Chapter 425 Our Money Has Disappeared
Shirley looked at Carlos with wide eyes. Glaring at him, she asked impatiently, "What did you say to her, Carlos?"
"I have told her everything I know," Carlos replied, shrugging his shoulders. "Why? Is there anything wrong? Don't you still dare admit what you have done?" Provocatively, Carlos crossed his arms across his chest and cocked an eyebrow at Shirley. "You!" Shirley fumed steam and narrowed her eyes at Carlos as if piercing him with them. Turning pale with frustration, she was too irritated to say anything.
Jean had been staring at them and chuckled softly under her breath. 'I must carefully appreciate Shirley's superb acting skills.
Later, I may seldom see this side of her!'
Realizing that her conspiracy had been exposed, Shirley stopped pretending and turned to her men, shouting at them unpleasantly. "Come and untie me!"
Hearing Shirley's order, the men standing around her exchanged looks and turned to look at their boss, Carlos.
Shirley rolled her eyes at this, wondering why they still had to ask Carlos when she had paid for them. When Carlos nodded as permission, two of the men walked over to Shirley and untied her.
Massaging her wrists that have turned red from the bind, Shirley turned to Jean and sneered, "Wow, Jean, I didn't expect that this would be coming from you. Oh, how I underestimated you! How were you so crafty that you had made Carlos spill the beans within a relatively short amount of time? Did you pay him?"
"I don't stoop down to your level, Shirley. It is not because I am crafty, but it just simply because you are too cruel. Even God could not help but be on my side. Carlos really just personally came to me to reveal everything about your involvement on Winner's death." Jean paused for dramatic effect and eyed Shirley. "Shirley, let me ask you a question. Why on earth did you want Winner gone? What did he ever do to you? You know that he was never a threat to your status at all, so why did you kill him?"
At that very moment, Joy woke up at Jean's angry voice. She shook her head, trying to take the dizziness away, but she had understood what was going on in front of her.
All the events that happened before she lost consciousness came swirling back in her mind, anger starting to build inside of her.
She rose from the ground with difficulty, but the strong emotion inside of her didn't stop her from getting up. Seeing that Shirley was standing in front of her in one piece, she rushed towards her and madly slapped her on the face. "Why did you kill Winner? How could you, Shirley? He was your brother for God's sake! I can't believe the guts of you for taking advantage of me and using me to deceive Jean for money!
Didn't you tell me that you asked a friend to help? Who are they then? Tell me! Because this man told me personally that you had sex with him for this transaction. Is it really true?" Joy raised a hand up in disbelief and sighed exasperatedly. "Shirley, when did you become like this?"
Meanwhile, Shirley still held on her cheek that was now throbbing and red from the slap. She stared at Joy with such resentful eyes as she was being questioned by Joy this time. She bit her bottom lip before shouting loudly. "Jesus Christ, Mom! Jean had just asked me why I killed Winner, since he can't threaten my status. Even Jean is skeptical about my motives, so why can't you understand?
You will only care about me deeply in your heart when Winner died. It's as if you never realized my existence until he was gone. Without Winner, it was only me you cared about. Don't you think this reason is enough?" Shirley asked with such desperate eyes that Joy couldn't help but react in shock. "I was born a few minutes earlier than Winner, but in Dad's eyes and yours, it seems that I have the responsibility to pamper him being the first born. Oh, not just me, actually. Both of you also have spoiled Winner so much, so why does it seem like I have to pamper him too?
When you bought new toys, Winner was the first to receive. When you had something delicious, you always gave Winner first. Whatever he has left over was given to me like I'm such a pet dog instead of a daughter! When I grew up, my pocket money is always less than Winner's, and I haven't complained even once, hoping that both of you would realize how unfair you were as parents, but no, it never happened. It is you who have spoiled Winner. So, don't say that you don't understand, because you have caused him to die." After saying all the things she had been keeping to herself, Shirley burst into laughter hysterically. The jealousy that was rising inside her was shown on her face. "It's funny that only after Winner died did you only care about me, and I really feel the contentment in my heart. Do you now understand, Mom? I did all this because of you! Did you ever think that with Winner here, you could lead a happy life as you grow older?
