Daughter of the Mafia's Consigliere

Chapter 35

Marianne Pov.

I opened my eyes slowly, the bright sunlight shone through my eyes and I felt a sharp pain in my hands. I tried to move as I mastered the environment, realizing it was the hotel.

The pain from my hands made me look at it and see my hand bandaged. That's when It rushed down to me. The crimes, the gunshots, the screams at the club, and the sight of Ricardo into me and screaming my name before I passed out. I sighed trying to sit down.

Ricardo did save my life and I think I owe him a thank you.

Remembering everything brought a tense state to me and for a minute, I was panicking. What if I had died? Why didn't I just mind my business instead of trying to follow Ricardo?

Ahhh, so many regrets but it already happened. I tried to get off the bed but the sudden bangs from the door stopped me.

I hastily looked up, trying to find something to protect myself as I couldn't get over the trauma of what happened at the club.

"What if... no, I can't die."

The door opened revealing the angry sight of Ricardo.

I don't know if I am getting used to his cold facial expressions or the stern looks on his face, but this look doesn't make me feel scared.

I need to talk to him, I need to thank him for saving my life, again.

"Um... Ricardo, I..." I tried to say but a thunderous shout from him made me stop and flinched.

His veins were popping out and his hands curled into fists.

"Shut it up, Marianne! It was just a simple instruction! Stay away from me and mind your own business! But I guess that was too hard for your strong head to ever listen!" Ricardo shouted and I swear I had never seen him this mad. Maybe I was wrong for even trying to thank him. He will always remain the same mean, arrogant grumpy Mafia.

"Did you know what you caused me? An entire failure is all you caused me! Because of you, my Dad will be disappointed in me! He always believed I was never enough and all thanks to you! You proved him right." Ricardo spat and his words were beginning to influence me.

His eyes were bold red as he pointed his fingers at me like he would slap me any moment.

"Ricardo... I didn't mean for any of this to happen, believe me." I muttered, hoping it would at least calm him down but my words made him even angrier, I could tell by how he looked at me.

He started coming closer to me and I moved back in fear. He leaned closer, I could feel his strong herculean of breath on me.

"Then why would you follow me?" He shouted.

"I went to the club to cool off my head. Believe me, I swear I had no intentions to follow you. I was just curious and..."

"Look what your curiosity caused me!" He thundered, and his saliva landed on my face.

I closed my eyes as tears fell from my eyes.

"You are just so useless and arrogant and I regret not allowing that gun to hit your skull, at least I would have achieved something, getting rid of one of my problems." He ranted.

So, I am one of his problems and he wishes to get rid of me. His words were like a sharp sword being pierced into my chest.

I don't know why but I hurt so much that he felt I was so useless and he spelled that out loud and clear to my ears.

I might be wrong for following him but I was worried he was going to be in some kind of danger, I only cared. But that's what my care resulted in; anger, bitterness, and insult from Ricardo.

The pain I was feeling from my hands suddenly goes away as there is something more painful, his words.

"I'm sorry." I managed to mutter, my lips trembling.

"Well, your sorry cannot fix the mission that your appearance made me lose. Now that's why Kathy will forever be better than you, at least she is not a poor coward who can't even protect herself. I always had to protect you, you are just a burden to me." Ricardo yelled.

I closed my eyes as tears rolled down. Exhaling deeply, anger struck me.

"I never asked you to save me in the first place! You said you should have let me die, that I was a useless coward and a burden to you right?..." I paused and got off the bed and a plate, a spoon, and a knife were resting on a table.

I picked the knife and stared at it for some seconds, before making my way back to Ricardo. His eyes trailed behind me as I walked, maybe he was trying to get a glimpse of what I was up to.

"Then end my life! Come on! Kill me, if that will make up for what I did." I shouted, pinning the knife on him.

"Come on! I said kill me!" I shouted, dragging the knife with him as he tried to let go of it.

"You are crazy!" He spat and threw me on the bed, so hard that I feared my spinal cord would break.

My hair was all over my face as it stuck, getting a mixture of tears and sweat and frustrations.

Ricardo's breath was high, he glanced at me one more time.

"You better not make anything worse than it already is!" He warned before storming out of the room, banging the door loudly behind me.

The bangs felt like it was banged together with my chest. I fell on the ground, slowly reminiscing how my Mom literally ruined my life.

Nothing is interesting in the Mafia world and nothing is interesting about my life entirely.

I tried to ignore it and accept my fate, leaving Oliver in the process, hurting the only man who genuinely loved me all for Ricardo.

I was a fool, I should have taken that so-called open relationship seriously and never broken up with Oliver.

I wiped the tears from my eyes as I made my way to the bathroom. Staring at the mirror and looking at how pathetic I am and my life.

I sniffed and slowly turned on the tap, then washed my face, as that had brought some level of relief to my burning heart.

*Two days later*

It's been two days since I last saw Ricardo after he banged the door on me.

The incident that happened a few days ago was still fresh in my heart and so were his words. I seriously appreciate not seeing him at all as that is more peaceful.

I was having breakfast, as usual, alone on my supposed Honeymoon. Thanks to Mom, her daughter is very happy. Of course, I was just being sarcastic.

The door opened and I expected it to be a server or something but it's Ricardo. My heart skipped immediately.

He still looks the same. A cold face and a stern look, but he looked a bit calmer than two days ago.

Oh, my hand, it got healed up, thanks to an ointment Ricardo left for me on the desk.

He walks in robotically and this time, I don't know what he has for me. I tried to maintain my calm but boy was I scared in my heart.

"Um... good morning." I greeted, stammering.

He lifted his gaze and placed his eyes on me.

"Park your things. We are leaving for the General Mansion." Those were the words that came out of his mouth.

Well, the General Mansion is much better than suffocating alone in this so-called hotel in the name of Honeymoon.

Yikk, disgusting.

"I said, park your things! We are leaving!" He shouted

"Sure... sure!" I was startled and immediately got up and like I was being controlled by his words, I rushed to the dressing room and dressed up immediately, my body vibrantly shaking.

I was not able to zip up my gown because my hand still kind of hurt. I heard footsteps behind me and I saw Ricardo in the mirror.

I ignored him and continued struggling to zip up my gown when I felt his hand on mine, slowly zipping my gown.

I look through the mirror and our eyes meet. I look away quickly.

"Tha... Thank you," I muttered, but as expected, he didn't reply.

He took the bags while I glanced at the room, rejoicing inside me that the end of our very sweet Honeymoon had ended. Yeah, sweet indeed!

He led us outside and I watched him hand an envelope to the receptionist after dropping the key, maybe a token of appreciation.

We then headed to the car, he used the key and pressed a button and the booth opened.

He then dropped the bags in the car trunk. I entered the car and he did too, before zooming out of the hotel promises.
