Chapter 1534
When Rachel walked into the fitting room, the dress that Roger chose for her was already there, waiting to be fitted.
The lining of the strapless fishtail skirt was alluring.
It was embellished with white pearls, giving the dress the shimmer it needed to accentuate its beauty.
The shade of red that gave the dress its vibrancy was neither too bright nor too dark.
It suited Rachel’s taste in dresses just perfectly.
“Out of all the dresses featured in the Milan show this year, this one’s the most popular.” Eva inched toward the dress that was currently donning a mannequin and gently straightened the hemline.
“This dress wasn’t meant to be lent out and was supposed to be displayed at the exhibition hall.
Mr.
Jimenez has pulled a lot of strings just to buy it.
At first, they agreed to lend it out; they didn’t want to sell it.”
Eva looked up at Rachel and continued, “But Mr.
Jimenez insisted he wanted to buy it.
He even told the people in charge that he’d buy it at a price ten times higher than what the dress was actually worth.”
Rachel had to admit that the dress was indeed very beautiful and amazing.
A glance wouldn’t be sufficient in taking in its glory.
It was a head-turner.
The white pearls were like luster dots against the red fabric.
The embellishment was very simple, but it kept the dress’s dignity.
Its intricacy must have demanded the clothing designer to complete each step painstakingly.
“When I heard his offer, I asked him why.
I was wondering what kind of woman would wear this dress for him to spend so much.” Eva had struggled her way to become who she was today.
She started at the bottom of the ladder, but now she was one of the most sought-after stylists.
She had met a lot of personalities and naturally knew a lot of rich people.
But never had she thought that the woman who was fortunate to wear such a dress was Rachel.
“Miss Bennet, do you know what Mr.
Jimenez told me at that time?”
“What?” Rachel shifted her gaze from the dress to Eva.
“He told me that the woman who was going to wear this dress was his fiancee, adding that she deserved only the best in the world.
He also recounted that she had suffered a lot, so he didn’t want her to have anything short of best.” Eva recalled the look on Roger’s face when he revealed that to her.
She couldn’t help but add, “He really cares about you.”
It wasn’t news to Rachel anymore.
Everyone she knew seemed to have kept reminding her that.
She narrowed her eyes and only gave Eva a faint smile.
“I’m just a little surprised, though,” Eva added.
“Why ?”
“I thought you’d be with Mr.
Sullivan.”
Confusion was drawn on Rachel’s face.
“Why do you think so? He didn’t treat me well.
I thought you knew that.”
“Well, I thought so in the beginning.”
Eva remembered the disgust and indifference on Rachel’s face when she was brought here four years ago.
Back then, Rachel refused to wear the dress or attend the banquet.
But knowing where she stood, Eva swallowed back her questions.
Later, she heard terrible news that Rachel met her tragic end at sea.
Yet a few days ago, Rachel came to her and asked her to copy the woman’s makeup in the photo.
Eva knew only the things outsiders knew about Rachel.
