Chapter Storm 4
WREN
__________
Six months after Kassidy's death. . .
After helping Anais out of our cells, we walked to the end of the hall. A staircase that I think used to be there was now here. The look on her face and the feel of her aura told me it wasn't good either.
"They took precautionary measures for us." Anais mumbled shakily. I gulped as I looked at the door longer.
Broken hinges. Worn wooden planks. Almost broken knob.
I looked over to her. "Do you know what it is in on other side if that door?" I ask.
She gulped loudly and shook her head with a humorless chuckle. “It's a trap."
She bluntly states. She looks to me. "But it's our only way out." She stepped forward and placed both palms on the door.
"What's wrong?" I ask with concern. She shakes her head a d puts her palms down.
"It's a special kind of trap. A maze of sorts." She puts it frankly. I nodded my head in understanding as she closed her eyes and whispered in words that I couldn't understand. The palms of her hands began to glow as she kept whispering.
The door creaked open a bit, darkness leaked out from the other side.
We looked to each other, nodded, and I swung the door open further seeing a dark but fire lit tunnel.
Anais grabbed my hand. "Let's do this."
There were cobblestones in the floor as we walked along the dampened cement rock floors.
The tunnel-like hall was lit by fire torches hitched up on the walls.
A familiar wave of nostalgia washed over me as I watched the flickering of the flames on their mounts on the wall.
Fire will never be the same again.
My mind was running wild with different scenarios of what this will turn out like in the end.
I wondered if everything would go back to normal after they were killed.
If Stylo and his two followers were gone for good.
Anais's smaller hand shook slightly in my larger one as we furthered into the fire lit tunnel.
Then she stopped all together.
I stopped walking and bumped her shoulder a bit as I came to a stop.
Her emotions were everywhere, her eyes shifting over every inch of the tunnel.
"What's wrong?" I start looking around for danger, but I didn't feel any threats nearby.
"Do you feel something?" It would be weird if she did feel something I couldn't, but she was a witch after all.
"Wren?" She turned her head to me.
"Did you not feel it?" Her eyes looked down to her feet as we walked.
My brows furrowed in confusion.
"Feel what?" She chuckled humorlessly and shook her head.
"Their deaths," I stopped in my tracks.
My eyes went wide as the sudden emptiness poured into my chest. The force of six powerful bonds were broken all together.
"This can't be happening. How the hell are they all dead?" I grabbed her hand tightly in my grasp. Her eyes closed over with tears as she looked up into my own.
"I may have been weakened but that didn't mean I couldn't feel the death of both of my parents, Kassidy and Kash's mom, and Zachariah and Carolina meet their ends." She choked on her own tears as one lone silent tear spilled from my eye.
"When?" I croaked out. My knees felt as if they'd been turned into jelly, waiting to wiggle and give out in any moment.
"When the labyrinth door opened." She had a look of solemnness in her eyes as they casted down to the floor.
My legs had finally decided to give out, my legs folding in on their knees as the waterworks began falling from my eyes as the gut wrenching feeling of the anguish and pain they had went through surges through my body.
But that's felt off.
This wasn't like the time when I felt my mom die.
No, this felt forced.
Either way it felt all too real.
Apparently, those chains had magic cast on them that nullified everything that had to do with the outside world.
But that's doesn't make sense.
How can anything stop something like me and Kassidy like the stuff Stylo was doing?
Why is he the one that can hold us down and disable us when nothing else can?
What makes him so special?
All I know is that when Anais and I leave this place, alive, we'll raise some hell.
As long as I get back to you.
I'll always come back for you. . .
