Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)

Chapter 43

Chapter 43

She struggled for a moment before giving a brief reply. [What’s up?]

At first, it was a polite answer, but she didn’t expect David to call her immediately and ask, “Did I disturb you?”

“I’m sorry it took me so long to reply to you,” Rachel said.

די

“Are you free tomorrow?” David asked, his deep and alluring voice spreading to Rachel’s ears through his phone.

Rachel flipped through the information in boredom before answering without hesitation, “No.”

She would definitely have to get busy for some time after taking over the company’s matters.

“Is that the reason you turned me down?” asked David, who wasn’t surprised that Rachel had given that answer.

“It’ll take me some time to adapt to the new job,” Rachel said. She explained, “Why are you suddenly looking for me? Is something wrong?”

David’s tone became much mellower than before all of a sudden. “I want to treat the girl I like to a meal, but unfortunately, she doesn’t seem interested.”

“David Jones, are you going to be that honest with your feelings now?” Rachel asked after laughing uncontrollably.

“Rae–Rae,” David called out to her. His deep voice slowly filled her ears. “I don’t need to hide my love for you.”

The way he called her Rae–Rae was absolutely alluring. His voice was deep and had just the right amount of richness. It was like a lover’s confession, which makes one’s heart flutter.

In a state of panic, Rachel’s heart started beating wildly, and she cleared her throat before saying, “I’ll hang up now if there’s nothing else.”

After saying that, she hung up and tossed aside her phone.

Soon, she received a notification on her phone. It was a text from David, which included the location of a restaurant. He added a voice message, “I’ll wait for you.”

He would always seemingly give her some options to choose from, but he had already long decided for her, causing her to be unable to avoid it.

The following morning, Rachel got into a cab and arrived at the Johnson Corporation office building.

Everyone held their breaths and stared at the backseat of the car.

Rachel bent forward as the car doors opened and got out of it.

She wore a black suit paired with a black pair of trousers, exuding a sharp and aloof aura.

Her black tresses were tied up casually into a messy bun. The small tuft of hair fluttering down at the side added a gentleness and charm to her cold and aloof face.

Everyone was stunned by the fresh face.

Before they came to their senses, Rachel was already accompanied by her assistant to the internal department of the corporation.

Someone rushed forward when she entered the elevator to help her press the button. “Ms. Grey, I’m Jacky, Mr. Jensen’s assistant.”

Rachel glanced at him, and his face was instantly covered with a smile ast he continued, “Here’s the thing, Mr. Jensen hasn’t been well lately. He’s still recuperating at home, but he specially instructed me to take good care of you, Ms. Grey. Please feel free to tell me what you want. I’ll do anything to get it.”

“Tell Mr. Jensen this for me. Since he’s not feeling well, he’d better recuperate at home. He doesn’t have to worry about the matters at the corporation. The group will provide him with the best retirement. protection in consideration of the commendable work he has done for the group over the years.” Rachel stared coldly at the deferential Jacky and said with a mirthless smile, “This mission is rather simple. You don’t have to go all out. I believe you’ll complete it successfully.”

After saying that, she strode into the elevator.

Best retirement protection?

Jacky was stunned right on the spot. He had significantly asserted dominance in front of Rachel by the orders of Mr. Jensen. How did he end up in trouble instead?
