Chapter 1
Waking with a start, I jumped out of bed. My heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to explode out of my chest. With all the terror I felt, I was losing hold of myself. My blue eyes beginning to sparkle, the way they do when I “change.”
“Get yourself together,” I said. “You can’t let mom and Katherine see you like this.”
Somehow my mom and my sister are both normal human beings, but I ended up like this, a werewolf. The only possible way I can figure out how this happened is if my father was one as well. I never knew my dad, he died when I was very young. Since my mom is human there is no possible way I got it from her so I must have gotten the genes from my dad, or else that’s how I’m taking it. I’m pretty new at this whole werewolf thing being that the first time I changed was just this past year.
I ended up with this curse that has affected my whole life. I can’t be normal anymore. Both my mom and sister don’t even know that I am a werewolf. They think that I’m just a troubled eighteen-year-old who hangs out with the wrong crowd. This crowd being my pack of werewolves, well per se they aren’t “my” pack. I’m pretty much the omega in the group. I’ve got the lowest ranking amongst them all. Pretty sure it’s because I’m female, just saying. I’m always the last in everything. When we go hunting, I’m the last to feed, even if I make the kill myself. Kind of bogus if you ask me. When there’s a pack meeting I’m not even allowed to speak. It’s alright though, I’ve grown used to it. The alpha of our pack, Adolph, pretty much taught me everything I know about who I am. He took me in when I needed someone the most. He saved me from wanting to take my own life. For this, I owe him, even if it means not being appreciated for anything I do.
According to Adolph, female werewolves are worthless in our society. Packs are ashamed to have us with them. That’s why you don’t see many around. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to find a pack who will at least look at me like I’m worth something to the group, however small that may be. I like to believe we even have a small friendship built.
“Calla!” My mom yelled from below causing me to jump out of my skin.
“Yes?” I responded.
I waited, no response.
“Seriously?” I thought to myself, hating that my mom never answers after she calls my name.
After a few minutes of eerie silence, I got dressed into my leather pants and jacket and walked down the stairs to the kitchen. Since my father passed away, my mom has always had trouble living. She never remarried or found anyone else to love. My mother and father were inseparable, or so I hear from the townsfolk. My mother suffers from a broken heart and has never been fully the same since the incident that resulted in his death.
The size of our house is extremely small. Having only one true bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. My mom and sister share the bedroom while I sleep in the attic. Yeah, not very sanitary, but I can’t share a room, not with the condition I have. I can’t risk exposure and endangering their lives. My poor mother tries her best to support our family, but ever since dad, she hasn’t been herself. With her mental condition, she can’t work. She makes our clothes for us being that we can’t afford to pay for any. We even have to grow our own food with our small farm big enough to support only ourselves and make a small income to survive off of. It’s tearing her apart, I know it is. She’s trying so hard, but she’s just sinking further and further into despair.
Our kitchen is very tiny with one stove, a microwave, a sink, and some oak wooden counters. The walls are filled with ugly floral decorations I wish I could tear off. A ceiling fan spins in circles on the roof spreading dust amongst the air. On a positive note, at least it cools us off. Being that it was the middle of June in Minnesota, the weather can get insanely hot. Unfortunately, with the lack of income, we can’t afford air conditioning so we resort to one ceiling fan in the kitchen. It makes due and gets the work done. Besides, I’m always hot anyway from the whole inner wolf scenario.
Standing at the counter, my mother was hand washing the dishes. A stack of plates, silver wear, and pans was sprung amongst the counter. Thinking back to yesterday, I remembered that it was my job to wash those in which I was supposed to complete before today. “
Oops,” I thought, and began to slowly creep away from her.
My mother then spotted me and said.
“Calla Anne Day! I told you to do these dishes last night! Explain yourself! What were you doing that was so important?
“I’m sorry mother, I forgot, it won’t happen again.”
“Yeah right,” she boomed.
Her face showing just how furious she was. For a small human, she could look quite terrifying if she wanted to. Personally, I would rather take on one of the pack members than my own mother right now.
“That’s what you said last time. Again, I ask, what were you doing?” She stared at me menacingly.
“Nothing,” I retorted, not entirely truthful.
In truth, I was with my pack, but I can’t tell her that information nor especially what we were doing.
“You were with “them” again weren’t you,” she questioned me.
Her brows furrowed in anger, her blue eyes squinting. She rose her fingers in a quote around the word them. I made no response, not knowing what to say only that I didn’t want to lie to her unless absolutely necessary.
