Buried Love Series Ashes of Regret (Sophia and Ryan)

Chapter Regret 62

BOOK6 Chapter9

Michael was stunned, staring deeply at Rachel for a moment before deciding to keep the truth to himself. "Nothing."

As he spoke, he glanced at the old wound on Rachel's arm and casually asked, "Does your wound still hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt anymore," Rachel replied, a flash of panic in her eyes. "That was a long time ago. Let's not bring it up. Phoebe Barnes is completely out of our lives now."

Michael, with calculated intent, said, "How can we just ignore it? She intentionally hurt you, then ran off with another man, stealing money and leaving me in the lurch. I'll make sure she's found and made to apologize to you." Rachel frowned, unsure of what to say, but clearly feeling a bit

uneasy.

After they returned home, both were lost in their thoughts. Meanwhile, the news about the murder case at Zenith Factory, where my body had been unearthed from a sandpit, had made headlines, flooding the internet. Rachel was panicking, and Michael couldn't shake his anxiety either. He kept the news from Rachel and found an excuse to rush to the morgue.

He was frantic and scared.

He hadn't expected that I had been dead for four years!

He had harbored hatred towards me for four years, only to discover that I had already been dead the entire time!

Four years ago, Rachel had intentionally injured herself, accusing me

of fleeing to avoid punishment, leading to the ruin of my family.

Now, four years later, my corpse had been discovered at the Zenith Factory, unnoticed all this time.

When Michael saw my shattered body, he couldn't stop the crocodile tears from streaming down his face.

"Dr. Hayes, you're here?" The medical examiner, trembling, handed him the autopsy report. "The police tried to contact Phoebe Barnes'

family, but it turns out her parents have both died in the past few

days."

Michael was filled with regret, stammering as he tried to speak.

"I... I know. They... they're dead."

The medical examiner then handed Michael an evidence bag. "Dr. Hayes, there's another significant finding. This was found clutched tightly in the deceased's hand, embedded in her flesh." It was a pearl earring.

One that Rachel had worn!

I had clung to it with all my strength before dying, trying to leave behind evidence to accuse her!

But now, four years later, it was Michael who saw it first.

Michael recognized the pearl earring immediately, fear gripping him as he clenched it just as tightly as I had in my final moments.

Because he knew this pearl earring belonged to Rachel! It was a graduation gift he had given her four years ago after she aced her

exams.

Just then, Rachel also arrived.

"Honey?"

She called out from outside, straining to catch a glimpse of my body, desperate to know if anything incriminating had been found on me!

Panicked, Michael quickly covered my body with a cloth and hid the earring. He also warned the medical examiner not to tell Rachel anything about the autopsy.