Of course not! What else can he do but create troubles for himself and ask you to clean up after his mess? However, Mom, I'm different from him, and I hope you could look me straight in the eyes now. That Winner isn't your only child. As long as you care about me only, then I will be forever filial to you and make you be the happiest mother in the world." Shirley moved towards Joy and held her arm.
Joy shook her head and grabbed her arm away from Shirley's grasp. "No, after you killed Winner, I don't think I ever deserve happiness. I am no longer a happy mother, but a mother, who is both sad and pathetic. Hell, I even agreed to be part of your scheme to deceive Jean for money and trouble the Wen Group entirely. Most importantly, how could you expect me to care for you after you did such a horrible thing to me. You know what, Shirley, I have many regrets in my life, and you're one of them!"
As soon as Joy shouted that at Shirley's shocked face, she raised a hand out to slap Shirley's face again, but Shirley had now been prepared and immediately caught Joy's wrist.
"Do you really want to hit me? Do you want to hurt me for your useless son?" Shirley stared at Joy with a sullen but daring look.
Seeing all Shirley's actions, Joy heaved a deep sigh for all the question in her mind had finally gotten answers. All she could do now was look at Shirley in pure disgust. Jean scoffed at the scene and walked backward, holding Zed's hand.
Carlos had been standing there in impatience. He honestly didn't care about the quarrel between Shirley and Joy. All he cared about was business and the money. 'Why don't they deal with their problems later?
What's important right now is to get the money and leave! Otherwise, our hard work would have been in vain.' With these thoughts in mind, Carlos couldn't help but turn his gaze towards the suitcase filled with money. However, his eyes suddenly widened in shock.
The suitcases full of money that were originally placed a few steps away from them was now just an empty spot.
Carlos didn't believe his eyes and rubbed them in case he was just hallucinating. He glanced around the wharf but the silver suitcases were now gone. He suddenly shouted, "Oh, shit. Bastards! They fooled us! Our money has disappeared!" Hearing Carlos's words, Joy and Shirley immediately stopped arguing, stunned at the news. They both looked around as well.
The suitcases full of money had disappeared. Zed and Jean had them stowed away in a safe place while Joy and Shirley were arguing, and that the men were distracted by their strife. Now, everyone was looking at them, and both of them just responded with a smug smile. "The money certainly disappeared. Did you really think that we will give the money to you? Shirley, don't be too naive.
Despite us being half-sisters, you and I have always been hostile towards each other, so did you really expect that I cared enough for you to redeem you with a hundred million dollars? You're insane! Why do you always think highly of yourself? It's so ridiculous! You really overestimated yourself in my heart, huh?"
Jean said with a sarcastic tone, crossing her arms on her chest.
"Jean, you bitch!" Shirley was annoyed and shouted. "After hiding the money, did you think you can escape from my plan? If you don't give me the money right now and take the initiative to leave the Wen Group, you won't be allowed to leave here alive. You know what I am capable of doing." She narrowed her eyes at Jean with a glare.
Jean scoffed at her. "Shirley, you are still so naive." She looked at Shirley with a sly smile and shook her head. "Don't forget that I am not alone now."
While saying that, Jean raised her hand that was holding Zed's. "We have already figured out your plan ahead, so we have already prepared for it."
After Jean's words, several policemen rushed out of the darkness. Some of them were wearing police uniforms while others were wearing casual clothes. Toby, Gregory, and Terry quickly stood in front of Zed and Jean, protecting them and staring at Carlos and his men with serious eyes.
The policemen quickly surrounded the wharf, and most of them around Carlos and his men.
It happened so fast that they already blocked all who were potential threats before anyone could react or escape.
With a beam on her face, Jean immediately showed appreciation in her eyes.
'It is obvious that they take actions very efficiently and on time, as well.
But then, why are the policemen always the last ones to arrive in soap operas and in movies?
It seems that those soap operas and movies are deceptive and give false information just for the sake of dramatic effect.' Shrugging, Jean thought, sighing in relief.