“Weren’t you?” She pushed further.
Again. I made no response.
“That’s it!” She roared.
The plate she was washing soared out of her hands, unto the floor, shattering into millions of tiny pieces. One-piece flew over to me and embedded itself in my arm. I quickly removed it before my mom could notice. Not that I cared if she noticed that she hurt me, but because I was already healed from the incident which would spark some questions. One of the benefits of being a werewolf is that we have superhuman healing. Hence why I healed almost instantaneously.
“I am so sick of your lies Calla,” she blared. “I don’t even know who you are anymore. You are a disgrace to this family. All you do is hurt us and push us away. Just go, do what you always do. All those drugs you probably take and places you rob. Just go, I don’t even want to look at you right now."
Tears began to fill her blue eyes. Pain stabbed my heart, throbbing. She couldn’t mean what she said, she just couldn’t.
“Mom,” I pleaded taking a small step towards her.
“No!” she yelled, “go!” “Get out of here!”
I then turned around and exited the front door in a hurry.
Wet tears exploded from my blue eyes. Did she really mean what she said? Am I really a disgrace to my family? I keep the secret from them for their own protection, but it is getting ever so difficult. Day by day I have to push them further and further away. I can’t keep doing this, lying to them. I need to go talk to my pack about letting me tell them. They will understand, they have to. There is no other way.
Pulling out my cellphone, I scroll through my contacts. It’s pathetic really. Since my life has been turned upside down by this whole inner wolf thing, my social life is nonexistent. All of my contacts are solely the members of my pack. Just as I was about to call my alpha, I was grabbed from behind. My white phone dropping into the mud, splashing against my leg, as I panicked. My heightened senses kicked in. My heart began to race faster, my eyes shining letting my wolf seep through. My long claws extending in the palm of my hand. I smelt the air, and it was then that I realized I wasn’t in any real danger and began to relax.
“Rafiq really,” I said annoyed. “How many times do I have to tell you about sneaking up and grabbing me like that?”
I turned around and slapped his broad chest, fingers extended. A low laugh rumbled from deep inside him, causing my hands to vibrate.
“You should have seen the look on your face!” He said as he bent down to pick up my dropped cell phone.
“Thanks,” I said taking it from him and wiping the mud off.
Rafiq has always been my closest friend in the group. He’s the most down-to-earth one around. Although all four other group members love being who they are, Rafiq seems to be the one who wouldn’t mind being just human. He also doesn’t treat me like I’m just “there.” He actually makes me feel that I have a purpose within the group. Rafiq has light brown color hair in human form and a red color coat in wolf form. He has dark brown eyes and he’s a little under six feet tall making him one of the shorter members amongst the pack. The thing with werewolf eyes is that what you have in your human form transforms into your wolf. The only difference is that the wolf eyes glow and have a sparkle to them that the human eyes don’t possess.
“So, who were you calling?” He asked.
“Adolph,” I responded. “Any idea where he’s at?”
“Yep, that’s why I’m here, he wanted me to fetch you,” Rafiq answered.
“Why?” I asked.
“He needs you to explore this new land that we found.”
"Why me?”
He looked me directly in the eyes and said “heightened sense of smell remember?”
“Oh, yeah great. You can have it if you want.”
For some reason, in my wolf form, all of my senses are heightened that above those of the others. This makes it that I have to do all the packs “dirty” work for them. Such as hearing for prey and smelling around in new territory to see if it’s safe.
“Dude!” Rafiq responded. “I’d take your mad powers if I could. Don’t joke like that!”
He flashed me a smile and gently punched my arm. “Now come on before you get us in trouble.” He said. He took my hand and began walking me to the woods.
Deep inside the woods, I stopped and asked, “where exactly are we going?”
“I’m not entirely sure, he told me to go get you and meet the pack in the middle of the woods.”
“Hmm ok,” I responded.
For a minute Rafiq stopped and looked at me. His deep brown eyes looked directly into mine his face full of concern.
“Were you ok earlier?” he asked. “When I first saw you, it looked as if you were crying.”
I looked away from him ashamed. I shouldn’t have let my emotions seep through, what was wrong with me? I have to keep my emotions at bay. I’m supposed to be tough and things like this aren’t supposed to make me upset. If Adolph found out, he’d be furious and embarrass me in front of all the others. He’d think that I was pathetic and such a baby. “Maybe I am.” I thought to myself.
