Chapter Unkown 01
KASSIDY
__________
Today’s the big day. I turn eighteen today. So many things are supposed to be happening and I just couldn’t believe it. I’m a legal adult. I’d be in college soon. And most importantly, I can find my mate.
I looked over to my nightstand and peered up at the digital alarm clock.
Twelve o’two it read.
My twin brother, Kash, his figure appeared at my door frame. He leaned in with a smile on his face and a big cupcake in his hand. “Happy birthday to us.” He sang with a smile walking over to the other side of my bed getting under the blankets with me.
“Yeah.” I returned his smile and blew out the candle with him.
“To another year of life.” He quietly cheered.
“Yeah—” I got some frosting from the cupcake “—to another year of life.”

After having food bring scarfed down my throat, the birthday song being sung, and lectures from my parents, I was ready to get out of the house. My three best friends and I had finally got away from the adults and shuffled and ran out of the house.
I ran to the passenger side and reached for the handle.
“Shotgun!” I called out. A round of groans made me smirk to myself and climb in the car and relax into my seat. With Kassandra at the wheel and Anais and Jordan in the back, we pulled out of the driveway and onto the road into the city.
“Can you believe it guys? Our little, Kassi is finally the big eighteen now!” Kassandra squealed.
Her bright green eyes glimmered in the setting sunlight as she drove. The light highlighted her honey blonde locks and gave her a golden look as she steered the wheel.
“I know, right? It was like yesterday when she first started to waddle!” Anais gushed. I rolled my eyes and leaned my head on the window.
That girl.
Her bouncy, almost black, loosely coiled hair was swaying side to side as she bounced around. Her cinnamon-brown eyes flowed with happiness as she looked at me with eyes full of love. The sun did her justice too by making her already golden-brown skin, glow in the sunlight. The light-brown skinned witch didn’t know how much she meant to me.
I cared for them all, I wouldn’t be the person I am without them.
The cool glass pressed against my temple as I watched the flying buildings and people. Just blurring with the world. Maybe I should paint that sometime.
“Guys leave her alone. She’s had enough time to be coddled and babied today. Let her do some big girl stuff.” Jordan piped in. It was rare when she jumped into conversations, but when she did, she made her point.
Her pale skin looked dewy in the soft lighting. Her dark brown eyes crinkled at the sides with smile lines as she looked up from the book she was reading. Her shoulder-length, platinum blonde hair bobbed with her head as she peered up at us to be in the conversation.
I smiled back at her shy figure and sat back into my passenger’s seat and closed my eyes.
After a while, Kassandra had brought up getting snacks. Everyone put in their suggestions and we decided to go a dollar store before driving up to the Creek at the edge of town.
Once we had everything, we got back in the car and made our way to the Creek. It was ironic in a funny kind of way.
The city’s name is Raven’s Creek.
__________
We had driven back to my place to retrieve swimsuits and towels then we were back on the road again. As we neared the edge of the city, a sick feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. Something doesn’t feel right.
As if on cue, a shadowy figure appeared right out of thin air in front of the car.
Our screams filled the air as Kassandra swerved the car to a stop. The force of the breaks slammed or bodies forward and then back into our seats.
“Is everyone okay?” Kassandra asked. Murmurs of ‘yeah’ filled my ears and I gave a nod when her eyes looked to me. She opened her door and I opened mine and soon everyone was out of the car and looking around. “Alright, let’s just get back in the car and get home, yeah?” We all nodded and proceed to get back into the car.
She started the engine again and we turned around. She picked up speed and stepped on the pedal. We were getting closer to the city again until that same shadow appeared in front of the car again.
“Where the hell did he come from?” Anais breathed out heavily. Kassandra lost control of the wheel again, swerving one more time before we toppled over the road railings and fell down a small slope. The poor Jeep tossed and turned. And flipped and flipped until it landed on the hood.
Groans and moans of pain filled the small space as pieces of broken glass and blood littered over my side of the car.
Oh shit.
“Hey! H-hey get up!” A voice yelled. My eyes started to blur and the voices started to statin my ears. I felt hands grab me and hear a door being kicked open.
“Give her some room!” Another voice demanded.
“Oh my God, please be okay.” Hands held my head to a lap and shook against my skin.
“Why is she the only one hurt?” A voice asked. More murmurs and muttering rang in my ears.
I just want some quiet, guys.
The sound of an explosion sounded and a fire broke out.
There was heavy pressure on my chest. I looked down to find a broken glass shard lodged in my sternum. My breath was labored and blood trickled from the corner of my mouth. My vision was fading in and out as the voices became more frantic.
“Try taking it out!” A voice yelled.
“I’m trying but it just keeps going in deeper.” My chest constricted even more and more blood spurted from my mouth.
“No. No. No.” A voice cried.
Right before I could fall even deeper into my inevitable unconsciousness, I glanced to the side and seen the shadow there again.
Watching in the distance before it turned its back on me.
Next thing I knew, I'm dead.
