Chapter 1722
Hundred thousand dollars felt like a lifeline.
But if Dr. Wilfred found out about this, there was no way she would be able to keep her job at the hospital.
"Dr. Norman, don't tell me you want five hundred thousand instead?" Sera pushed, trying every angle to get closer to him.
It was clear she had hit a dead end with Wilfred's assistant and saw Karina as her last option. If Karina got fired because of this, that would be her problem, not Sera's.
Karina's head throbbed. "Look, I need to deal with something urgent right now. We'll talk about this tomorrow, okay?"
"But you're going to the director's office tomorrow, aren't you?" Sera pressed. "Dr. Norman, we really should settle this now."
Sera's relentless chatter was interrupted by Karina's phone ringing again.
"Karina... the person who deserves to die the most is you! If it weren't for you, our family wouldn't have ended up like this!"
The voice on the other end was furious, and all too familiar. Karina felt her scalp prickle, her chest tighten.
"Calm down. I'm on my way. I'll bring what you want, okay?" she said, forcing her voice to remain steady. Taking a deep breath, she hung up. Her head was spinning, and she felt like the world was closing in on her. Desperate, Karina turned to Sera like she was clutching a lifeline.
"You said a hundred thousand, right? Send it to me now, and I'll take care of it for you tomorrow."
Sera lit up with excitement. "I'll transfer it to your account right now."
When Sera pulled out her phone, Karina couldn't help but notice. It was the latest model, complete with a diamond-studded case. Clearly, this girl wasn't short on cash. Karina hesitated but finally gave her bank account number. Moments later, hundred thousand dollars appeared in her account.
"I want clear, high-quality photos," Sera demanded. "And while you're at it, get the director to add me to his contacts."
Karina frowned, keeping her voice steady. "You do realize he's not going to add some random stranger, right? And how exactly am I supposed to pull that off?"
"Figure it out. Here, save my number and add yours to my contacts," Sera snapped, shoving her phone toward Karina. Her tone turned sharp, her gaze icy. "I'm trusting you with this. If you don't follow through, I'make you regret it."
Karina froze, a thin layer of dread settling over her. She had already taken the money. What choice did she have now?
Reluctantly, she grabbed the phone, quickly saved her contact and made a brief call to her own number to link them. Once done, she handed the phone back and bolted out of the office.
She tried to hail a ride, but her app showed she was 49th in line. Frustrated, she moved to a different spot, determined to get there as quickly as possible.
Just as she was about to give up, a white luxury car pulled up beside her.
Karina froze, confused until she saw Wilfred in the driver's seat.
"Get in. I'll drop you off," Wilfred said curtly.
After a moment's hesitation, Karina climbed in "Thank you, Dr. Wilfred. I couldn't get a car. My app said I was 49th in line. But don't worry, I'll pay you the market rate for the ride."
A faint smirk tugged at the corner of Wilfred's mouth. "Do you really think I'm giving you a ride because I need the money?"
"Of course not," Karina replied
quickly. She knew it wasn't about the
money. Wilfred wasn't the kind of
person who would care about a car fare. Still, accepting a favor without

reason didn't sit right with her.
"Where to?" Wilfred asked in a low, steady voice.