“Don’t worry,” Rafiq said. “I’m not going to tell the others, I just wanted to make sure you’re ok. I worry about you and I really do care about you. You don’t deserve how the rest treat you. You are far more strong and powerful than you think.”
“Thank you, Rafiq, it means a lot honestly.”
He gave me a small smile and began walking forward once more through the thick brambles.
Finally, we made it to the middle of the woods. It was a long ten-mile trek to reach our destination. Having to climb over brambles and other obstacles slowed us down taking us longer to get there. “You know Calla, we should have just transformed into our wolves. We could have been there in minutes, not an hour.” Said Rafiq.
“Oh well, they can wait and learn patients. It’ll do them good.” I said.
“Right go ahead and tell them that, I want to watch and see what they say to that,” Rafiq replied rolling his eyes.
“Fine, I’ll tell them.”
“Good luck.”
For this remark, I stuck my tongue at him and he flashed me a white smile.
The woods are full of dense trees. This is where we love to go hunt and run. It protects us from the humans since nobody goes back here even during hunting season. This land is private property, so nobody trespasses. Nobody in our pack owns this land, we are told that somebody from the city owns it but we don’t stress about being caught because we have never caught any scent of him nor ran into him.
For some odd reason, this location in the woods had no trees and had short almost trimmed like grass. I gave Rafiq a puzzling look. This didn’t look right. He shook his head and raised his shoulder giving me the same puzzled expression. I spotted the rest of the pack. The four of them standing in a circle in their human form. Slowly, Rafiq and I both began to walk towards them prepared to get yelled at for the length of time it took us to get here. Our alpha, Adolph, is a tall broad man standing at six feet five inches. Way taller than my small skinny five-foot-five frame. Adolph has jet black hair and golden-brown skin color. His eyes are a golden yellow hue. In his wolf form, his coat is black with a mixture of silver. My own opinion is that it makes him look old, but I’d never tell him that. I don’t have a death wish even if I can be a little sarcastic at times.
Everyone in our pack ranges from the age 18, myself being the youngest, to age 24, our alpha. Rafiq is 20 years old turning 21 in July. Thorn and Donavan are both 22, and Andrew is 23. They all like to make fun of me and call me a “baby,” but I tend to ignore them. Not my fault they are all old compared to me.
Walking to the center of the group, Adolph spotted me and gave me a grunt rolling his eyes.
“Finally decided to show up?” His angry tone piercing my ears like a whip. “You know there is a thing called you have four legs use them. Quit being so immature always sticking to your human form, it’s getting infuriating. Grow up already.”
Fury bubbled up inside me. I wanted to lash out at him, he wasn’t being fair. I love my wolf, but sometimes I just want to be normal. Is that so bad for a girl to ask for? I bit my tongue refraining from yelling at him. Since he’s my alpha, it’s not my place to yell at him. I could be seriously punished both verbally and physically for partaking in such an act.
The others' laughter erupted around us, circling us. It fueled my anger further. They were trying to make me transform into my wolf. I wasn’t going to let that happen and give them the satisfaction of winning. I buried my nails in the palm of my hand, lifted my head up, and walked toward them, ignoring them.
Thorn, the skinniest of all the men said,
“What’s the matter Calla, don’t like your wolf? Do you want it to leave so you can live with mommy for the rest of your life?” He said in a mocking tone that made my ears boil with hatred.
I simply replied, “Thorn, you’re a dick.” Giving him a smirk.
“Hey, they say you are what you have right?” His green eyes flashed as he pushed his long blond hair from his eyes.
“Wow,” I responded. “And you said I’m immature.”
“Ok, that’s enough!” Adolph’s voice broke out silencing whatever Thorn’s big mouth was going to say next. “Calla, seriously next time hurry up. We aren’t here to wait on you. Know your place and duty amongst the pack.”
I huffed and said “fine,” rolling my eyes.
“WHAT?!” Adolph said, pissed that I talked to him like that.
“Yes sir,” I said as I curtsied.
I really hate this whole low-rank status thing. It pisses me off. I’m not just some toy to be played with.
“Now forgetting about her.” His eyes darted to me and quickly looked away. “We have a very important task to do today. Earlier we discovered some new land here and we need you to use your sense of smell to see if anyone else was on it.”
“Are you sure someone doesn’t own it already, I mean we can’t just “discover”,” I put in air quotes, “land and it’s automatically ours? You can’t just kick the people who already live here off of it.”
“Sure we can, and did I ask for your opinion Calla?” Adolph said.
I raised my arms in disbelief. “Really?!” I said shaking my head.
