Chapter 449 Toby Gets Punished
He started caring more and more about me especially after Winner and Shirley were born. But what surprised me most was that he sometimes still cared about you. Perhaps that's why he left the Wen Group to you in the end. He cared about you after all."
Saying that, Joy put on a bitter smile for her failure to get the company.
"Do you think that he gave me the Wen Group because he wanted to? Or perhaps because he cared about me?" Jean sneered and continued her jab, "You planned and kept on planning for twenty years to prevent me and Henry from getting close. Even though I was his child and reminded him of his wife, things turned out to be a lot different after twenty years. Twenty years time can change people, let alone circumstances.
I only returned to the Wen Group so that I could look into my mother's death. I insisted that you tell me the truth about my mother's death only after I learned about Kate from several directors of the Wen Group who my mother trusted completely. They all thought it was strange that you sent Kate away all of a sudden after my mother died.
I found Kate in the end and then I got to know that you threw away a torn dress the very same night my mother died. Kate was following you that day and you saw her. That was why you sent her away and ruined her life. I spent a lot of time thinking why your clothes were torn and then asked you with vague wordings at last.
If you weren't so guilty and scared, you would have found out that I was bluffing. But oh no, you panicked and confessed to everything, without even knowing that I wasn't telling the truth. Joy, to think that someone as clever as you could be such a fool. You killed my mother so you need to accept the punishment by the law. And Joy, it was only because you wanted to make a deal to save Shirley that you confessed to the truth, wasn't it?
You schemed for your whole life but got destroyed by your children. It's your karma. I believe you have no doubt about it. My mother was such an innocent and pure soul, and you took her husband from her, ruined her family, and then you killed her.
Joy, I hate you. I hate you so much that I want to feed you to the dogs. By God, don't you even feel an iota of guilt? Don't you have a conscience weighing on you? How could you do that to such an innocent woman? Haven't you had nightmares all these years about what you did? Don't you dream about my mother haunting you?"
"Stop it. Stop it." Joy broke down as Jean turned on her further and further. With tears all over her face, she looked up at Jean and knelt before her as she confessed, "It's my fault. It's all my fault. Do you think I'm okay with it? I'm also a woman. I killed someone for love. I didn't mean to do that. If only I had another choice! I've got my punishment now. So please, please save my daughter. No matter what you want from me, I'll cooperate with you as long as you let Shirley go."
Jean shook her head as she looked at Joy. There was a pained look in her eyes and her voice had gotten hoarse. "Joy, if I could, I would kill you right here, right now!" But I can't. I can't let my hatred for you ruin me or my life. Joy, get out. You'd better turn yourself in to the police. Or you are going to pay more dearly than you can ever imagine."
Jean pointed to the door and screamed at Joy.
"Then Shirley..." Joy was stunned by Jean's anger. She looked at Jean with fear on her pale face and then turned towards Zed, who had kept silent.
Zed saw that Jean was angry and stared at Joy without any more words. However, he couldn't help replying in a cold tone. "A deal is a deal. But you get the hell out now!"
Zed didn't want Joy to stay any more since Jean would be even more angry. She could lose her senses and end up doing something illegal.
So it was better to throw Joy out before Jean did anything to her.
Upon hearing Zed's promise, Joy was relieved slightly. She fled away from their house in a hurry before they changed their mind.
Moore walked to Jean and tapped her shoulder with soothing words. "Jean, it's all in the past now! Don't be too sad. I don't think your mother would like it if she saw you so sad. Stop crying for her Jean. You already know the truth of her death and now you can get justice for her. That is all she needs for her comfort."
Jean's tears rushed out all over her face. Every time Moore mentioned her mother, her tears ran faster.
Seeing her cry so badly, Moore didn't know what to do at the moment.
He was embarrassed and was worried that he had said something that he shouldn't have.
Zed, however, gave him a nod in an effort to tell him it was okay and then walked over to Jean. Zed couldn't help but give a sigh. "All right. Jean, stop crying now. Tears make you ugly. I know you are sad. But we can't bring your mother back to life. So you just take care of yourself and don't let us be worried. I can only allow you to cry this time. You can't cry any more in the future. If people learn that Mrs. Qi is a weeper, they will definitely mock me for having married a weeper."
"How's that comforting me?" Jean sniffed and stared at Zed with her flushed eyes. "You don't like my crying face, do you?" But I'm really sad. I had always thought that my mother died naturally. If Joy hadn't tried to kill me in the hospital last time and believed that I was going to die, she wouldn't have told me that my mother..."
"What did you say?" Upon hearing Jean's words, Zed's face darkened at once. He grabbed Jean by the arm and got anxious immediately.
"Jean, did you just say that Joy had intended to kill you in the hospital?" Moore asked with a pale face.
Only then did Jean notice that she had spit out the story now. There was no going back. Seeing that Zed and Moore were so anxious, Jean couldn't help but pause for a second and then nodded slightly.
"What happened? Tell me all the details." Seeing her nod, Zed got even more angry as a malicious look glimmered in his eyes.
'Joy, you dare lay your hands on Jean.
I'll definitely make you pay for it.'
"Um, Joy and I quarreled in the hospital the last time we were there. Then she suddenly reached out her hands and tried to choke me."
Jean didn't want to recall the memory. But as soon as she saw the two men in front of her wear that concerned look, she felt that if she didn't tell them all the details, they wouldn't let her go. So she narrated the entire story.
Zed's face darkened along with every word Jean uttered.
When he heard that it was Shirley who had broken in and saved Jean, Zed sighed with relief.
"Toby..." He called out in a steely cold voice as soon as Jean finished.
"Mr. Zed." Toby appeared instantly but he felt that there was something wrong in the room. The expression on Zed's face was making Toby uneasy.
"What order did I give you? I told you to follow Jean 24x7 and make sure that she remains safe. But Joy managed to try and choke her in the hospital. How could that happen? Where were you at the moment?" Zed asked with a freezing voice. The look on his face was even more chilling. Toby hadn't expected that Zed had found out about the incident. He knelt on his knees before Zed at once and lowered his head to confess,"I failed you and Mrs. Jean. Mr. Zed, please forgive me. You can punish me if you want."
