Bedmates Soulmates

Chapter CHAPTER 55

The Hummer inched forward.

A pair of eyes followed its slow progress until it disappeared from view.

'Hey! Earth to Georgina!' Alissa waved a hand in front of her friend's face. "What are you staring at?

Georgina fixed her gaze in the direction of the Hummer, which was now the size of a matchbox. 'Did you see the car just now?'

""Which one?"

"The one everybody else was gawking at."

"Oh, that one. Sure. Such a cool car. Looks like a Humvee. That license plate, though, is worth more than the car. You don't get that kind of plate from the local traffic department."

Georgina studied her friend's face. 'How do you know that?

'My brother's in the army,' Alissa said with a smile. 'He's crazy about military vehicles. Wouldn't shut up about it. I might have seen a car like that in one of the magazines he leaves lying around the house." "So the car's expensive!

'Very. And you can't just waltz into any random dealership and buy it. It's special orders only."

'Hmm." Georgina narrowed her eyes. 'How did she hook such a big shot? Shameless bitch." "Who are you talking about?

Georgina spat on the ground. "My mother's daughter with her ex-husband. I heard the man got into a car accident two years ago and was banged up pretty bad. Still in a vegetative state, I think. The girl had the nerve to approach Mom for money."

"I see." Alissa nodded in commiseration. 'Poor relatives are such a nuisance. They grovel and beg for money when they're too lazy to get off their asses and work for a living. Be careful. If you lend money to them once, they'll keep coming back for more and there'll be no end to it. It's better not to open that door."

Georgina sneered. 'I know. I'd rather toss my coins into a beggar's bowl than give it to her!"

As she strolled to the shopping mall, Georgina couldn't help wondering if Kira had really landed herself a fat cat.

It was her getting into that fancy, expensive-looking car

Georgina was sure of it.

On the drive home, Kira and Kai got to chatting and discovered a kindred spirit in each other.

They shared a passion for country pop and preferred Nineties hits to the current chart music.

I thought younger kids nowadays are more into hip pop or rap,' Kai said.

"Oh, I'm an old soul trapped in a young body, Kira joked. I've always had a thing for the oldies but goodies. Like Richard Marx's number-one single from 1989, "Right Here-" "Waiting!" Kal cut in. "I love that song!"

The car stopped at a traffic sign.

With his right hand on the steering wheel, Kai made his left hand into a fist and mimed a microphone. Oceans apart, day after day... Carp Karaoke

'And I slowly go insane, Kira joined in.

She could open her mouth when she was no longer in front of a crowd.

ai was not

And Kai was not a stranger.

"I hear your voice on the line... Kai kept singing as he edged the car forward.

The two of them turned the drive into a carpool karaoke session.

When the Hummer got off the expressway, they were duetting a chorus of 'It Must Have Been Love."

Austyn-Kira's husband, Kai's boss, the M Group's head honcho-sat by himself in the backseat, forgotten.

The president gritted his teeth as the two kept up with their blasted singalong.

He closed his eyes, but it didn't stop the noise from reaching his ears.

What was so funny that they had to keep laughing?

'It must have been love, but it's over now. It was all that I wanted, now- 'Can it!' Austyn finally had enough. 'Stop that infernal caterwauling!"