“No, I did not,” Adolph said. “Now, this is what is going to happen. We are all going to transform into our wolf counterparts and we are going to explore the land. We are going to stick together, just in case something happens. Make sure to smell every tree and listen for any signs of danger. You should all know what to do, well except for Calla.”
At this point, I just gave up and ignored him. The snickers broke out amongst the group once more.
“In case there is trouble, I want the first thing you guys do is fight. I want no hesitation whatsoever. Do you guys hear me?”
All of the pack said “Yes, sir,” except for me.
I said nothing at all. Thankfully, I don’t think they noticed. Except for Rafiq who nudged me and gave me a questioning look. I don’t believe in violence especially if it’s not necessary. It’s not that I don’t know how to fight, that I’m actually quite skilled at, contrary to what many people think. It’s that everyone deserves a fair chance. Unlike the others who enjoy and love bloodshed, I prefer to question and address my enemies first before I make any rash decisions.
I just looked at him and shrugged my shoulders. He looked away from me and focused his attention back on Adolph. I followed his lead and did the same. I couldn’t believe everyone could be so mellow about attacking others. It isn’t like we are defending our territory. We don’t even own this part of the woods. Technically, we don’t own ANY part of the woods. We just keep scent markers on it so other werewolves will stay away.
“Ok everybody, let us transform,” said Adolph.
Before I knew it everybody began to take off their clothes. I myself am not comfortable changing in front of others. For this reason, I begin to turn around to go behind one of the trees for cover.
“Where do you think you’re going, Calla?” Said Adolph.
“Just behind the tree, I will be back in one minute.”
This made Adolph laugh. “You don’t have to be embarrassed, I mean you don’t have the best body I’ve seen but it’s not too bad either.”
This statement made my cheeks flush red in embarrassment. I had no idea as to whether take this as a compliment or be upset that he said my body wasn’t that good looking. I continued on my way as the others laughed and whistled. Oh, how I wished they could learn to at least respect me.
Standing behind one of the tall maple trees, I began to slowly take off my leather outfit. I can’t believe they are making me do this. Invading someone else’s territory to expand our own. This is wrong to me on so many different levels. Once I took off my outfit, I began to force my body into the change. The first thing that happens to my body is my eyes begin to change to their shimmery blue color. Then my nails begin to grow in size and shape. Tremors rock my entire body causing agonizing pain. Since I’m still new to this process, my body takes a while longer than the rest of them to change. Spasms of my muscles cause my body to fall onto my hands and knees. In the distance, I hear Andrew call out in his wolf form,
“Hurry up Calla, it’s not that hard!”
My eyesight goes black from the pain and before I know it I’m transformed into my wolf.
I come out from behind the trees to rejoin my pack. Every one of them was in their wolf form just sitting there impatiently for me. It wasn’t like it took me that long to transform, I’m just not into the whole rip-off our clothes and go type of person. All of their eyes were on me as I made my trek towards the center of the group.
“Did it take you long enough?” Said Donavan.
I just rolled my wolf eyes and sat down with my tail wrapped around my front white paws.
It seems to me like the most popular wolf fur color is grey. Thorn, Andrew, and Donovan all have grey coats. There are some minor differences between the three. Andrew’s coat contains the most amount of black, then thorn, and finally Donavan. Rafiq has a beautiful reddish coat that seems to shine in the sunlight. I’ve seen other images of werewolves around and most of the time they are all grey with a few reddish fur coats. I honestly hardly ever see black and even more rarely, white. I feel as though having a white coat is a disadvantage. Well at least in the summer. It seems like I’m so easily spotted out for my coat color and that the others hate my white coat. It makes me feel ugly inside. Personally, I love having a white coat, but to the others, they find it more of an annoyance.
Before I realized it, everyone was already on their way entering the new territory. I must have been too busy thinking about my fur coat I didn’t even realize everyone left.
“Get moving Calla!” Adolph’s voice breaking my thoughts.
Quickly, I scurried to my feet and began running towards them. How could I always be so dumb? The others hate me enough, well except for Rafiq. I need to learn how to focus on them better. I can’t keep making mistakes like this. The more mistakes I make the more they will think that I’m worthless.
Entering the enemy territory, I was hit with a wave of werewolf smell. There was no way that the others didn’t smell this. It was overwhelming. Whoever put this here did not want anyone trespassing on it.
“Adolph!” My voice yelled out. “We shouldn’t be here; can’t you smell the territory marker?”
He just turned his big black wolf head and me and gave me a smirk.
