Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again

Chapter 0013

Chapter 0013

Caroline's POV:

I had to restrain myself from bursting into the police station. Approaching the front desk with a fervor, I demanded to see my father, Thomas West. The woman jumped in surprise at my sudden appearance and gave a quick "follow me", before taking me to the back to talk with a couple of officers currently on my father's case.

"Take a seat," instructed an officer, stiffly pointing to a chair in the corner of the room. They kindly waited until I was comfortable before the other officer began.

"We have evidence that someone had tampered with your father's laptop," he announced, his expression nothing but stoic. "That laptop is greatly connected to your father's case, one that we've been investigating him for for quite a while now." Tears pricked my vision as the revelation. "So, you're saying my father is innocent?"

The two officers shared a careful glance before one replied sternly. "Might' is the key word here, Caroline. There's a lot we can't tell you right now, but we can say that we have no suspects at the moment. For all we know, it could be your father's attempt at a diversion." I leapt from my chair, shouting, "He would never!" My father was an honorable man, and the very insinuation that he would do something wrong had my core sparking with defensive anger.

A look of warning danced over one of the men's gazes. "Please, calm down," he barked. We understand your grievance, but you need to tone down your behavior." I quickly covered my mouth with a swift apology and forced my emotions to settle.

"You can bail out your father for a very low surn," the kinder officer continued. "He can be let out for several months, but he'll need to comply with police and the follow-up investigation, along with a few other stipulations. Does that sound fair to you?"

Tears flowed down my face before I could even stop them. Finally, my father was going to get the freedom he deserved! "Yes!" I cried. "More than fair. Thank you!"

The offers kindly helped me on the path to getting my father released. The paperwork was lengthy and tedious, but soon my father was free. As he stepped out of his cell, I could see that his features were sunken and tired. I couldn't stop myself from leaping forward and embracing him tightly. "See?" I sobbed into his shirt, my voice hiccuping with tears. "I told you I would get you out."

He wrapped his arms around me with an affectionate smile. "I knew you could do it," he whispered softly to me. "That's my little girl."

On the emotional ride home, I attempted to comfort him the entire time. To my surprise,

he was more intent on comforting me instead. That was just his nature: always making me his top priority. Even in my darkest hours, he seemed to have a joke or two up his sleeve to make me smile.

As soon as my father was eased into bed, I diligently searched for and contacted a private investigator to crack open his case. I gave him the general information he needed in hopes he would be able to bring the man framing my father to justice..

With a newfound confidence, I decided to call William the next day. It was finally time to get a divorce. My lingering love for William had once caused me hesitation, but now I realized I wanted him out of my life, once and for all.

On just the first ring, William picked up. "Caroline? What do you want?" His tone was stiff and trickling with annoyance, as though just talking to me was a hassle in and of itself.

"I want to file for divorce as soon as possible," announced, not beating around the bush." How quickly do you think you could sign the divorce papers?"

A beát of silence passed as William processed his surprise. "Why so urgent?" he asked, his tone turning accusatory. "Are you that desperate to be with Martin?"

I clenched my teeth at the audacity of my husband to accuse me of cheating. "I already told you: that's not what we are. If we get a divorce, neither of us have a right to interfere with each other's private lives. You can get married to Sophia and I can move on with my life, alright?"

I was met with no response, causing impatience to well up inside me. "That's what you wanted, right?" I asked, trying not to let my voice waver.

His scoff was loud and unapologetic. "I'm going on a business trip, Caroline," he said in a voice far harsher than it had any right to be. "Don't bother me with a divorce right now."

The call ended abruptly, leaving me in a state of devastation and confusion. Why didn't he want a divorce? Was he actively working against me?

William was a man possessive over his "things, so he probably didn't want to give up the control he had over my life. He'd demanded to know every little detail about Martin, after all, and forced me to go to a party that I didn't belong in.

I was desperate to get him out of my life. All I wanted was my freedom back. I couldn't even be with friends without William constantly over my shoulder and controlling my

actions.

I'd told myself I would never resort to this, but William left me no choice. I needed this divorce or else I would never be free again. Without a second thought, I selected the first tabloid journalist I could find and sent a quick email. "This is Caroline Anderson, wife of William Anderson. I'm contacting you to let you

The very second that token to freedom was sent out, I began filing for divorce. Confidence swelled inside me, because even with William still in my life, I knew I still had some control.

process, I was practically bouncing with excitement as I called Martin. "Caroline!" he began, a cheerful pep to his voice. "What's up? Is everything alright?"The warmth of his voice renewed my smile. "Martin, if I started chemotherapy, how long do you think I'd live?"
