Cupid's Arrow hit me hard!

The knocking on the door stopped and then resumed.

Duncan neither responded nor did he open the door.

It was unclear how much time passed before the knocking resumed.

It was followed by the sweet voice of Sonny.

"Dunc, are you in the room? Are you asleep or awake? Can you open the door for me? I'm holding a tray, it's very heavy, and my arms are sore from carrying it. Dunc, please come out and help me.

"Dunc, my mom is on a business trip, and she didn't take me with her. She asked me to stay at home with Aunt Seren and Uncle Zak. I feel sad because my mom didn't take me. I want to cry. Dunc, can you hold me and let me sit on your lap while I cry?"

After Sonny finished speaking, he really started crying loudly.

Serenity watched in astonishment.

When did this kid learn to act?

He was acting quite convincingly.

Duncan heard Sonny's cries from inside his room. In less than two minutes, Sonny started wailing again. Thinking that Sonny was crying for real, Duncan immediately took action.

Initially lying in bed, Duncan sat up and attempted to move to his wheelchair. However, the wheelchair was not right next to his bed. It was lying toppled over nearby.

In his frustration before, he overturned the wheelchair.

It was now a couple of feet away from him.

For a normal person, this would be just a few steps, but for Duncan in his current condition, it was not feasible. He needed to take a few steps, rest, and then repeat the process.

This took a considerable amount of time.

He felt distressed for Sonny, not wanting to hear him cry.

Especially with Sonny crying so loudly, he was afraid Sonny might lose his voice if he cried for too long.

Duncan could not accompany Liberty to Jensburg and help her with her troubles, but at least, he could take care of Sonny and ensure he was safe.

That was the only thing he could do for her at the moment.

Duncan struggled to take a few steps but could not support himself, so he sat on the ground. Despite his urgency, he could not afford any more delay and resorted to crawling. He crawled out of the bed to where his overturned wheelchair lay on the floor. After flipping the wheelchair upright, he grabbed onto it to pull himself into a standing position and then sat down in the wheelchair.

Soon, Duncan, in the wheelchair, went to open the door for Sonny.

To his surprise, Sonny held a tray in his hands, featuring a plate piled with plenty of food, almost completely covering the plate itself.

Witnessing this, Duncan quickly took the tray from Sonny's hands, saying, "Sonny, why are you carrying a tray? With so many adults around, why let a little child like you do this?"

Sonny was only a little over three, and he was still not strong. Although he could lift a plate of food, this should not be the responsibility of a three-year-old.

"Me, Aunt Seren, and Uncle Zak are here to visit Dunc. Grandma told me that Dunc hadn't eaten anything today. I was worried that Dunc would get hungry, so I volunteered to bring you food." The little one was getting very articulate recently.

Sometimes, he would even shock Liberty with his words. He was getting wiser beyond his years.

Duncan's heart melted. When he extended his hand to caress Sonny's face, he noticed that there were no tears. He then knew that the child's loud cry was just a ruse.

He then lightly pinched Sonny's cheeks and teased, "You deceived me. You cried so loud, yet there's not a single tear on your face."

Sonny asked in response, "Do you wish to see me cry louder, Dunc?"

"I don't. I want to see you happy every day."

Sonny looked up and said, "That's the spirit."

Duncan chuckled at Sonny's proud expression and playfully pulled Sonny up to set him down on his lap.