“I told you it’s ours now just ignore the markers," Adolph said smirking.
I opened my mouth in dismay. My entire gut instinct was telling me this was wrong, that we didn’t belong here. I knew that danger must be near. Every bone, every nerve in my body could sense it.
The others went to smell the nearby tress and mask up the unknown groups' smell with ours. They looked as if it didn’t bother them at all taking over a property that wasn’t ours. Donovan even had a smile masking his face. I couldn’t believe them, especially Rafiq. This was not like him at all, or so I thought. This was the first mission I’ve ever been on with them. Usually, they keep me at home not wanting me to interfere with their work. It was “Man” work, or so they claimed. They probably didn’t want me to voice my opinion on things that were wrong.
Since I’ve only been a werewolf for a few months, I’m still learning all the rules and regulations. From the little I know, this is definitely going against the law. Werewolves are supposed to abide by others' scent markers, not destroy them. All werewolves try to be a friendly and independent group, sticking to their packs for socialization. Usually, there is no conflict between packs as long as everyone does what they are supposed to do. Well, at least this is what I’ve been told by the group members, who knows if it’s true at all.
All of a sudden, my senses tingled. My ears pricked forward and I became alert standing in my defense position. I smelled the air, a scent that I knew of quite well. A pack of werewolves was coming, the ones who own this land. At least eight of them, two more than our pack.
Adolph’s voice broke out “Someone’s coming!” “Attack!” he screamed.
Before thinking my body went into automatic. Instead of running towards the enemies, I dove in the front of our group blocking their onset to attack.
“What are you doing?” Said Adolph in an unfriendly tone. “Get out of the way or I’ll just run through you.”
“Seriously Calla, move,” said Rafiq.
This stung a little. Usually, Rafiq is nice and gentle to me, not this harsh tone he was possessing. Usually, he would question me about what I was doing before accusing me.
A whistle from behind me diverted my attention. I turned around to see the eight werewolves that emerged from behind the trees. They were bigger than our group of werewolves, much stronger. I knew that we couldn’t win a fight against them even if we tried, and for a fact, I knew that Adolph definitely would try. Adolph is quite large muscular-wise, but not as big as these. Just like our group, there was one black male, one red male, and the rest all grey. In this group, they didn’t have a female, probably for the fact that a female would be a disgrace to them.
One of the werewolves who whistled, the one with the red coat, voice broke out even though I’m not quite sure where.
“Looks like they got themselves a female, an alpha nonetheless.”
I just gave them a puzzled look and responded with a sarcastic tone.
“So what if I’m a female, and alpha you’re funny, more like omega,” I said laughing that they could be so stupid.
This caused them all to raise their eyebrows with a puzzling look directed toward the wolf in black.
“I didn’t say that out loud did I guys? How did she hear me? The red coat questioned.”
“Umm, how couldn’t I hear you?” I responded. “You pretty much yelled it to me, you might want to work on being a little quieter if you’re going to talk about someone behind their back.”
Rafiq’s voice broke out and said, “Calla, who are you talking to?” “Nobody said anything, are you ok?”
I faced Rafiq and gave him a puzzling look. “Can’t you hear them?” He simply shook his head and looked at me like I was crazy.
The red one opened his mouth once more but the one in black waved his tail towards him.
“Reed that’s enough,” he responded taking a step towards me. My pack growling in the process causing the enemies to do the same. “What are you guys doing here?” He said.
“We…” I started before being cut off by Adolph who pushed me aside.
“Calla, be quiet you don’t have the authority to talk. Know your place.”
I went silent and lowered my head letting him speak instead.
“We discovered this piece of land, and I decided that we are going to take it from you.” He simply said.
I turned my head towards Adolph and said “Adolph we can’t…..”
He turned around and growled at me “Calla shut up!” “Do I have to teach you a lesson later?”
I immediately went silent. That “lesson” is not something I want to happen.
The black wolf opened his mouth to speak,
“Ok, here’s a few things. First, you shouldn’t speak to a female like that, it’s against our laws. Second, you can’t be here because this is royal property and you know that. So, I’m going to make you a deal. I will let you go without bloodshed if you leave with a few conditions. First, you must leave this land and not come back. Second, you must let me speak alone with Calla for a few minutes. Don’t worry, nothing will harm her, I promise on behalf of the royal court.”
