos next to him, “It’s over.”
The dance floor was deafening, so Enos did not hear him

clearly.
“What’s over?”
Harry picked his ear and yelled, “Byron and Vicky! She has moved out of Bourland Villa!”
Enos thought that Vicky was a slu tty and pretentious gold- digger who was an absolute snob that would size up every single person at a social setting to see which designer labels they were wearing. He hated her.
There was nothing wrong with being materialistic but she was being too detestable for being obsessed with it and taking money out of men’s pockets to feed her vanity.
“That calls for a celebration. Ask Byron out for a drink,” Enos said as he clinked glasses.
“There was a major surgery during the day, and he stood for more than ten hours. He must be exhausted now, so don’t bother him.”
In fact, Byron was very tough and he had set the record of completing three consecutive surgeries. Harry was just making up an excuse to create opportunities for Candice.
There was an emotional foundation for Byron and her, and as long as Vicky didn’t get in the way, things would work out
Chapter 27. Feeling Awful
for them sooner or later.
However, on the other hand, the two of them had a peaceful night.
One wasn’t in the mood while the other had yet to come to a conclusion.
Candice was about to leave in the morning when Byron pulled open the door and asked, “Where are you going?”
He had washed up and his short hair was neatly combed. It was now shiny and smooth.
Byron’s hair was in good shape, and there seemed to be nothing about him that was out of place.
Candice said, “I’m going back to the office.”
“I’ll give you a lift,” he said as he walked towards the foyer to change out of his shoes.
“You’re not going to the hospital today?”
“I’ll go after I drop you off.”
“You’re pretty free.”
Chapter 27 Feeling Awful
Byron glared at her and said, “I’m delaying my schedule to drop you off first.”
Candice remained silent.
She couldn’t hold her tongue any longer when he drove through the intersection.
“I’m divorced. I’m a woman with a bad history,” she said.
Her divorce wasn’t a clean break either.
The property had not been divided and she hadn’t taken revenge yet. Besides, Rufus wasn’t the type to take it lying down.
He would suck anyone he latches onto dry, like a leech.
Candice felt that any man would avoid her complicated situation.
Byron obviously had not suffered the wrath of society and the grievances of ordinary people.
She had to remind him.
Focusing on driving, Byron said, “There’s no difference between living together as a non-married couple and

“Do I look like I’m great at life?”
