Chapter 9 He Must Be In Control
Francesca took a small step back when she felt the dangerous aura coming from him, but she quickly regained her composure and flashed him a faint smile. “Surely, you’re not so petty that you’d stop your ex–wife from coming to wish your father happy birthday?”
Cofton laughed sarcastically. “Did the Beckman family send you?”
The Beckman family has declined in power over the years and desperately tried to reconnect with the Zeller family. Are they planning on resorting to their old tricks
now?
Naturally, Francesca knew what he was thinking when she heard that.
Her expression grew cold all of a sudden. “I have no connection with the Beckman family anymore, so you don’t have to worry about getting involved with me, Mr. Zeller,” Francesca said while swirling the wine glass nonchalantly.
She then turned around and got ready to leave.
The next thing she knew, a large hand grabbed her wrist all of a sudden and covered her mouth before she could scream. Colton then scooped her into his arms and carried her to a secluded area of the corridor.
Francesca was so shocked that she instinctively reached out to slap Colton across the face.
However, Colton caught her hand mid–swing with a gloomy expression.
He effortlessly grabbed Francesca’s hand and held it high above her head. His warm breath fell upon her neck as he said, “The Zeller residence is not a place where you can just come and go as you please.”

Despite the suggestive position they were in, Francesca’s heart was filled. with nothing but anger. “Colton, we’ve been divorced for five years now! You’d better show some respect!”
“Respect?” Colton sneered maliciously as he continued, “Did you show met respect when you drugged me five years ago?”
Francesca’s face turned pale at the mention of what happened five years
ago.
While Colton was briefly distracted by his flashbacks, he subconsciously tightened his grip on her wrist.
Both Zeller Group and the Zeller family had been firmly under his control ever since he took over the company, and there had been no unexpected changes or unforeseen circumstances.
Francesca was the only variable in the equation.
Colton neither liked nor approved of having variables, so he still wanted to keep Francesca under his control even though he disliked her.
Sensing the change in his gaze, Francesca flashed him a mysterious smile and said, “You keep telling me that playing hard to get doesn’t work on you, Mr. Zeller, but your actions seem to suggest otherwise.”
Her voice was soft and gentle, and each word felt like a light tickle on his
cars.
Colton’s eyes narrowed as he pushed Francesca away with a forceful swing of his arms.
Having been released from his grip, Francesca quickly put some distance between them. The smile on her face faded as she added with a hint of sarcasm, “You seem to have become less of a gentleman after our five years of separation, Mr. Zeller.”

Cotton immediately realized that she was just putting up an act when he saw how quickly her expression had changed.
He then casually straightened his posture, all while keeping his sharp gaze fixated on Francesca “What exactly are you trying to do?”
Francesca lightly massaged her wrist as a faint red mark appeared on her fair skin.
There was a glint of darkness in her eyes as she grew increasingly
impatient with Colton. “I probably wouldn’t be able to escape if this were the old me standing before you. But now…”
Her smile was so confident that Colton felt as though he had lost control over something, and that was a feeling he hated the most.
It was just like the time he heard the news of his parents‘ accident years ago. That was the first time in his life when he was not in control of things.
The look on Francesca’s face suddenly grew solemn at the thought of that.
She straightened her dress and stared directly at him as she said, “This is the last time I’ll say this, I don’t care if you believe it or not, but I was not the one who drugged you that day.”
After saying that, Francesca tossed her hair over her shoulder and walked off.
Colton clenched his fist tightly as he stared at her slender and graceful figure from behind.