My mind was spinning, I was so confused. What did they mean by not speaking to a female like that and it is against our laws? Since I’ve been a werewolf all I’ve heard is that females deserve to be spoken to like that. Also, what in the world was this so-called royal court? What could he possibly want to talk to me about? Is he going to give me a lecture about speaking out of terms like all I hear from Adolph? If so, I did not want to speak to this man at all. I’m sick of these lectures I get that makes me feel like crap.
Adolph took a step forward, earning a growl from the other wolf pack.
“Hmmm, maybe we want to have a little bloodshed. It seems quite entertaining.” He flashed his teeth towards the enemies, licking his dark lips.
In a calm spoken voice, the black alpha simply replied “Do you honestly think that is a good idea, Adolph?” “Don’t you remember what happened last time you tried this?” “Besides, there are only six of you and eight of us. Is that really going to work out in your favor?”
I turned my attention to Adolph, holding my breath. Whatever he said next could determine whether we fight, and most likely lose, or if we go peacefully. Well if they go peacefully, I’m not quite sure what will happen to me given that I’m part of this peace treaty.
I held my breath. This was the moment that would decide our fate. Time seemed to slow down as I got into my fighting stance along with the other members of both packs. Somewhere I heard the enemy say,
“Only fight those that attack us, don’t fight the innocent ones.”
I turned my head toward them once more, cocking my head sideways, my face giving off how puzzled I was. They just simply gave me back the same puzzled face, all except the alpha.
Adolph’s voice broke out silencing our thoughts. “We will leave in peace, you shall have only five minutes with the female.”
The alpha simply replied, “You are in no place to negotiate, but I will follow your wish.”
My heart slammed into my chest beating ever so fast. What could they want with me? I slowly began to walk towards them as they turned around, away from my pack. The alpha went away from the others and signaled me to walk to him. As I approached the alpha, I truly got to see what he looked like for the first time. He had dark midnight black-looking fur, with no other colors evident anywhere on him. It was a beautiful shade that made me think of the midnight sky. His eyes were a bright golden hue that I’ve only ever seen in pictures. His long coat ruffled in the wind as he walked.
When I reached him, I bowed down to him.
“Yes, sir? I asked.”
He looked at me with a small smile etched across his face
“Please, call me Tiberius.”
“Hmm, yes, Tiberius then?”
This caused him to give out a small chuckle.
“Tell me, what are you doing with this crowd of wolves? You don’t belong with them.”
“Well, Adolph was here for me when I needed someone the most. You see, my mom and sister are both normal and I had no idea what was wrong with me. If you don’t mind me asking, what do you mean I don’t belong with this pack?”
“Tell me, can you hear what they are thinking?”
“Uh…… no? Why would I be able to hear their thinking? That’s kind of ridiculous, isn’t it?”
I thought this alpha lost his mind. Nobody can hear anyone talking in their head. That’s like a children’s story.
“But you heard us earlier, didn’t you?” He gave me a questioning look.
“Yes, because you guys were pretty much yelling in my ear,” I responded.
“The easiest way to tell if you belong in a pack together is if you can hear each other’s thoughts. A long time ago, werewolves were having a hard time finding a pack that fit them. To solve this issue, our elders blessed us with the ability to hear each other’s thoughts. Only those that belong in a pack will be able to hear them. That’s why when you were talking to us earlier, your group members thought you were crazy. They couldn’t hear us, but you could. You don’t belong in their group, you belong in ours. I know this is crazy and I’m not going to go force you to join us. I want you to come when you want or need to. Just know that if you ever need me just call my name.”
My head was spinning. Was all of this true? Could any of this be true? I guess it made sense for the fact that I could hear them, but Rafiq couldn’t and he thought I was crazy.
“How do I know what you are saying is true?” I asked puzzled.
Tiberius answered, “you don’t, but just know that if you have any questions, just ask.”
“I’m supposed to just call your name? How are you supposed to hear me?”
“Trust me, I will, you don’t even have to say it out loud. I’ll be listening.”
“That’s kinda creepy don’t you think?” I gave him a smile which caused him to laugh.
“Everything about us is a little creepy. Now go back to your pack before they begin to worry.”
I turned around to head back to my pack. Reading the expressions on their face they looked worried, especially Adolph to my surprise. Why would he be worried? He could see me the entire time, so he knew I was safe. He was the last one who I would expect to be worried about me. Rafiq was the one who I thought cared the most.
“Oh and Calla?” I heard Tiberius call from behind me. I turned my head to look at him. “White means alpha.”
What did he mean by that? White means alpha? White what? I gave him a puzzling look but he just turned around and went back into the woods where he came from with his pack.
