Caught In His Embrace: A Second Chance Romance

Chapter 113

Chapter 113

Seeing that Keyla was on the verge of tears, Yvette couldn’t help but feel surprised. “What’s going on? Take your time and explain.”

“Yvette, it’s like this… remember when I accidentally stepped on your foot that day?” Keyla hesitated for a moment before she started explaining the business trouble with the Gibson family.

“Mr. Flynn is doing this to get back at you. Can you talk to him for me? Ask him to let my family off the hook, please?” she added.

Yvette was stunned. Josiah was actually making things difficult for the Gibson family.

Keyla thought it was because of her, but Yvette had a feeling that wasn’t quite right.

Yvette kept her face expressionless. “You’re overthinking this, Josiah is never one to mix business with personal matters.

“This is just part of the business arrangement, and it has nothing to do with you. If you’re looking for answers, you should look at your father and brothers.”

“Really?” Keyla frowned, still not quite convinced.

“Really.” Yvette nodded. “I know him well.”

“Is that so?” Keyla seemed a little lost, unsure what to think. “Is it really not my

fault

“Yes, really,” Yvette reassured her. “Don’t take the blame for something that’s not your fault. How to handle this situation is not something you need to worry about.”

“Yeah, you’re right,” Keyla murmured, clearly persuaded. “I understand now.”

After seeing Keyla off, Yvette’s expression darkened. She thought for a moment, then picked up her phone and called Josiah

“Hey, Yvette?” Josiah sounded a little distracted. “What’s up? I’ve got to wrap this up soon, so make it quick.”

“Alright.” Yvette didn’t beat around the bush. “What’s going on with the Gibson family? What did you mean by that?”

Josiah was surprised. “How did you find out about this?”

“Keyla came to me for help. Yvette sighed, a bit helpless. “She’s just a kid. Why are you making trouble for her, Josiah? Can’t you just let it go?”

Josiah paused for a moment before firmly declining. “Sorry, Yvette, I can’t do that”

“Why not?” Yvette was taken aback, her anger rising. “Is this about Siennal

Josiah didn’t answer.

“Humph.” Yvette sneered. “So that’s it? Just because Keyla said some harsh words about her? You’re going to make her pay for

Yes To her surprise, Josiah interrupted her and admitted it.

Yvelle was stunned for a moment. “You”

“Yvette,” Josiah sighed deeply, his voice heavy. “The things Keyla said about Sienna were all because of me. I’ve been standing up for Sienna, shouldn’t I?”

“You… you… Yvette was too docked to form a coherent response

“I’m busy right now. I have to go.” And with that, he hung up.

Yvette stared at her phone, a sharp pain throbbing in her head. She chuckled bitterly. “Humph. So now you’re regretting it?”

No one would have thought that Josiah would ever feel regret. Because he hadn’t treated Sienna well enough, he now regretted it.

“But what good is regret? she wondered. Yvette didn’t understand Regret was called regret because it came from the past. It was useless, so it was what made it regretful.

Downstairs, Cedric opened the car door and helped Sienna out.

“Thanks.” She smiled..

“You’re welcome,” said Cedric.

Because of Sienna, Cedric hadn’t been able to visit Howard last me. They had made plans to come together today.

When they arrived at the hospital room, Howard had just woken up from his nap, and Yvette was helping him drink some water. Since Howard still had difficulty swallowing, some of the water spilled from the corner of his mouth, wetting his clothes.

Howard furrowed his brows, his face pale.

It’s okay. Yvelles

immediately stood up, grabbing a towel to wipe him off. “Do you still want to drink some more?”

Howard shook his head, unwilling to drink anymore.

“Just wait a minute.” Yvette turned and went to the wardrobe to grab a clean shirt. She returned, adjusted the bed to raise the head, and then began unbuttoning Howard’s shirt.

She explained as she worked, “Wearing wet clothes isn’t comfortable. Let’s get you into something clean

She didn’t call for a caregiver. Instead, she carefully removed his damp clothes and replaced them with a fresh shirt. After slipping one sleeve on, she moved behind Howard, sliding her hands under his armpits and fastening the shirt around his back. “One, two, three…”

With a deep breath, she lifted him into a sitting position, using the opportunity to smooth the shirt down his back, then helped him lie back down and slipped the second sleeve on.

“There we go,” Yvette said after finishing. Her face was flushed from the effort.

As she fastened the buttons, she continued, “I know you don’t like the caregivers seeing you like this, but it’s fine in front of me, right? See? I can do it all by myself.”

Howard lowered his gaze and watched her silently.

Outside the door, Sienna had witnessed the entire scene. Her woman’s intuition told her that Yvette’s feelings for Howard were real. She truly liked him,

Then, Sienna couldn’t understand why Yvette harmed her back then.

The child was Howard’s. If he didn’t wake up, that child would be the only thing Howard left behind for Yvette.

Would Yvette really sacrifice their child

just to hurt me? Sienna wondered. That doesn’t seem to make sense, does it?

“They seem to be okay now.” Cedric raised his hand and knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Yvette said.

“Sienna, let’s go in, Cedrie said.

“Okay.” Sienna replied.

They entered the room, where Yvette was sitting by the bed, trimning Howard’s nails. She looked up at them. “Came to see Howard? You’re lucky, he just woke up. Go ahead and sit.”

She pointed to the chairs across from her.

Thanks. Cedric nodded and set down the things he brought.

Sienna carefully studied Howard. To be fair, he looked much better than the last time she saw him. His hair was neatly done, and his stubble had been shaved clean

She glanced at his hands. His nails were neatly trimmed. Yvette finished with his nails, then took out some hand cream and started rubbing it into his hands. Their fingers intertwined as she worked,

She smiled at Howard. “Your hands shouldn’t be so dry now. Does that feel better?”

Howard blinked as if to say he agreed.

Sienna furrowed her brow. The feeling she had earlier only grew stronger. To take such meticulous care of someone. without love, was impossible.

Moreover, the Flynn family had hired a caregiver, yet Yvette was doing everything herself.

Howard’s throat made a muffled sound as he looked at Sienna.

“Don’t rush.” Yvette immediately said, trying to reassure him. “Sienna’s here to see you. She’ll be back to visit often. You know you’ve got so much to say once you’re better, don’t you, Sienna:

“Yeah.” Sienna agreed with a rare smile, nodding. “Howard, I’ll come by whenever I can. Just don’t get tired of me, alright?”

“Howard Cedric came over after putting his things away. “It’s me too. I’ve come to see you. You probably don’t remember me, but I’m Cedric, Yosef’s cousin.”

Howard looked at him blankly.

“Hey,” Yvette waved her hand in a playful manner. “Just tell him you’re Sienna’s boyfriend, and he’ll remember you.”
